saw this on usa networks night flight back in 1983 when i was a kid. it bugged me out how humanoids were pets. pink floyd should have been in the sound track.
I like 4:15 - 4:44....The Machine buids and builds in intensity and then all of a sudden-Off....its a kind of emotional drop like in "CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY" when the creepy boat ride abruptly ends. Fantastic Planet rules.
...a planet that has an animal with a beak shaped like a cage in which it shakes birds to death, not for food but for *laughs* is probably best avoided.
Just found out this film existed, i stumbled upon the broadcast after sitting on my remote & switching station. the best part for me was the music....good story & nicely animated too
Question if these lifeforms had the ability to form collars out of thin air, what need would they have of such objects like the headset used to educate the girl? Could this collar producing Machine not simply transfer the information without a device?
@SCORNDOGGMELACH your speaking of two different thing: 1. matter integration and learned - aquired knowledge. your assumption is similar to "we can produce airplanes so shouldnt we be able to fly by our own will without an aircraft.."
Brilliant movie, i loved it since i was 11 back in 92 when i rented it on video and it blew me away as i even bought a copy of it on video as a teen.
Anyone thinks this is the Avatar of the 70s? in fact this is one of Cameron's favorite animated movies and he borrowed some parts of this for his new movie.
I saw this a long time ago. This movie always makes me feel very strange and it is disturbing, yet intriguing at the same time. A very thought provoking film to say the least. Ty very much for taking the time and effort to upload and share.
I found out about this movie because some person put up a scene from this movie, it was something that madlib sampled. ever since then i have been in love with this movie and science fiction.
The book this movie is loosely based on is good too, I think anyone who likes this movie should check out the book too, it's recently been translated from French into English.
One of my favorite movies! Thanks for sharing this brilliant and highly underrated masterpiece. If anybody remembers the USA network's show "nightflight", back in the mid to late 80's, it was aired on that show. This is very much like real life, only the highly intelligent ones are more likely to be the repressed "oms" and vice-versa.
It's an odd idea to think that we treat smaller things as pets when one day something else larger may one day use US as pets. Who knows if it will stop there/ Perhaps that giant race will be kept as pets by an even larger race, and so on...
@ytrewqasfd Yeah. I saw this at an art movie theater when I was six, and it had a profound effect on my psyche. Freaked me right out for years. However, I now think it's fantastic. There should be more animation like this, in the style of Metal Huerlant..
I am speechless. I was searching for surrealistic horrors and found this, this is so freaking psychedelic, I just love it. It does make sense and makes me wonder what if humans wouldnt be in this possition they are now. fantastic movie!
geeez that was hard to find!!! iknew id seen pictures of it in a book i have about animation!! then i had to find the correct title (theres 3 savage planet, fantastic planet ---the 3rd in french)
This is terrifying yet intriguing.

What I love about this video is that when it starts it really feels like you've suddenly landed on an alien planet.
Mangalaiii 7 months ago
The only design error is that those aliens have no eyebrows making it difficult to determin expression.
TheCharacterActor 8 months ago
@TheCharacterActor Personally, I think the lack of eyebrows adds to their eerie and cruel nature.
gaatakek 8 months ago
@TheCharacterActor I think that's the point. It makes it hard to identify with them, adding to the alien feeling.
