This looks like the choreography test video for Game of Death. The guy in black being a Bruce Lee's double. Master WSL was supposed to have a scene in the pagoda segment. You can clearly see WSL was smiling and looked back once for a comment from the filmmaker, prob Bruce himself.

Regardless of whether this is serious or not, the WC 'master' was caught several times by what can only be described as a very poor boxer. Even from this short piece one can see how ineffective wing chun footwork is against the mobile footwork of boxers, kickboxers, mma stylist etc. Wing chun works well if your opponents feet are nailed to the floor. Mobility destroys nearly all WC trapping techniques and the square on vertical fist punches only serve to reduce your striking range and mobility.

You've got to be kidding me. No one can possibly be this stupid to post what is obviously screen test footage of WSL and claim it is some sort of real fight. Sounds dubbed over punches that don't touch, WSL at the end taking a fake 'movie punch' from Bruce.

The reason it's best not to test it is that fighting isn't something to take lightly, sad but true, and not all fights are about proving something or boosting a starved ego. "Not taking the bait" means they could have done some dangerous things you can't really do in sparring. Ving Tsun wasn't born out of brawling, it was born out of war.

You are watching a clip of them just playing around from what I can see. I think it's rather easy to take clips out of their context and then based upon ignorance assume the worst. You can take some train'g videos, someone will demonstrate something the wrong way as a lesson, but if it's edited so you only see the purposeful mistakes, you'll assume the worst.
There is taining called Chi Sao which develops contact reflexes; it's amazing for developing automatic responses, but it takes long time to perfect. It's not actually sparring, but you are trying to practice feeling out one anothers forces so you don't fight force with force and use the momentum provided to your limb against your opponent. It's friendly training which has great benefits.

this was shot in the 70's on a cinema camera. so my guess is that it was test footage for a Bruce Lee movie.

Even from this short piece one can see how ineffective wing chun footwork is against the mobile footwork of boxers, kickboxers, mma stylist etc. Wing chun works well if your opponents feet are nailed to the floor. Mobility destroys nearly all WC trapping techniques and the square on vertical fist punches only serve to reduce your striking range and mobility.

You've got to be kidding me. No one can possibly be this stupid to post what is obviously screen test footage of WSL and claim it is some sort of real fight. Sounds dubbed over punches that don't touch, WSL at the end taking a fake 'movie punch' from Bruce.
There's also a longer version of this footage that makes it perfectly clear that this is not a real fight.
If you want to feel good putting down another system at least get some honest sparring footage.

This is for one of Bruce Lee's films. The punch at the end of this video was from Bruce Lee. Wing Chun is not meant for sparring, it's meant to take someone out in a matter of seconds. That's why when ever you see a real Wing Chun guy "spar", they hold themselves back from doing real WC. Sparring is like a game. Real fighting is not.

no, actually vt is not designed for arena combat. mma fighters train for specific feats as (real) ving tsun is a method for (as part of the culture that stems from its usage) quick and subtle movements to nuetralize a foe who is suprised. i apologize for the above video and any other video that exists on y.t. they are not good demos and i dont blame you for your biased opinion. especially when talking to people who claim to be spokesmen for the style when they are arrogant, mislead,and weak.

I agree it doesn't look great but this is not even sparring, it's playing to the camera. And yes he looks skinny because he is, he weighed a little over 100 pounds (Bruce himself was 130). This was Bruce Lee's teacher in Wing Chun and Bruce repected this guy as a great fighter. Bruce was a no nonsense kind of guy and if this guy was crap Bruce would have said so.

It's master Wong sparring lightly with a movie extra. Of course he's not hitting hard, only tapping him. Wong struck him (softly) at 0:03 seconds. If that was for real Wong could have struck him in the throat within 3 seconds. And Wong Shun Leung was a champion bare knuckle boxer, he studied western boxing, was master at wing chun and trained in karate. He knew his wing chun & combat application. I heard Wong defeated a 6' 250lb russian boxer called Giko in a challenge match.

The reason it's best not to test it is that fighting isn't something to take lightly, sad but true, and not all fights are about proving something or boosting a starved ego. "Not taking the bait" means they could have done some dangerous things you can't really do in sparring. Ving Tsun wasn't born out of brawling, it was born out of war.

You are watching a clip of them just playing around from what I can see. I think it's rather easy to take clips out of their context and then based upon ignorance assume the worst. You can take some train'g videos, someone will demonstrate something the wrong way as a lesson, but if it's edited so you only see the purposeful mistakes, you'll assume the worst.

There is taining called Chi Sao which develops contact reflexes; it's amazing for developing automatic responses, but it takes long time to perfect. It's not actually sparring, but you are trying to practice feeling out one anothers forces so you don't fight force with force and use the momentum provided to your limb against your opponent. It's friendly training which has great benefits.
