i fished herring there in the early 80's i liked unalakleet there is some good gold prospecting there too, my father in law worked on the Dew line radar defense stations there is an abandoned one on top of the hill by the airport.
the airforce brought in C130 aircraft and flew thousands of tons of contaminated dirt from the radar station

I liked Unalakleet. I was the Building Inspector on the construction of the High School back in 1976.
