  • Water, its Free from the tap!

  • Very, Very, Good, good, good.

  • love it!! My dad worked for Calso!

  • What an awesome reel!

I agree with BlinkAndItsOver in that I wouldn't call it dated either. I think it's like the Hills Bros coffee commercial...'its as delicious today as it was yesterday, and will be tomorrow'

    Thanks for posting it!

  • Where's Films Reel? You Tube took him away. They'll be passed up soon.Competitiors are coming.

  • These are fantastic. Thank you for posting them.

  • Holy cow! Thanks for posting this reel, Jason!

I found this clip after seeing a still of the Calso Water campaign in the Story Board Producitons section of Amil Amidi's gorgeous "Cartoon Modern: Style And Design In Fifties Animation," which lists the designer as "unknown."

According to the same book, SBP only lasted from 1953-1955, so that dates the non-Quartet work pretty narrowly.

Good for you for clearing up that credit so your super-talented late gramps can finally get his due!!

  • @criticalmetrics1 Storyboard shut down its west coast studio and Quartet formed from it under Art Babbitt, Les Goldman and a couple of others. Mike Lah eventually took it over.

Well, his name's Jacob, but, yeah, I agree! Sterling Hollloway and some others, as well as June Foray's granny bird...

  • What great work, full of charm, wit and economy.

I wouldn't call it "dated," I'd say "beautifully evocative of its period." Thanks for posting it.

  • Good glimpse of what I would guess is the early 1960s. (Was that a satellite dish on the "Home of the Future?" Not to mention roller blades!)

The great voice talent Paul Frees is on the first clip. June Foray ("Rocky the Flying Squirrel") is the granny feeding the bear. And the set wraps up with narration by Sterling Holloway ("Winnie the Pooh").

  • Very distinctive, humorous style. Great stuff!

My favorite has to be that boxing announcer in the Carling ad.

I'll bet you're quite proud of your grandfather.
