  • GREAT VIDEO! I have a scar on my left knuckle from the first time I shot a semi.

Thumb vs slide; thumb lost. I sure did miss that piece of meat.

  • Hey Hickok I was just curious as to which Talon Grip you were using, the rubber or granulate? I'm going to be picking up a Glock 27 for concealed carry in the near future and figured I would try out the Talon Grips since you are so pleased with them, and talk about them often. I've shot my buddies 27 multiple times and realized I might want something to help me grip it better, but wasn't necessarily too excited about cutting and placing skateboard grip tape on my new firearm =p Thanks

  • Mr. Hickok45, what kind of holster are you using in your Shooting Techniques Part 2 (Grip) video?

  • how long do the talon grips last before you have to replace them? thx

  • put it sidewides - KILL SHOT! and let the casing hit you in da head...now thats gangsta!

  • what kind of holster is that?

  • excellent video

  • can someone help me with muzzle rise..im a new shooter and when i shoot the muzzle rises up pretty good

  • @JUKEBOXX1990 ad a compernsater or ported barrel. it will reduce muzzle jump pretty good.

  • @MegaPredator1985 good idea but i thnink i just need more pratice..

  • Thxs for putting these out ;)

  • that 1911 is so nice

  • i would have liked it if you talked a bit about revolvers

  • Thanks for your videos, very informative. One question that you didn't seem to cover in these shooting techniques videos.

Do you use the pad of your trigger finger or the crotch of the first knuckle to pull the trigger? Or does it have more to do with the fit and size of the handguns grip? Should this be a consideration in choice of weapon for every day carry?

I have big hands and use the crotch, whereas my wife has small hands and tends to use the pad of her trigger finger.

  • Hello Hickok! First off thank you so much for your awesome vids! Just a question. I am fairly new with firearms but I see you mention talon grips a lot. I am sure there are many other kinds of grips, but my question is; How important is it to have an aftermarket grip on your gun? I have the Glock 19 and like the grip just the way it is. Will it improve your shooting somehow? Sorry for the dumb question. Thanks!

  • would you suggest buying a beaver tail for my glock?

  • I was lucky enough to shoot big matches in the late 80's to mid 90's on D.O.E.'s dollar.I met leatham,Plaxco,Barnhart. And my best friend Doug Evancic.Of all those "Jerry The Burner Barnart" was the most amazing.Absolutely the fastest auto shooter on the planet.Side note, I beat Doug Evancic once .

  • Hickock!!!

Is there any chanse, sombody in the states sell the talon grips an ships worlwide?

I really want that grip tape and theres nobody near selling it (Norway)

  • Who else had their gun out attempting this while watching him? ;-)

  • jimmie johnson 5 time champion, gonna win at the brickyard tomorrow.

  • 4:48 The birds!!!

  • good job making this video, I'm heading to shooting range to try your tips ;)

  • @Hickok45 I also wanted to mention that in the Olympics and in many sports, they train in a similar way as the aforementioned ATM, where an athlete literally and intensely visualizes every single movement and action in the mind, yet not physically doing it, as an advanced form of training. In short, it boils down to the harmony of mind and body (muscle, nerves, tendons and bones), where you train your brain to build neurological associations/connections with various muscular functions.

  • Howdy hickok45, your points made about grip and handling of the gun seem right on, though I'm not at all a shooter myself. Though a completely different craft, you will find it compelling the similarities in piano playing. Some schools of piano actually go deep into the biology of it even - showing that even your hips are involved in the craft. One concept you may too find interesting is "awareness through motion/movement (ATM)" where one develops self-awareness of the body. Powerful stuff.

  • Any tips on griping a revolver? Or is it basically the same grip?

  • I'm left handed and I shoot weaver style left handed, but with my feet the right-handed way...

  • i may be 15 and may be from greece but your videos helped me A LOT!Also you convinced my father to buy a glock(wich is good)

  • you flinch on the first shot/trigger squeeze using the G27..you got a click :-)

Good video though... I have the xdm 3.8 chambered in 9mm, full grip. what are your impressions of this gun.??

  • Thank you for the excellent video. Your advice is truly appreciated and I have learned a great deal from you. Keep up the good work.

  • Which holster are you using here. I've found that my holster selection has been much more difficult that the gun selection. I ended up buying an "Alabama Holster" made of Kydex in an OWB model. I think I would eventually like to purchase an IWB model but I want on that wont collapse after the gun has been drawn.

  • Thanks, Hickok, once again for another informative and entertaining video. I now own a Glock 30, in case I hadn't mentioned, and having shot it, I absolutely love it!

I'm now working on my grip and getting my targeting honed a bit better. Even did a vid of it! Now all I need to do is figure out a place where I can shoot without a range fee. Bullets are already expensive enough!

    Thanks again!

  • What type of holster are you using?

  • @haydeninsane It is a Galco Royal Guard

  • do you pick up the unused cartridges that you eject?

  • Hickok, I just want to thank you for introducing me to the Talon Grips this past summer. I purchased a G27 (which I LOVE) for EDC and immediately got a talon grip, it being a smaller gun and all. I love it. It rubbed my side raw a little bit, but I sanded it down and have gotten used to it. You're right about one-handed shooting being a breeze. The grip is small (good for Glock's big grips) yet provideds a lot of friction which is perfect. Thanks for sharing your wisdom with us all!

  • @bigosbro21 , Thanks. Yeah, you can see why I tailor them to so many of the other guns I shoot, such as the M&P, the Desert Eagle, etc. I'm spoiled by them. Once you're able to get a fantastic grip on a gun, it's hard to go back to a mediocre one.

  • There are tons of gun nuts and ex military doing shooting vids out there but none I prefer to hickok. This old man is who all of us want to be at his age.

  • Hey Hickok, I think your channel rocks. I was just wondering what kind of holster you have in this Shooting Techniques video series for your Glock 19. It appears to be a IWB holster, I was just curious as to the make and model. Thanks!

  • @JFspookyonrye Galco Royal Guard

  • Great vid, thanks for the info.

  • Wow, thanks again for your help. I have been putting my finger up on the trigger guard and now I am trying to get myself out of the habit. Took me a few mags but getting much tighter groups now. Yes still all over but it is a step in the right direction. I am a huge fan of yours no matter what video your doing I seem to pick something up from it. Thanks again for the help and look forward to many more videos.

  • RESPECT grandpa

  • hello hickock45 i like a lot your videos and i have 2 questions, what do you think about the glock 25 on .380 acp? i live in mexico and thats the top we can own at home, my question is because looking on the net i see that gun is not on sell in USA, why? is there something wrong with it?

and for last, if i buy the glock 25 on .380 acp i can buy the accesories for make it 9mm, am i wrong? its almost the same than the glock 19 right?

  • Hickok, I skipped through to see if you used a revolver at any point so I did not listen to the entire video. Sorry if you addressed this already. I have a Ruger SP101 357 w/ 2.25" barrel. Is there a different grip for a revolver? Is there a "revolver grip" vid already in your library? Thanks a million brother!

  • Hi there...Can you show how to grip and shoot revolvers properly? Thanks

  • IMHO squeezing pinky would make gun going up and down. Basically you'd be shooting below the aiming point every time you pull a trigger. And you absolutely right the two fingers in the middle provide the best grip

  • Hey Hickok... absolutely love your videos. I've been looking at glocks for a long while now and finally decided to buy a G19. The G17 felt better in my hand, but I decided on the 19 for concealability.

Two questions for you... Is your G19 trigger guard sanded down, and/or would you recommend it? My fingers seem to be too large for the 19 finger grooves and I'm looking for a solution rather than trading my brand new 19 for a 17 at a loss.

Also, what holster are you using in this video?

  • Can you teach us the legendary Hickock quick-draw?

  • Thank You Hickok, I purchased my first hand gun like last month and I m really sux at shooting. I will apply all those techniques in shooting range.

I shoot Left and Low with both my New Springfield XDM 9 and 45.

  • @gtvapsamtik After only one month of shooting everybody sucks.

It takes time and lots of practice like everything else.

Dont compare yourself with people who have being shooting thousands of rounds since decades, just keep practicing and you will do fine.

  • Hello Hickok45, I wanted to ask you if you know anything about desert eagles. how reliable is the desert eagle? As Glock reliable? I am thinking of buying one for home defense. Sorry to keep bothering you, but I respect your opinion

  • @eastofakron1 , Seems okay if you keep it clean and lubed really well. I would not keep one for home defense, but that is just me. Too many other better choices.

  • @hickok45

I own a glock 21 for my office and a Kahr P380 for my CCW. Now I just need a good home defense gun that is super reliable. I know glocks are great but I don't want to own the same gun twice Thats why I was looking into a 1911 or desert eagle. I can't buy a shot gun because my local range won't allow them to shoot them there so I won't be able to practice. What do you recommand other than a Glock that is a reat gun, reliable and trustworthy?

  • @eastofakron1 , A Sig, M&P, Springfield, etc. would work fine. You might want something different, though, just for kicks and variety. Maybe a nice revolver you like, or maybe a 1911. AFter all, it's the 100th anniversary coming up, so maybe a 1911?

  • @hickok45 huh interesting i use pretty much same grip as you never noticed that before

  • @eastofakron1 hi i hope all is ok have you ver think in buy the revolver of smith & wesson model 686 357 mag inox steel btw Smith& Wesson are very reliable revolver i have 26 years and my gretagrandfather buy ha revolver 65 years ago and this revolver is still workins like if was yesterday bough take care greetings from El Salvador

  • @glock21csv

Thanks for the message bro, glad to hear El Salvador has given it's citizens the right to bear arms as I know many countries around the world are very unfair to their citizens. Glad I live in the USA. I love S&W revolvers & I know they are built very well. Only probably is the limited ammo. Not too comfortable with only 6 rounds & slow reload time, especially for a home defense gun. I think a good choice is a Saiga 12 semi auto shotgun find a place outdoors to practice

  • @eastofakron1 Hi Bro well Saiga is the shootgun that use the famous Spetnaz in Rusia well i told from ha revolver because my cousin that is Marine told me that to me for ha protection of the house always is better have ha revolver, pistol, because your threat will be no more of 15 meters in mayorty of the case of self defense and body to body fight is better to have a revolver that ha shoot gun because revolver can use until the persons that never in his life shot ha gun is just to have pull trigg

  • @eastofakron1 I see what your saying about wanting a variety but if your already comfortable with one system i personally wouldnt change things up and focus more on honing the skills you've got. Just my 2 cents, and you know the old saying to fear the man with one gun more than the man with many, cause chances are hes pretty good with it. lol you should find a system that fits and use it consistantly that way when the baddies come busting in, whether its the office or the home, you'll get em.

  • @eastofakron1 get a Metro Arms "American Classic II" M1911, It has all the features of the higher end M1911s and it is VERY reliable right out of the box( As with all guns,Ensure this with about 200 rounds thru it first). It's made in the Philipines and it only costs $420 . I love mine and haven't had any malfunctions.NONE! :)

  • @eastofakron1 yea the g21 is a great weapon.

  • @eastofakron1 Desert Eagle seems to be an extremely reliable firearm, provided you fire it correctly. Most, if not all, of the malfunctions I've heard of on Desert Eagles occur because of people not holding the weapon correctly. Limp wristing the weapon or bending your elbows too much will allow the gun to recoil excessively, and it messes up the gas operated action. It also causes the gun to torque in your hands, and you'll get hit in the face by the ejected brass.

  • @eastofakron1 A 12 gauge pump is the way to go for hd

  • @eastofakron1 A .50 AE is an over the top caliber and far too big for practical defense. What you you want is a caliber that you are comfortable with, a grip you are comfortable with, and a decent mag capacity. Home defense means that concealment isn't a problem. Go big, but not too big. I would sugest to anyone, an XDM. The 9mm has 19+1 capacity and is very comfortable. Springfield got a lot of critical acclaim for the XDM series. Desert eagle calibers are .50, .44, and .357. Don't get a D.E.

  • I DOUBLE DARE SOMEONE TO ROB THIS SENOIR CITIZEN HE WILL LET AK-47 CLIPS GO ON YOUR ASS BIOTCH MUCH LOVE TO THIS OLD MAN HE BE SMACKING SHIT

  • I shoot an Para-Ordnance P16 and STI Legend. Some people say that you should have a 60% grip on the support hand and a 40% grip on the shooting hand. What's your view on this?

  • @tengc , Don't know. I never thought about it. I just do what feels good and enables me to shoot well. This kind of stuff is over-analyzed by a lot of people.

  • your very helpful

  • Great explanations. Now, you mentionned in the video on stance that you aim with your left eye. But do you keep both eyes open when shooting?

  • Haha wow I thought this was shooting as in movies. Boy...I was wondering why this guy would teach me about film.

  • Great video, as usual. A question (for anyone/everyone) Which do you think is louder? A boom when you expect a click, or a click when you expect a boom?

Thanks for the awesome information hickok!

  • What kind of holster are you using in this video?

I have a nasty habit of putting my left index finger on the front of the trigger guard. I usually realize it and correct it before I actually fire, but it tends to find it's way up there at first. I need to work on that.

Thanks for taking the time to do these videos btw, as well as all of the other ones you've posted. I always look forward to new videos from you.

  • @noob5000000 . Not sure. See my FAQ on holsters.

  • @noob5000000 , noob, I like to blade my support hand fingers and come up to ready position with index finger (support hand) under trigger guard.

  • Mr. Hickok: Thank you for creating these videos they are very helpful. I just started shooting and I am using a thumbs forward grip. Many of my shots end up down and to the left of the target (right handed and left eye dominant). Any ideas as to what would cause that and how to correct it? Thank you.

  • Great technique video. It's very refreshing to get such straight forward, practical information without any hint of arrogance. Thanks, Greg.

  • wow, I'm a new shooter I have a G22, and I would put my index finger (from my support hand) outside the trigger guard and I kept hitting the target low left now I see why, thx.

  • Comment removed

  • I loooove to hear that clank when hitting a steel target...it means job well done.

  • Have you ever gave the "Presidents 100" a try?

  • I just watched your 3 videos on shooting technique and am forwarding them to both my boys. I think I know the answer to my question before I ask it. My biggest struggle while shooting is I can't clearly see the rear sights (or front sights for that matter) of my pistols any longer. I see fine in the distance... If I put on reading glasses the sights on my pistol are clear and the target is blurry. Which way to go? What are your thoughts on aging eyes and shooting? Thanks, CRB7172

  • @CRB7172 , Well, you want your front sight to be clear if possible, so whatever glasses do that best for you, I'd think. I was just reading an article in "Handgunner" by MIke Venturino in which he mentions going to the eye doctor and taking a 1911 with him. He wanted glasses that made the sights look clear. Might be an idea, unless you live in the People's Republic of California, New Jersey, New York, Chicago, etc. :-)

  • what model 1911 is that?

  • @AirsoftVeteran96 , It's a Glock 19.

  • Wow, man, really..

  • @joshua12345676 HAHA, shit i just noticed that a slip of the keyboard, i knew it was a glock, that was the first time i noticed lol

  • That is a awful big slip of the keyboard!

  • looks like you forgot to put your ears on just like the time you were shooting that colt single action army

  • @5:40 I can't hear you anymore. Any chance of a caption?

  • It seems as though something with the mic on the camera reacted wierd with him shooting. Try turning up the volume of your speakers, that seemed to work for me.

  • What about the thumb on your shooting hand? I naturally wrap it around and rest it above and touching my middle finger, not in the indentation for the thumb on the grip. Is that something I should try to change or no big deal? Also do you shoot with one eye open or two?

  • I just put my thumb where it's out of the way and feel natural. As long as you're not interfering with the slide operation, it shouldn't matter that much.

I shoot with my left eye, so I pretty much close my right eye I think.

  • Very informative, I wonder are those stock Glock sights by the way?

  • I forget which gun I have in this video, but as I recall it's a 9mm. All my 9mm Glocks have stock sights. I have two or three Glocks I've bought used that had night sights on them. Most of them are stock.

  • @sully250r I saw hicock replied already but around 18:00 theres a close up and they are stock sights

  • oooh I think I see a flinch at 16:27.

  • @squabsamosa - LOL, don't he'd flinch if a grenade went off beside him. He da man.

  • rock out with your glock out!

  • @mikemikemofo NONONO!! "Send'em to Heaven, with a 1911"!!! LOL:)

  • I guess I shoot my small defensive revolver with what you'd call a "crush" grip, it's overly firm but gives good control, retention, and accuracy for me. Thank you SO much for sharing fundamentals with us...they can not be over stressed.

  • I have an M1911-A1.45ACP I use the weaver stance, and I'm south paw. Funny thing is I use my right eye for target aquisition. LOL, its normal for me, and the point is its comfortible, and accurate for me.

  • I have a friend who shoot his 1911 one handed and he will never listen to anyone. He can't hit anything. I want to show him this video., maybe it will help.

  • isn't it better to bend the arm slightly to absorb the recoil with the arm instead of it transfering to the body?

  • Possibly so for some people. I tend to shoot better when I keep my arm straight.

  • I like that philosophy of "horses for courses". I had a military friend who tried to get me to bend my arm, I like the straight arm technique better too. Thanks for the videos, your instruction is great.

  • thanks hickok. You taught me alot and showed me my mistakes especially on trigger control. Great teacher.

  • Hickok once again another excellent tutorial if you include world news update in your videos I am through my satellite receiver out the window.

    Keep up the good work.

  • What kind of holster are you wearing??

  • I believe I'm wearing the Galco Summer Comfort in these technique videos.

  • hickok, I don't see you carrying/shooting as many full size glocks as you do compact/sub. is there a reason for this preference? or is it simply conceallability/comfort?

  • Right on both accounts, and since I shoot the compact and subcompact as well or better than the large Glock, I really have no reason to prefer the big ones unless it's to enjoy slinging some bigger lead occasionally.

  • weird question,.... have you even been in law enforcement?

  • Watch his video on the Glock 22 to find out.

  • muchas Felicidades por sus conocimientos y muchas gracias por compartir esta informacion

  • Hickok - great stuff. I bought a G27 last week and your videos have actually motivated my wife to try it out at our local range. Really appreciate it. BTW - could you or anyone else recommend a waist band (in or out) holster for the G27 that would work with the crimson laser trigger? It adds about an inch or so to the front of the hook trigger guard. Thanks!

  • Love the talon grip. Improved my shooting a lot.

  • Been carping at you for a long time to create these and (as I expected) you did it with aplomb!

    Thanks, my friend!

  • Do you ever use the cross thumb hold with a revolver??

  • Greetings from the Netherlands to you Hickok!!!

  • i hit a metal plate at 400 meters with my glock 17. yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeah.

  • thanks! :D

that's holster is i want it XD

  • what holster are you using? looks like a fobus paddle holster.

  • It's a Galco "Summer Comfort" model that I picked up recently. Seems okay thus far. I think I told somebody it was the Summer Carry, but it's the Summer Comfort, actually.

  • hickok. how much

    holester..? pistol holester.

  • Cost of the holster? I think it was about $65.00.

  • Everyday I check to see if you've added something new. I really appreciate these last three. Thanks for your efforts. I'll bet the Talon Grip business has gone up recently.

  • The company deserves to do well. Wish I'd come up with those things myself! There's enough "goofy" stuff out there on the shooting market; it's nice to see something simple and useful.

  • I ordered a Talon Grip for my Glock 19 Saturday afternoon after watching your video Saturday morning. It arrived on Monday............. That's fast service.

  • just another great video

  • I like that holster got to get one for my 23

  • THANK YOU

  • love your vids. no macho nonsense, just good common sense info....thanks for making them.have you ever done a how to on making your steele targets and setting up a range.??do you ever have richochets????

  • I don't make my own targets; I buy them or tell somebody what to make for me.

See my Hickok45 Visit video about the richochets.

  • Great video again.

  • The grip on the Glock is pretty nice, but it gets slippery after awhile! I just ordered a Talon grip for my Glock 20 today. Thanks for the video and info!

  • always great videos and helpful..only been shooting for about 8yrs, so it's always nice to learn someting new

  • what type of holster are you using?

  • It's a Galco Summer Carrry I just picked up recently.

  • Wow. Just plain wow. These video clips are amazingly helpful to me. Thank you for the efforts.

Maybe a silly question - I got the Glock 19 based upon your review, and I really like it. In practicing the take down procedure, it is necessary to dry fire it. In your last two clips, I notice you dry fire your 19 quite a bit. Question - is this "hard" on the piece? Will it damage it in any way? THANKS again.

  • Thanks.

Yes, the trigger needs to be rearward before you field strip a Glock, and I don't think it hurts a Glock to dry fire it. If so, none of mine have gotten the message that they are supposed to be damaged. :-)

  • What a great video. Hickok, this is a video people would pay money for. You have made your subscribers very lucky to have this as a reference. As always, 5 stars.

    Now to improve my shooting...hopefully

  • Thanks. Yeah, I continue to throw out what little knowledge I have; now if I ever do that DVD I'd thought about, I'll have to recruit even more Hooters girls to appear in it, or it will never sell!

  • Minimal if any muzzle rise on your shots. That's the way it's supposed to be for fast, accurate follow-up shots.

  • You should have gotv that fly he was a real ham lol.

  • Actually, the mosquitoes were trying to eat us up. I was about to use some Gold Dots on them!

  • What Glock is that? 19.. 26?

  • Hi Hickok! Never mind I see the tactical rail. :)

  • Not to mention you just said it was a 19, guess I spoke to soon.

  • I meant to give a run-down of the gear I was using. The Glock is one of my Glock 19's and the IWB holster is a Galco I just picked up recently.

  • Sorry! I did not mean to rate poor on this video!

    Thanks for all videos!!

  • Excellant 3 part series.
