  • i"m a Who purist....i hate that they put piano on this song..

  • @alsaxe1 lol...me too..i hated the 89 tour w/the horns playing on many songs that they had no business playin on...

  • @alsaxe1 then you must of hated that tommy tour of 1989!!

  • @TheTzdope i hated it w/a passion..i'm a Who purist....

  • 15 bucks to see the greatest live band ever is quite a bargain!

  • @sh139181 Some might say, the best they ever had...

  • Five people don't get to bargain!

  • zak starkey does a pretty damn good keith moon. only a handful of drummers can pull that off without sounding awful.

  • @giobigez True, Zak Starkey is a great drummer. You can see the band respects him and lets him play, he is no "filler" musician. He is a member of the band. He plays with such energy and passion. VERY few could go out there & play Who songs.

  • The best I ever had! Like thunder and lightning! Rock and roll power with the most simple and beautiful lyrics...

  • why the hell does the keyboard player play the synth line WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nope; I was wrong; you can see it, but you have to look real careful...

  • I note that they're not taping Daltrey's mic to the cable, either, anymore. And another era comes to an end... :-)

  • nice to see Zak playing with some of the best musicians in the world

  • The who sound pretty well for a bunch a old guys. Give the stones a run for their money.

  • I just went to Rog's concert last fall. HE WAS AMAZING!!! I went to warped tour and was HORRIBLY disappointed. I look forward to this spring. My generation's (pun intended) music must change (hahaha again)... LONG LIVE ROOOOOOCK! (and again here)

  • They don't make music or band like this anymore.....

  • Who's the drummer? He's no Keith Moon..

  • @classiccarz That is Zac Starkey......the son of Richard Starkey AKA Ringo Starr. Keith Moon taught him to play drums when his mum, cynthia, divorced Ringo...and Zac is an awesome drummer!!!!!

  • @ikyikyvalve CYNTHIA was JULIAN LENNON's mother. Zak's mother was MAUREEN...

  • ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hah ha ha ha ha ha ha

  • Keyboards: John "Rabbit" Bundrick

  • Roger has lost a little of his range but I saw them this last tour and they still have the musical chops, even minus John and Keith. They were awesome.

  • @toker53 I agree, Daltrey has lost a bit of range but they're still an awesome band. Probably one of the best bands in the world

  • beeteles my ass this is were it is!!!!

  • Pete's search for god.....

  • Look at Roger in this video,,, they are old and still rocking.. years from now people will worship this band,,, they are the pathway for all other rock bands follow.

  • you can not deny the Who's place in rock history. They rock, to argue anthing otherwise is nonsense.

  • great song....

  • The Beatles,The Stones were good bands however they did not change music. They were good pop rock. The Who on the other hand went outside of 2 part harmony and and a 4 4 beat with 3 cords. They grab you by the freakin ears and screamed and you liked it.Keep it coming Pete and Roger

  • @savagegargoyle boo, the beatles didn't change music my asshole.

  • Zak's star does not fade in shadow of his fathers star, he has true talent

  • jajajajajajaja zak deberia de ser el gran baterista y no su padre

  • Starkey is awesome. The rest need not be spoken of . but what the hell. Timeless

  • I first saw the Who in 1973, my first year in university. Me and my friend Paul paid $15.00 scalper tickets. The seats were way way up there. We were trying to get down to the main main bowl. On my way down, I met a girl, who gave my first toke of weed. We never got down to the main bowl but it was the best concert I ever went to.

  • @mettawas i thought you were gonna say that the hit of weed led you to a life of drugs all of which took place at a who show!!

  • Along with Zep and the Beatles - the only 3 bands that when you think of them you think of the WHOLE BAND...and not just one or two guys. Talent gushing out of every corner of the stage.

  • thats becuse all three are like Super Bands without being superbands all 12 are GODS and very well known

  • You're forgetting Rush.

  • hmm, check out the Red Hot chili Peppers, all 4 are great

  • FLOYD and the STONES? HELLO?

  • No one can touch the Who in their prime with Entwhistle and Moon-not Zeppelin nor the Beatles. Period.

  • what about Wham?

  • this was awesome!

i discovered the who in 79 when i was 13.a friend gave me a beta copy of the kids are alright.since then no other band has done it for me like these guys! they are the best and i must also say that seeing them 7 shows between 81 -99 zak is a damn fine drummer! the best, since km

    thx 4 posting! 5/5

  • Simply put----they rock! Greatest group ever. Wish I could ahve been there for this show. RIP John and Keith

  • RIP Keith

    RIP John

    ) ,:

  • The Who`s original recording of this song is a masterpiece. None of their live performances of this song ever comes close to the recording....

  • (whyy,,,oh arent we a musixc expert ! Yea like Pete and the Who ever wanted to do the same song the same way twice You are a moron !! that live performance was nothing short of brilliant . Yes Whos next captures a sound uniqely timeless . and yes this performance is sans Keith Moon . However , great and tight ! long live the masterpeice ``Whos Next``.

  • seconded

  • It also may be due to the fact that they are rather skilled. Unlike today's modern day artists...like Kanye West.

  • LOL NICE!!! SO TRUE SO TRUE!

  • You know why they are so good live? Their manager was a greedy bastard and forced them to do many live performances to make money. They just got good at it over time.

  • they are good in live shows cause ,despite the modern attitude, they were and are very good musician, a characteristic that unfortunately today is missing in almost all famous actual "musicians"

  • Well, that's not a good reason. There are some musicians who give great live shows, and others who just don't. I mean, better music makes a better show, but you need showmanship, bravado, which they had tons of.

  • This is outlined in the song "Success Story" on The who by numbers :)

  • This is my favorite Who song next to Go to the Mirror.

    I absolutely love this song.

  • I mean people mightsay matter of opinion

Most musicians and crictics say the WHOlive at leeds album is the best live albumever made in rock'roll.

  • Who's Next is one of the greatest albuns ever, The Who is the best band ever.

    This is the Classic Rock'n'Roll.

  • Agreed 100%.No better live band on the planet.Who's next is probraly my favorite album besides Tommy.

  • they are aweosme. wot about pink floyd thou?

  • Pink floyd is top 3 bands in the world. They put on a great concert i saw them in the low 70s.The album dark side of the moon was #1 for months in the states.

  • did u see them live in the 70's? Wow man thats amazing. lucky you.

  • Yes sir saw Zepp; The Who,pink floyd, blacksabbath,Yes,queen, lynard skynard and more that was low 70s.Of all i have seen nobody touches The Who live

    to this day.

  • oh man that is amazing im pretty jellous right now. Iam only 20 so no chance for me to see any of them live

  • Hello wholive, I heard Led Zeppelin really were not that good on stage, what did you think?

  • no there overrated live. led zeppelin has just been radioized so much so the younger generation get buy there albums, apperal, etc.Zepp great in the studio but live the Who are #1 and pink floyd.

  • Remember the big farewell concert in 1983?

  • the who #1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • So that's the drummer from Oasis eh?

  • No anymore my friend. Believe he saw the errors of his way!!!

  • @ finisher21799

yr sure? omg have to listen to this song before I die... GREAT MUSIC AS ALWAYS LOVE THE WHO! lol :-D oh btw forgot yr message finisher... sorry...

  • I agree, an excellent song that amazibgly is 5th or 6th best on the album. It's shame its meaning has been lost and used in car commercials.

  • from Who's next, this fantastic album of 1971

  • I love the who

  • everyone loves the who

  • topim se kad kaze i call that a bargain the best i ever had ..topim se na taj naglasak i taj GLAS vrhunski..beautiful

  • Truly, very good.

  • man i saw the who in auburn hills on there last tour and they did not play this song i was pissed its my favorite but it was an awesome show

  • I dont think they needed to "replace". they just needed someone who could hold his place wihtout bringing shame to their name. its not that anybody's a bad drummer, you just dont try to improve on moon. you know?

  • i look and no one credits John Entwistle for his thunderous base playing, does any body know that he created the whole rock opera who r u

  • Who Are You is not a rock opera.....

  • sorry about that, it's a never completed it was just some soongs wer gonna be in one but they never made it

  • Comment removed

  • No, your thinking of the Who's Next album, not Who Are You. It was originally called Lifehouse. Bargain is apart of Whos Next though, you are just getting Whos Next and Who Are You confused. Also letting you know, Pete was the one who wrote all the songs.

  • i read it some where that it was for who are you and also, pete wrote all the lyrics

  • Watch "Classic Albums: Who's Next". That'll give u the info u need. Or you know. Wikipedia :)

  • while it is not a rock opera whos next contains offcuts from their disbanded rock opera - lifehouse, which was a follw up to tommy. Most of the tracks appear on whos next, odds n sodds, hooligans and who by numbers

  • i love this band

they are so old now though

    sad face :(

  • It's ok. Rock and Roll never forgets. This was the best rock band ever. Period.

  • "Who´s Next" is the best Who-album... It´s a string of masterpieces from beginning to end - I´m singing along every time I hear it...! love to listen to it like in the old days when you had to listen to the songs from beginning to end (LPs y´know all children out there - large black discs in paper sleeves...?!) although I only own it on CD... :-P you can´t and shouldn´t shuffle a masterpiece....

  • Who's Next is the best rock album ever released. Pure thunder from Baba O Reilly to Won't Get Fooled Again. Could be released today and it would only rival itself.

  • Gosh Roger can sing. Gosh I wish Moon was still alive. No one can play that song like him.

  • Zak is a good replacement. not the same, but good enough

  • There not The Who without Kieth Moon

  • Wheres Roger Daltry in the tabs.

  • 'who's next' is a masterpiece. maybe the most under appreciated album that everyone knows and loves...ever.

  • of all the big british groups of the first wave, the who were the ones mostly on the fringe. the beatles, stones...there was just too much talent going on. and their songs didn't 'fit' on commercial pop a.m. radio-which is all there was.

  • I saw them in 2007. ¿Zak? He did a good job very close to the master loon the moon.

  • Oh I envy you!

  • Comment removed

  • This is one of my favourite who-songs... zak really isn´t bad at all but he´s different... not a genious... like our favourite drummer of all time...

and yes paul mccartney is not the best bass-player on Earth... but probably one of the best songwriters... after Pete of course...! ha ha... you can´t excel in everything...

  • Gotta love the post-moonie intro-fill

  • THANK you for posting this! It's one of the best live Who performances (post-Moonie) I've ever "had." Zack (aka Ringo Jr) is for sure the best replacement for Keith, in terms of style and feel...SiPhi certainly had chops that Moon could never cut, even if he practiced them for six months. But Keith was an original, and Simon more of a technician, a scientist. Kenny Jones was a friend from Faces, a buddy band, much too reserved. Saw Zack's first gig, "Quadrophenia" in NYC, 96: extraordinary~jk

  • Zak was the personal student of keith, so he is the perfect replacement for the who.

  • hmmm, this is really good. The who without keith moon was always differnt. But for some reason i didnt like that kenny jones dude. i hated him. But Zak Starkey..yea he's okay. atleast they didnt die out.

  • I don't dislike Kenny Jones, he just was'nt Moon and nor was he trying to be. His work with the Faces was great.

  • kieth was great! but, he would have never been able to keep up his lifestyle. he was bloated and sick the last year of his life. and a rotten bastard to his kids and wife. he once took 15 qualudes at one time ,its reported. he was a maniac on course for what he got. the ones who made out of that period except maybe kieth richard . got over the drugs and cleaned up. kieth moon would have never been able to do that. sadly

  • The Who are the most influential rock band from all time. Ask Jimmy Paige...

  • I prefer Pete singing this song, Roger may be great, but Pete does a better job.

There's a video of late Pete Townshend singing bargain on YouTube, have a look at it

  • This song emerged from the influence that the Indian Avatar Meher Baba had on Pete T. The "You" refered to in the lyrics is not the separate, Judeo-Christian "Father-God" who dwells "in heavan", but the Immediate Presence, inwardly felt and outwardly sung, by the great Daltry, of the One Supreme Consciousness that is Love - for which everyone would gladly "lose" everything. But notice the strange twist in lyrics, which only the briiliant Who could conjure (:- Thanks for this great upload.

  • I had read that Pete wrote this after Meher Baba had died or quit being his spiritual adviser or whatever, and he wrote this song as like a coming to peace with Christ because all of his friends were failing him. the part of pay n e price to win you, naked stoned and stabbed is obviously about the passion. and the eternal life in heaven is the bargain... Idk?? I read that once in a guitar player issue like in Sept of 2000

  • Baba O'Reily is a pseudonym for Meher Baba. Townsend created a Meher Baba library with his own funds in England. He loved Baba. He would never mass market Him, the way the Christians sell and trade Jesus. Your statement is incorrect, like the supposed death bed confession of Darwin and his conversion to Christianity - that was a deliberate lie generated by Christians. Townsend is a free-thinker with magnificent muscical talents & one of the very best rock guitarists in modern history.

  • very nice song!!!

  • Thanks for this upload-they are so great, never got the 'supergroup' media as others have, but perhaps that's why they've lasted so long! Love them-glad to see that Roger Daltry's voice & talents are amazing.

  • I call that a bargain

  • Such an underated song!

This is truly one of the greatest rock songs ever written.

It's got everything- explosive, but with a ballad refrain, perfect lyrics, a mysterious synth. Just perfect rock composistion.

I'm amazed at how seldom it shows up on lists of best rock songs.

  • i completaly agree when i first baught who's next and when this song came on i was surprized that i never heard it befor it's great

  • Guess we could say 'Zac has as much skill as Keith' since he could imitate every Keith's fill, but he's not as crazy and irresponsible (in a good way) as Keith.

  • im a zak fan as well but NO ONE has the skill moonie did. simon philips i believe got the closest however.

  • It's quite hard to judge who is better.

Comapring keith to anyone is like comparing john entwistle, they were so unique that they created different leagues reserved only for them.

There is no doubt that entwistle was not only technically The Best, but keiths technique wasn't as impressive as for example bonham or peart, however in my opinion non of them, or even nobody has ever been such lyrical and unrepetitous.

You can't just get bored of listening to keith because of his unpredictability

  • Oasis said it best when they said Keith Moon was the Hendrix of the drums. I think thats right on cuz Hendrix is not as technical as a lot of people but its the ATTITUDE and the ferocity of his playing that makes me consider Moon the BEST ever.

No doubt Entwistle was the best. Chris Squire was sick wit it too, but they never had the killer rock singles that The Who did. The Who were the best HARD rock band EVER!!

  • rebelskull 18. you may like keith best. but he's only like hendrix because he would get fucked out of his mind before every show. only does he compare to hendrix alone in that aspect. Hendrix origionated the shred, distortion, lefty playing, blues rock. Keith origionated no technique to speak of. he had no signature move like the bonzo tripulets or the peart quad quarter note tripulets *i.e Tom Sawyer Second solo* Keith was good on the albums but cant even touch the legends live

  • I once heard Moon playing live above a train station (Boston Garden) and thought a locomotive got loose & crashed through the building. Listen to the denoument of 5:15 (on record) and think "REAL".

I've heard a live bootleg or two which defies human capacity (all three of these instrumentalists) to play these particular instruments.

Zak does a great job here but misses the sharp crescendo snare ring shots & cymbal crashes Moon has amid the drum ferocities in this MASTERPIECE.

  • I don't know about that granted u are right about him not having a unique technique I honestly and truly believe that the who would have never risen to the succes they had or have now without kieth moons playing style although not unique he was perfect for the music towsend wrote and he played in sync with the vocals not the bass today that may not be uncommon but back then that was revolutionary. And i diagree when u say he wasn't one of the greatest live he was prob one of the greatest live.

  • what about neil peart and john bonham you fuckheads

  • oh nvm you actually did mention them

  • mccartney can not play with them ha ha, enthwistle was another level, if paul plays with them he makes fool himself

  • McCartney and Townshend played together in 70's and Ringo played in a Keith Moon´s album in 70's too. They´re friends.

Pete and Sean Lennon played together in a pub last year.

  • raduzaxx is right

    entwistle would kill paul mccartney

not that i dont like him they are both really cool

entwistle is just the best. period.

  • Now all they need is McCartney on the bass! I wonder if Ringo can do it like his kid? The WhoBeats! You can tell Zak digs it! Kicks ass! Thattaboy!

  • ringo is actually pretty bad at the drums lol...i doubt he could...paul even said one time in an interview he's not even the best drummer in the beatles

  • Well, let´s say... Close to Keith.

  • man i love this song, you're wright, this man can do things the same as keith moon

  • Smokin' performance...hard to say w/o Moonie's magnificent orig. One of the best live rock/pop performance songs ever for those who were there early 70s. The rest of you cankeep with your talk.

  • im sorry, but it has to be siad, im a big who fan, but they looked like fools in the 80's and on, but the songs were great all the time, go figure

  • AMO-VOS :D

  • The Who will never die and never will

  • ftw

  • Super upload...love this song and the WHo..unsung heros - especially Roger Daltrey! Post more pls.

  • Oh, and yes I think Zak is the best replacement they ever managed to find for moonie, But then again he was taught by moon himself as a young lad and i think the influence is obvious, I never started enjoying The Who again until he turned up, Now the magic is back again!

  • I agree this is a great live performance. I was lucky enough to get this whole show on DVD off ebay for $0.99 It's from 2000 at the royal albert hall, One of the best Who DVD's I've got!

  • zak strakey is better on OASIS

  • You mean Zak Starkey? No way in hell. He's actually able to fill Moonie's shoes. Go see them on tour, it'll change your mind.

  • Thank you!!!

  • Incredible. One of the rare live performances of "Bargain", one of my favorite tracks from "Who´s Next". This performance equals the quality of The Who´s "Live At Leeds". Thanks for sharing.

  • No doubt this video is fantastic, and Bargain is one of my favorite Who songs, but still to say it "equals" the quality of Live at Leeds is, I think, way off. No offense to Zak or Kenny, but I don't think the Who will ever reach the levels of sound they had when Kieth Moon was alive.
