The banjo/guitar tune was played by Eddie Hughes and John Walsh of the Liverpool Irish band Cream of the Barley (see the film credits). Cream of the Barley have a MySpace page with photos. The tune was called "The Masons Apron" a Scottish reel. It was recorded the night before filming at BBC Radio Merseyside and mimed by the two leads on the following day. The tune was recorded in one take.
I love this film, I used to have in on DVD, bought it off eBay. Can't believe it's been so long since it was shown on tv. I used to fancy con :-) & I'm sure I have the soundtrack to it somewhere, Tried getting the soundtrack from iTunes but no such luck. Thanxs for posting this, I love it x x x
Bernie meets the girls just outside St. George's Hall. You can see them going along the bridge towards where Marks and Spencers is. It all looks really different nowadays, but M and S is still where it's always been.
The street where Dave lives and the lads are carrying him out of is on Bannerman Street in Wavertree. I know cos my sister used to live there. The field where they're playing footie is the playing field right opposite.
This film is absolute CLASS! Can never see too much of it. Only got it on VHS tho n i really would like it on DVD. Will need to keep my eye open now lol,
I am a massive fan of this film i want to go to Liverpool especially to see the filming locations, anyone have any info as to where they are? i know Casa was the restaurant scene and the Locarno Ballroom and Krazy Kitchen, any info greatly appreciated
I was in this film as were several people i know, im on the first bike that passes the van at around 3 mins into the credits at the beginning. Brings back great memories and hard to believe it was 20 years ago
i forgot to mention the idea was to do a parody of easyrider over the runcorn bridge apparently with the van there too and on the day they couldnt fly the helicopter because of bad weather
Thank you so much for the info, this is really interesting to know, so was this scene still filmes in Runcorn as planned? so how did you manage to get to be an extra in this? yeh i know 20 years where has it all gone eh?!lol
Do you pursue the acting career after doing this then?
The Casa Italia is the Italian restaurant, its still open and looks exactly the same. The outside of the club where they go to meet Eddie is/was a post office by Anfield but the inside was a parish club in toxteth. Think the outside of Locarno is now a club called the Krazyhouse but I'm not 100% on that..... The Indian is still there too thats in Garston.
Steve Woolley and Nik Powell - Palace pictures / BBC films/Formost Films.... there are hundreds of people out there wanting this film on DVD... get your act together!!!
This first scene was filmed at the back of Earle Activity Centre (or "the rec" as it was known at the time.) The centre was used as a base for the production team whilst filming. It has since closed and unfortunately burned down about 10 years ago. I am the kid who said "he's 10!" my dad ran the rec for years after it was set up by my grandad in the 60s. Thanks to the poster who put this up, it brings back fond memories. Martin.
Yes excellent film got it on vhs and unsucessfully transferred it to dvd so if anyone can supply a half decent dvd copy I'd be well pleased.Obviously vhs is dead now !
The soundtrack is just called Dancin Thru The Dark and has all the music from the film on it, i bought mine from Ebay but i had to pay about £25.00 for it, well worth every penny, if you can get hold of a copy i recommend it!
As far as i know the dvd only came out in america but there is someone on ebay whos converting his vhs to dvd for £30+ my vid of the film died years ago from over use. Amazing film.
the bloke in the blue check shirt dancin them two playin ! DELIVERANCE ! brilliant screen play

Does anyone know where the scenes are filmed:
With the pub where Willy Russell appeared?
When the girls meet and Bernie turns up late?
Where the lads are playing football?
sorry to sound addicted (as i am) but when i come over to Liverpool shortly i want to see as many of the locations as possible.
Many thanks

Hi Martin
How lucky was you to have appeared in this film? have you been doing acting since?
So was the location you filmed at Picton Medical & Childrens Centre as it is now?
So was it because your dad and grandad had ran and set the rec up that you managed to get involved in a part in the film?
How long did it take to film that scene?
Sorry for all the questions!lol
