@johnchen0213 Simply put? Its like having the same graphics card 2 times more powerful :D In the end you will need to worry less of overheating and now your physx can be done by one cores and the other graphical jobs by the other core as well.

Basically SLI is a way to connect 2 - 3 graphics cards together to work as 1 :)

@thegodfatherdany  All you really need is the connector, if any incompatibilities in software level you should be able to obtain the drivers with no real problems. Sweep this place for video tutorials.

When sli enabled it sets pci speed at 8x instread of 16x

and the performance increase is varied some games you have trouble getting to work some run slower and some run about 80% faster

in SLI or crossfire you cant have more than 1 monitor. and you should wait for the directx11 series cards. but crossfire is more advanced than SLI..

actually you're right. Only I buyed a PC some months ago, and the card that comes with it is not that good.

I started making gaming videos (l4d and others) about 2 months ago, and this card is just what I need. I don't have the money to buy trillions dollars cards. And the 260 gtx is 209$ on TigerDirect. 280 is around 500$ .

lol me neither. I'm actually a french Canadian. But I also have other things to pay, like the rent, electricity, internet, food, etc. Don't have yet the extra money to buy these monster. I'll keep this pleasure for later in my life.

and anyway, the 260 can run Crysis at full spec (2500 reso, highest quality) at 16 fps, and the 280 can do so at 19.

Now...I don't really need to have these settings to enjoy the game.

and even back then you could run multiple monitor on SLI rigs and i assume crossfire aswell but mine was sli

One thing to note is that crossfire is much more supported by games and hardware because ATI made it a much more open standard. Nvidia kept SLI much closer to the chest. Also, any Core i7 motherboard with an Intel X58 chipset will support both SLI and Crossfire.

well with Vista, 32bit only enables up to 3GB of RAM, but 64bit enables 4 and more RAM, if you want to build a PC with a lot of RAM get a 64bit OS.

i know that SLI is for atleast all 8-series of GeForce cards, al Bits of XP and Vista, u only need 2 geforce cards supposting it, and a power supply supporting it

it's just Vista came out too early, so most of stuff was made for xp, now Vista is gaining power.

it doesnt matter the only thing that does matter is that the cards are sli ready and are the same chipset

they can also have differnt core clocks and brands just same chipset (e.g. an XFX 8800gt and an EVGA 8800gt) That wuld work fine.
