If this episode had run short this scene would make good padding but as it was there was no room for it. Despite great acting it adds nothing the audience needs to know, does not move the plot forward & even slows the pacing down. It does give us some insight into Ben's motive's in taking/saving Alex. He believed Danielle to be crazy & he was right. The first time Alex got a rash (like Aaron's) Danielle would have killed her. This scene also foreshadows Ben's abusive childhood at Roger's hand.
i haven't watched series 5 yet, so i don't know what happens, but I am glad that this scene didn't make it, because it is a little too deep for what the rest of the story about Alex, Danielle and Ben has been so far, if that makes sense.
It's show versus tell. We didn't need to see Locke & Ben be this catty. We already sense it. The actors are both so good all the time, this scene became unnecessary.
Also, the setting was wholly unremarkable, the camera angles uninteresting, and the scene brings the story to a screeching halt. Pacing is a big thing for Lost.
Still, great performances from both of them, even tho the dialog is a little heavy-handed and revealing. Definitely NOT cut due to acting.
Probably a good idea to delete this scene back during season 4 but if we watched it with what we know now, how Ben actually did kidnap Alex, we can interpret every little thing he says here. He only took Alex to protect her... It gets pretty deep.
Ben is so misguided -or is he? Its a big clue to the show Kate Sawyer Jack Sun Jin Claire Charlotte Locke Hurley Walt even Anna Lucia didnt always get on with her Mum! A v.strange theory??
I guess this is the reason the deleted it. They made a writing mistake, filmed the scene and realized the mistake afterwards and cut it. Because otherwise, this is a great scene.

They probably needed more time, and this scene doesn't reveal anything that you couldn't infer.

to me it reveals alot. They thing lock says to ben is intressting, and gives a really good reason why he raised her.
But I believe ben is a lier, he always make up good reasons ;)

He should have said "life" instead of "childhood." When he was young, John still didn't know who his parents were o.o;

Yeah, that seemed weird. Wish this scene had been included though.

This scene seems really important to the plot. I guess they didn't want Ben to come off as the "good guy" just yet.
