Had to skip at 1.42 still can't watch the horse die to this day ... never seen something so sad :( .................. but he comes back to life in the end :) :) :)
To the top commentors: Ditto and ditto. This is actually a REALLY good, impressive video. The musical edits are perfectly matched with the clips. This continues to be the only music in a children's movie that I love to this day.
Doldinger is still the best, did he score any movies after this and das boot? I really love both, moroder got his good twist on it too on this too. Magic of my childhood, i wanted to be atreyu
Excellent soundtrack and a great childhood fantasy film the best ever made. To me this film is Neverending in my mind. The characters, the plot, the scores, the title name, etc. I can't imagine a film be ever produced similar to this but I sure am glad that Germany made this film. I can't imagine any other way for this film to have been done than the way it was released. Amazing and solid cinema masterpiece!!
Wow, is that your own words or are those lines from the book? I read the book but it's been so long now I've forgotten...planning on reading it again soon.
You. Just took the words. Right out of my mouth. Actually, that was better than I could have put it. That is EXACTLY how I feel about the story as well. I think we're kindred spirits lol.
Wow, so many memories! Brought tears to my eyes. This is extremely well edited. Not like the amateurish crap a lot of people post. I had such a crush on Atreyu as a child! What a cute boy! It's still a dream of mine to meet Noah Hathaway. Anyone know if he's making any upcoming appearances?
it did die for real, when they were filming the lift that the horse was on got clogged up and kept on going down, so in the next scene where u see atreyu crying, he was crying for real
The cover of the book itself seems like it should belong on something like Aleister Crowley's "The Book of The Law" (Liber AL vel Legis), Albert Pike's "Morals and Dogma"(of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry), or Anton Szandor LaVey's "Satanic Bible"; not a children's "story" book.
i would have loved having a book with such a cover when i was a kid. ok, i respect, but still don't understand why some adult people think children are dummies, the story is so inspirational, even the book's cover make kids think that there's a realm which dies as we "grow up" and that symbolism should be understood, personally i think it's true, and that's what a kids movie is all about: inspiration and fantasy, dreaming. plus, the music is simply unforgettable, not so with today's stupid films
I used to watch this movie when I was a little girl when my parents were till together and their was no stress and everything was ok.Sure it brings back so many memories and tears.
I watched the movie as when I was about 4-5 yrs. And I always cried when the horse died in the swamp of sadness. Horrible story btw, the horse died for real.
its been a long time since I first saw the movie, and I still think artax's death at the swamps of sadness is one of the most memorable terrible scenes of the movie
I hope you mean, bring back teh creativity and feel of teh 80's.
Hollywood is recycyling EVERYTHING and refusing to be original in ANY way; so, yeah, they'll do a NeverEnding re-make & every other 80s movie within a few years!
the author of the fantastic story is Michael Ende. He came from germany, died 28. august 1995. he is counted as the most successfull author in germanys history, and is most known for "The Never Ending Story" and "momo"
I think it is a pity he is in the heaven, he should have been among us here on the earth :(
I am going to read his book "The Never Ending Story" soon, and I am really looking forward to experience his imagination! I have heard very much positive about it;)
I believe in reincarnation. Specifically, I believe we are either sent to Earth or come here of our own will on a mission of somekind. When that mission is accomplished, we go home. That was the case with
oops. Got interrupted. As I was saying: That is what I believe was the case with Mr. Ende. He accomplished what he was here to do and went home. Who knows? Maybe someday he'll come back and write another story that'll be even better than this one.
I'm not implying anything. But I have always had the urge to write a story like this. I'm 20 now, but I have this movie, story, burned into my memory. :P Not saying anything, but I would love to create something that Mr. Ende did, and be remembered so clearly for it!
stumbled across a few of these clips on youtube. watched it alot when i was younger and was craving to watch it... didnt think i still had it but looked through some old vids and there it was, the whole movie. how cool was atreyu
I completely agree with you, salmab384. This is a brilliant movie. Most movies today are complete rubbish compared to this. Film makers should make more movies like this.
This song is cool. The BBC used this music in their F1 shows in the late 80s/early 90s as background music for showing grid lineups. Nice synth sound.

Great video and a wonderful piece of music. This is the theme of the Ivory Tower (from Giorgio Moroder).

How could I be worthy to Name you when you represent every virtue I hold dear?
What foolish soul would entrust me with the power to recreate an entire Universe that was destroyed but for a single grain of sand?
Could it be that a Divine Creative Spark lives in my heart?

@AslansButterfly I was thinking about all that makes this movie epic for me.
The themes of the power of creativity wielded to crush the soul destroying forces of apathy and banality?
The empowering Sacrifice of sharing strength you were not aware you possessed
The power to keep hope alive even when it feels like the battle has taken everything from you?
Overcoming our insecurities to believe we can succeed?
These are all themes relevant to my day to day fight to fortify my health and spirits!
