  • I use my rice cooker to steam veggies, actually (usually frozen), so for me it's not a unitasker. It works surprisingly well, although I recommend anyone trying it to be very careful, as it's not the purpose the machine was made for.

  • I literally X_X when he threw the rice cooker out the window...

  • Dude, my friend made me watch this when I was high.

  • Funniest AB face is at 7:28

  • @Willejt i love how he just glides in lol

  • "You don't want to eat that... bad eats" lol

  • i love how u can see the string attatched to the salt container :)

  • Alton's right about households who cook loads of rice everyday. A Rice Cooker makes it easier. We cook so much rice at my place, I finally broke down and bought a basic one that did what it was supposed to do, cook rice and not say filet a steak with it's fancy buttons.

  • but rice cookers are not unitaskers! you can make bread in them

  • rice cookers can also cook stews, congees, gruels, and even oatmeats. There are also the before mentioned bread, and more. then again, since's i'm asian(chinese) i cook rice often, and it's what i eat 80% of my times. thus my NEED for a rice cooker. I'm so sorry alton, i love your show and you, but i must break your rule this one time.

  • His Japanese is terrible!

  • Good segment !!

  • lol he never explained how to actually cook the rice

  • yes he did, take it to a boil and then simmer it for 10 minutes

  • It's not that hard. You can find out how to make rice anywhere, including on the package for the rice, and instructions for rice cookers.

  • NO SUSHI FOR YOU!

  • cooking tackle box ha never thought of that (you rock ab)

  • "No Sushi for you!"

  • woot this dude kicks crevasse

  • 6:45

how did the salt container open on its own?!?!?!?1

  • around 6:48 you can see a glint or reflection at the top of the screen, which is fishing line

  • SUSHI NAZI!!!!

  • Ha ha! Japanese looove mayonnaise. Mayonnaise on pizza, hot dogs, bread rolls and yes even in Sea-chicken (cheap tuna) onigiri.

  • THe last sentence is definetely true! I reseached this and it is true, and I know because i'm asian :D

  • im asian as well. what are you refering to? i commented 4 months ago so im not fresh with it.

  • this is one of the only times i've outright disagreed with AB. rice cookers aren't uni-taskers; you can also steam veggies, seafood, dumplings, etc., use it for stews/curries, and even bake bread in them, among other things.

  • How many times do people not listen to AB. He did state that if you go through a lot of rice, then it is a must have and should have fuzzy logic. I do believe in his book about kitchen tools he stated that going through a lot of rice would be at least cooking rice once or twice a week.

  • sushi was acualy used to preserve fish it wasnt like wat he showed

  • ...hmmm aren't tatamis (sushi rolling mats) unitasker too?

  • hes the sushi nazi

  • funny. we call my physiology teacher the grammar nazi

  • "The Japanese version is superior in every way" holds true for a lot of things...

  • OMG he threw away a rice cooker! lol :(

  • remember what AB says. If you cook rice more than twice a week its a must have but if you dont its not really worth the cost. He has stated that in previous episodes and in his gear for the kitchen book.

  • NO SUSHI FOR YOU

  • His Japanese pronunciation is horrid.

  • A lot of Japanese people have bad pronounciations in the English language so it evens out.

  • @Zephilindrum That statement comes as a comprete supplies to me.

  • Comment removed

  • by golly, this guys got guts! i aint never been caught dead or alive in a shirt like that... specially in my bee yard!

  • "Don't eat those; bad eats" Love Alton!

  • pickled ginger is also great for upset stomachs

  • I used my rice cooker to be quite a multitasker actually XD! I make rice, congee, instant noodles, I even found a recipe where you can use it bake bread XD!

  • Yeah I saw that in Yakitate! Japan.

  • This Show IS seriously the BEST food show!!!!!

  • me too

  • omg i lovw this show!!!

  • hahah hes using beaker to measure

  • true only if your eating it from your own plate. When taking from the centre or common plate, use the back as to not get your spit on all the other pieces. However most of the time people will ask for a master set as to avoid all this confusion

  • Ackkk, AB threw the rice cooker awayyy!! That pierces my Asian soul. T-T

  • hhhahahaha alton brown's the best

  • h8liars y do u say things like that

  • Fuck you

  • No you arent, go fuck yourself you nobody.

  • Yes you are intitled to your opinion but you can state stuff alot nicer then you did....if you were polite maybe so many people would not have gotten upset at you...

  • I love Alton Brown. He is by far my favorite Food Network personality. My Mom doesn't like him much because she thinks he's silly. I think his shows are both entertaining and very informative. Rock on Alton.

  • @FoulOwl He is silly. And silly is good. :D

  • @MalkavianHand : Silly's not just good, silly's entertaining and thought-provoking, atleast to a degree. Which in this case adds up to a more receptive audience (if you've got the right audience, ofcourse), and a more educational experience.

A.B. keeps things light and fast, but if you watch the show, the pace is slightly intense, which helps draw viewers back into the show. 'Good Eats' is a show you do have to pay attention to, without going too overboard.

    He achieves a nice balance.

  • that dude is my uncle he owns mf sushi bar in atlanta swear to god

  • Chris Kinjo, the sushi chef in that episode of "Good Eats" is your uncle. wow! mf sushi bar? is the mf in "mf sushi bar", an acronym or not?

  • do you know that red snapper, mahi mahi and pompano can be eaten raw as sushi/sashimi, just like tuna and spanish mackerel :-)

  • Hahaha! "You don't want to eat those, bad eats!" Love it.

  • my family cooked a whole chicken in a rice cooker and its really good. so its not really a unitasker. also my brother took a rice cooker to collage so he can boil ramen whenever hes hungry :)

  • My mom actually steams sausages in our rice cooker, so it's not completely a unitasker :)

  • I'll have to try that!

  • My uncle steams sausages in the rice cooker too!

Every Asian has to have a rice cooker in their house!

  • wow i never knew he knows asian food!!

  • You fail at trolling.

  • Dude, he fails at life.

  • Alton Brown is a genius, he even knows more than a lot of sushi places, like about the wasabi between the rice and fish.

  • uhh, i would believe if a sushi place didn't know about the wasabi between the fish and rice, it can't be called a sushi place (at least i wouldn't go there)

  • reply to kaiseryuki15 (does it go under the names anymore when you reply???)...oh and many of us eat sushi the 'incorrect' way. the whole lets mix up as much wasabi we can take into your soy sauce isn't 'correct' (but i still do it) -_-"

  • Sushi is delicious, delicious stuff.

  • I agree with you 110%. I love it with a slice of Ginger, and that hot green spicy stuff with soy sauce.

ones with cream cheese are awesome. And fish eggs. Wow, im surprised I said "Fish eggs" and "awesome" in the same paragraph. I tried it once on vaction and im hooked.

Seeing this, I didn't know that im supposed to eat the ginger AFTER, not at the same time. Oh well, I still can't eat with chop sticks :(

  • Mmmmm, yes, wasabi (the hot green spicy stuff) makes sushi even more delicious than it already is!

Which is pretty damn hard to do.

  • that hot green spicy stuff is WASABI. XD

  • this show is single-handedly responsible for giving me the courage to actually TRY sushi

  • azns eat anything and im proud that i can eat and enjoy that stuff

  • Agreed, even if the closest to raw fish sushi I've come is the tuna-from-a-pouch version the Chinese buffet offers on weekends. The prospect of food poisoning, etc. is still a bit much for me to go whole hog.
