  • Jabiru make shit box engines. Fucken hopeless.

  • Jabiru engines have experienced a range of issues as described here. However all Jab engine problems can be solved by installing Liquid Cooled Heads from Rotec Engineering of Mordialloc, Victoria, Australia. The Rotec LCH weighs about the same as the air-cooled heads so that overall installation weight is about the same with water, pump etc. With Rotec LCH installed it is unlikely that any re-torquing will be required and the engine will run more quietly. I am not associated with Rotec.

  • Is it true you have to re-tension the heads every 15 hours?

  • @Avatar230594 No. You do need to re-tension them at set intervals I would have to look at my manual again for exact times, but I believe every 50hours or so.

  • it sounds like a ring seating in the top and bottem off the piston land. so if the noise is coming from no5 cly and no6 cly thay are generaly the two hottest cly i would say you have got some hot spots in these clys remove hone and while you have got the head off seat the valves in reasemble and put baffle set from sonex on it thay work. you can trim baffle to chang rear cly temp to suite ps rebuilt x 3 3300 jabiru

  • check your valves...................

  • any updates?

  • @MetaView7 look at the comment 2 weeks ago. No more issues!

  • @kansasflying ... thanks. It is good to know the engine is working well.

  • Before buying my Jab2200 (13500$ comming 25000km from my home) everithing has to be clear. I definitelly appreciate the feedback.

  • Did you find out what the problem is? I hope you solved it easily! For us it would be really intresting to know what happened at that Jabi

  • @TheFlyhard We honed the cylinder and replaced the piston. The piston had scuff marks. It seemed to me the rings were not in there like they should have been. Regardless, I now have 93 hours on the engine without any other problems.

  • I liked Jabiru engines up until now. Let us know what the problem is. Good luck.

  • That sounds horribly like a broken conrod. I think as the crankshaft turns it's sliding off the wall of the piston or cylinder and falling onto the side of the cylinder wall. Whatever it is you're definitely grounded and need to pull the cylinder head to know for sure.

Sounds expensive, but I hope it isn't for your sake and turns out to be minor. Good luck.

  • I will not even start this engine again until I know what it is... let alone FLY. It still feels like just a BAD dream.

  • Whoa whoa whoa! Hey Michael, when I turn my prop I get a really tough resistance and an air HISS - air being very tightly compressed. But other than that, dead silence.

Hmmm - I would have JABIRU USA and JABIRU Australia listen and look at this You-Tube Video. The video and sound quality is good. Maybe pull the cylinder head and take more video and have them inspect it WITHOUT shipping it to them first - it may be nothing!!! But - You don't HAVE TO fly, you DO need peace of mind on this.
