I am in the British Paras, our equivalent of your US Rangers, met a few Rangers in my recent tour, top lads they where, some of them couldn't believe the tests we have to overcome to be a Para.
People always go on about who is better British Army or the US, but end of the day we are allies.

To become an Army Ranger for anybody that is curious, you have to enlist in the Army (DERP) finish Airborne school, and attend RASP (Used to be RIP) once you do that, you are a Ranger. Ranger SCHOOL however, is a leadership school, anybody from any branch can attend Ranger school (only Army soldiers can attend RASP) completing Ranger school earns you the tab, but you're not part of the 75th Ranger Regiment.
@droga187 You can't join the 75th Ranger Regiment unless you join the Army and finish Airborne school, you CAN go to Ranger school if you are a Marine though, but you won't be a technical "Ranger".

I watched a doco recently about these guys going through Ranger School, it was called surviving the cut, I knew their selection would be tough but still I was shocked by what I saw!! Hats off to anyone that survives the cut and earns their Ranger Tab!!!!

@DevinChief Haha, you seem to be confused about face paint. Face paint just helps the soldier stay camouflaged. You obviously use different colors in different climates, woodland in this case. In woodland you would use green and black or brown. the darker color goes on shiny areas of the face such as nose and cheeks while the lighter color goes on darker areas like under the nose. But this is just info i gather from a soldiers handbook i got off a friend to get ready.

I personally, am going to go out for BUD/S after my time in high school and college. I hate when people mix me up with CPSF and real life. i can answer..my dad was a NCO and attended ranger school, and passed top five in his class..and scored a 25/25 on the darby queen...first it helps if you have attended airborne school...this way you can perfect your skills in paratrooping..then you must pass ranger school....(this means the combat leadership course ) which is a couple phases..afterwards you can go back to your infantry unit or switch to a ranger regiment if asked and or chosen to be in one....your welcome..RANGERS LEAD THE WAY
To end all the dumb arguments: The purpose of the 75th RANGER REGIMENT is to be the BEST light infantry force in the world. A Ranger has many perks a Marine does not, one of the important ones is that the Rangers don't have a budget so they can get almost any training they want, also any MOS in the army can attend RASP or Ranger school. And btw no Ranger EVER says "yeah dude I'm in the rangers its soo tough" A real Airborne Ranger states proudly what battalion he is in and that he is airborne

@joshnobles2011 You couldn't be more wrong. Going through Ranger School and getting the "TAB" means your Ranger qualified. Being a US Army Ranger means your part of the 75th Ranger Regiment. To be part of the 75th Ranger Regiment you must complete RASP, formerly RIP. Originally RIP was 3 weeks then in January 2004 it became 4 weeks due to an added week of Basic Rifle Marksmanship. Now it's RASP, (Ranger Assessment and Selection Program) which is 8 weeks due to added hand to hand and demolitions

To become a NCO within the regiment you have to complete Ranger School. Today, a body joining the regiment will see combat before ranger school. So...

I love how everyone is all disputing on how much initial training each type of commando gets. It doesn't matter if any soldier or marine get 10 freakin years of training. When the bullets start flying we are all humans in the end. A good warrior comes from experience. The training only helps set you in the right path. Does a good football player become a good football player just from training? no it takes experience to become "the best".

There is a reason that rangers are rangers, marines are marines, seals are seals, and "delta" is "delta". If one was "better" than the other they wouldn't exist in the first place. They all have different jobs and missions and I know for a fact "being better than a soldier" or "being better than a marine" is NOT in neither of their job descriptions.
I know a lot of Rangers and Marines and I can tell you that the goal is the same in war but the operational capability is different. Same is true with the SEALs I know. The main point is different branches all have different specialties. Still one team one fight.
no. Special Forces is just the official name for the Green Berets. everything ie. SEALS Rangers and Para Rescue including the Green Berets are ALL special operations.
For special forces i meant to put Assaults that special Ops would do but need to be done on a larger scale I.E: search and destroy a target in a short amount of time or elimating on hostiles quickly without very minimal casualties
@Hellscope1 thats so far off its rediculous. special forces are a number of units called groups, who have all had the same training and provide the same function, and wear a green beret. special operations is a term used to identify the more advanced trained units who operate under socom. they include the 75th, all SF groups, psyops, 160th, seal units, marsoc and it's components, and alot of different airforce units.
Remember people, there is a difference between 'Special forces' and 'Special Ops'. Special forces= rangers, green berets, Marine force recon, ect. Special ops= SEALs, Delta, Pararescue, ect.
The missions that concern SEALs or Army Special Forces are different then those that concern the Army Rangers. Same is true for the 1st SOFD-D (Delta) This being said all three are door kickers and are highly lethal warriors.... @SaintsSpecOps Um, yeah, delta force recruits from Green Berets, Rangers, Seals and even Marines. But as 18 series (Special Forces, Green Berets) you're looking at 1.5 to 2 years of training. Whereas Seals are 6 months, rangers is 61 days. Yeah, I just signed my contract with the Army as an 18x. That's the general admission MOS for Green Berets. Hoping to be an 18B, weapons Specialist. Yes a civilian can request 18 series if you score high enough on your ASVAB and GT.
Here's a secret. Guess who goes with the Green Berets and Delta Force and does the "killing" for them? Yes, guess really hard. Rangers are the best "fighting unit" in the world.
Fretburningmaster ask a Green Beret what he thinks of the Rangers. They know the truth and I bet the Green Beret would do nothing but praise them. People outside and many inside the military don't understand the different missions and natures of these special forces and tab them as being very good at something they do very little of. My point being is when the USA wants to kill something they send the Rangers.
The Green Berets are as good as the Seals. When you read someone's opinion please be wise enough to go to their channel and see if they are in a "position" to where they really know who is the best and who does what. There is no real fair way to rank them because they all serve a different purpose.
green berets and SEALs are two totally different classes. the SAELs are an elite fighting group but, green berets are special forces and are only second to DELTA. SEALs dont come close to special forces

The Russians have the troops of the internal ministry. They wear Red berets are very much like our Rangers. People mistakenly call them the Spetsnaz when they are a branch of the Spetsnaz. There are different levels of the Spetsnaz and people in the West still have trouble understanding that. The troops of the internal ministry are the best of the Spetsnaz. The thing is they do not have access to the equipment our Rangers have. As soldiers they are just as good.

I watched a doco recently about these guys going through Ranger School, it was called surviving the cut, I knew their selection would be tough but still I was shocked by what I saw!! Hats off to anyone that survives the cut and earns their Ranger Tab!!!!

@DevinChief Haha, you seem to be confused about face paint. Face paint just helps the soldier stay camouflaged. You obviously use different colors in different climates, woodland in this case. In woodland you would use green and black or brown. the darker color goes on shiny areas of the face such as nose and cheeks while the lighter color goes on darker areas like under the nose. But this is just info i gather from a soldiers handbook i got off a friend to get ready.

I personally, am going to go out for BUD/S after my time in high school and college. I hate when people mix me up with CPSF and real life. @xXMinersnumer1Xx You need a ranger contract upon entry to ensure that you don't get screwed by your recruiter. Make sure you get one and you'll go to Airborne and then RASP, formerly RIP and then you'll be in the 75th RGR RGT.

i can answer..my dad was a NCO and attended ranger school, and passed top five in his class..and scored a 25/25 on the darby queen...first it helps if you have attended airborne school...this way you can perfect your skills in paratrooping..then you must pass ranger school....(this means the combat leadership course ) which is a couple phases..afterwards you can go back to your infantry unit or switch to a ranger regiment if asked and or chosen to be in one....your welcome..RANGERS LEAD THE WAY

To end all the dumb arguments: The purpose of the 75th RANGER REGIMENT is to be the BEST light infantry force in the world. A Ranger has many perks a Marine does not, one of the important ones is that the Rangers don't have a budget so they can get almost any training they want, also any MOS in the army can attend RASP or Ranger school. And btw no Ranger EVER says "yeah dude I'm in the rangers its soo tough" A real Airborne Ranger states proudly what battalion he is in and that he is airborne

@joshnobles2011 You couldn't be more wrong. Going through Ranger School and getting the "TAB" means your Ranger qualified. Being a US Army Ranger means your part of the 75th Ranger Regiment. To be part of the 75th Ranger Regiment you must complete RASP, formerly RIP. Originally RIP was 3 weeks then in January 2004 it became 4 weeks due to an added week of Basic Rifle Marksmanship. Now it's RASP, (Ranger Assessment and Selection Program) which is 8 weeks due to added hand to hand and demolitions

@wesdabest787 I have several friends who are rangers and this is what I was told . To join the regiment you have to go through the "Ranger Indoctrination Program". To become a NCO within the regiment you have to complete Ranger School. Today, a body joining the regiment will see combat before ranger school. So...
Ranger scroll= completed RIP and in the regiment
Ranger tab= completed the combat leadership course known as Ranger School.

@DevinChief you have to go to ranger school to officially become an army ranger and also get the tab and have the oppurtunity to fight with the 1st battallion 75th ranger regiment. but most rangers will just go back to their regular infantry or airborne units but be ranger and probably leader of all of them. but some stay with the actual ranger regiment.

Being a U.S. Army Ranger means serving in the 75th Ranger Regiment at either 1st, 2nd or 3rd battalion. To do that for the millionth time you must graduate RASP, formerly RIP. And if Marine infantry were equivalent to Rangers, why would they send only their best to Ranger school; which, by the way, all of whom do not pass. I love how everyone is all disputing on how much initial training each type of commando gets. It doesn't matter if any soldier or marine get 10 freakin years of training. When the bullets start flying we are all humans in the end. A good warrior comes from experience. The training only helps set you in the right path. Does a good football player become a good football player just from training? no it takes experience to become "the best".

There is a reason that rangers are rangers, marines are marines, seals are seals, and "delta" is "delta". If one was "better" than the other they wouldn't exist in the first place. They all have different jobs and missions and I know for a fact "being better than a soldier" or "being better than a marine" is NOT in neither of their job descriptions.

I know a lot of Rangers and Marines and I can tell you that the goal is the same in war but the operational capability is different. Same is true with the SEALs I know. The main point is different branches all have different specialties. Still one team one fight.

Special Ops= Smaller situations. Ex: Retrieving Data, Assasination, Defending a valuable asset, Hostage situations, Ect.

@Hellscope1 thats so far off its rediculous. special forces are a number of units called groups, who have all had the same training and provide the same function, and wear a green beret. special operations is a term used to identify the more advanced trained units who operate under socom. they include the 75th, all SF groups, psyops, 160th, seal units, marsoc and it's components, and alot of different airforce units.

@SaintsSpecOps Um, yeah, delta force recruits from Green Berets, Rangers, Seals and even Marines. But as 18 series (Special Forces, Green Berets) you're looking at 1.5 to 2 years of training. Whereas Seals are 6 months, rangers is 61 days. Yeah, I just signed my contract with the Army as an 18x. That's the general admission MOS for Green Berets. Hoping to be an 18B, weapons Specialist. Yes a civilian can request 18 series if you score high enough on your ASVAB and GT.

The Russians have the troops of the internal ministry. They wear Red berets are very much like our Rangers. People mistakenly call them the Spetsnaz when they are a branch of the Spetsnaz. There are different levels of the Spetsnaz and people in the West still have trouble understanding that. The troops of the internal ministry are the best of the Spetsnaz. The thing is they do not have access to the equipment our Rangers have. As soldiers they are just as good.

No a Ranger recieves more training than a Marine Grunt, but that is just the USMC infantry. A Ranger is no match for a Force Recon Marine, and for all who oppose that if you know that a For Recon Marine Has to go through Ranger school
