  • Great stuff Luke & Carole! Thanks so much for keeping the history of Old Hollywood alive!!

    Best Wishes to you both:)))

  • @alexander3699 Thank you. Alexander!

  • Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this....I can't wait to see the whole of it....

  • @poeticjustice2345 So welcome! Your entertainment is what we try to achieve! As Billy Wilder said, the only mortal sin is BORING your audience! LOL

  • @soapbxprod Billy Wilder was a wise, wise man. But, thrill, amaze and mesmerize? Yes. Bore? NEVER.

  • @poeticjustice2345 You're the Colosseum! You're the Louvre Museum! There's a terrific book by Otto Friedrich titled "City of Nets" about Hollywood in the 1940s- inside it is the story of how Billy Wilder arrived in Hollywood. When the Customs official stamped his entry visa, he said to Billy- "One thing, Mr. Wilder- just don't bore us." Probably apocryphal- since it was Wilder telling the story!

  • @soapbxprod Haha! No matter what, it's an excellent story. And a little Cole Porter goes a long, long way ;)

  • @poeticjustice2345 HAHA! You must read that book! You will not be able to put it down!

  • @soapbxprod I actually do own that book..never got around to reading it though. But will, as soon as I can.

  • This will be a great documentary, for home movies the quality of the film is amazing. Can't wait to the whole documentary. Just extraordinary

  • @bosphotoman2a Thank you SO VERY MUCH! Your comments are greatly appreciated! Semper Fi!

  • My step sister was Paul Newman's personal assistant for years...she loved Paul and Joanne and has som interesting stories. I am looking forward to the final cut! :-)

  • @TheCarole63 That is so cool! We lived in Wilton CT for a few years- just a few miles down Route 33 from Ridgefield, where Paul and Joanne lived forever. He raced Datsuns for Bob Sharp's dealership on Route 7... his cars from each previous racing season were always on display there.

  • @soapbxprod What wonderful memories of a lovely man. My stepsister, traveled with him on all his shoots and was his "go to gal" for everything. She was based in Los Angeles. One of her prized photographs is of her sitting on the set of the "Towering Inferno" between Newman, McQueen, and Holden all seriously looking over her shoulder!! FYI - She insisted he have his Levis dry cleaned and pressed professionally...after much balking - he admited he liked the way the Levis looked! :-)

  • @TheCarole63 Are you on Facebook? I have a group that you MUST join! Mid Century Los Angeles! Send me a PM and we'll friend each other and then I'll bring you in! Or did we already and I forgot?

  • @TheCarole63 Any idea why Newman looked beat up on hand & left eye? If this was '65 he would've been shooting Harper maybe? Not thinking that would have caused that...

  • @MartinCummins48 Motorcycle mishap! Think that Newman and Lauren Bacall are discussing that very thing- they probably are in script reading and pre-production, since Harper was released in late February 66?

  • Carl Laemmle lived from 1867-1939. He never got to age 90. "The Inamtes are taking over the asylm" was said in 1919 by Richard Rowland, head of Metro Pictures, on the occassion of the formation of Untied Artists by Chaplin, Pickford, Fairbanks and Griffith.

  • @44032 Very cool! Thank you! Will pass the info to Carole- maybe Laemmle took the phrase and ran with it- we knew that he had died long before- but it seemed to be an appropriate and entertaining line... anyway- it's a long way from being finished- just an offline assembly! :)

  • @soapbxprod I'm sure you'll do a good bit of fact-checking before you send out the finished product.

I still think voice immitators would sound a bit cheezy. It might be best to use a "closed caption" format for the conversations with an audio commentary describing the action.

  • @44032 Do you work in the industry?

  • @soapbxprod No just a fan of old movies.

  • @44032 If you Google or iMDB me, Luke Sacher, you will see that Carole and I really know what to do... Promise that we will do the right thing! Please look at the complete doc features here on our channel page!

  • This is SO wonderful!!! I'm loving every second of this footage--especially those times when Roddy is IN FRONT of the camera. :)

  • @nycbutterfly52 He was CUTE! And I'm straight as an arrow! My wife Martha looks a lot like Babs Stanwyck! For me- no woman ever came close to NATALIE WOOD!

  • @soapbxprod As far as I'm concerned, Roddy is as cute as it gets! I've been mad for him for nearly THIRTY (!!!) years, and he remains a big part of my life, personally and creatively. I agree, Natalie is quite beautiful!

  • Bravo!! Is there more to this doc? I've been such a fan of Dominick Dunne's book THE WAY WE LIVED THEN. I had no idea there was a doc to go with it. Can you tell me more about this amazing video?

  • @dantanasgirl Soon to be a full feature documentary! This is a rough assembly that we're using to pitch with... we've been trying to make it for eight years- looks like uploading the footage to YouTube has piqued the interest of the networks... HOORAY!

  • Who is the narrator of this piece? I know the voice, just can't quite place it!

Also, to star-spot, that is the amazing Betty Comden sitting with Lee Remick at 4:44

  • @keywslt It's actually my partner, producer/Director Carole Langer. I am her son, Luke Sacher- grandson of Abner Biberman, and grand nephew of Herbert Biberman, one of the Hollywood 10. We have been making documentaries for almost 30 years! Please look at our feature length offerings on this channel! Also- Betty Comden and her hubby Adolph Green in many of our clips!

  • @soapbxprod Sounds so familiar. Yup, checking out all of your stuff! Fantastic work!

btb: Comden & Green = writing partners. Betty Comden married Steven Kyle and Aldoph Green married to Phylis Newman

  • @keywslt Yes I know! They wrote everything- Singin' in the Rain, On the Town, Good News...

  • Yes it is! And that's Phyllis Newman, Adolph Green's wife, in the white wrap coming up the stairs in the same shot!

  • Loving this find which I stumbled across yesterday @soapbxprod, tell me, are there more of these videos to come? Really looking forward to this documentary- I can't tell you how much- good luck!!

  • @KalBackus Yes- many more! They are not cut down to selects yet (removing camera starts/stops, etc.)- Stay Tuned!

  • Amazing footage!

  • @chibakhan1 Thank you! Son to be a full feature documentary!

  • @chibakhan1 oops... SOON!

  • @chibakhan1 Don't you love Paul Newman drinking Bud with a cast on his arm? So middle class and democratic!
