  • my favourite backing track of all time!

  • What most posters don't realize is how well recorded this is; it was obviously done, largely, on a real stage with most, if not all the musicians playing together as opposed to how they record now, one track at a time.

This is why the recording has presence and real dimension; I'd like to know who their producer was; no one would listen to him for an instant today.

  • It is not duty of most posters including me.

I think you slack your efforts to search who it is.

    ...Otaku3

  • I saw him recently and even in his 60's he hits the notes. AND he is a very funny, unaffected man.

  • just got his autograph the other day at his concert. hes a dirt little old man but he still has a great voice ;)

  • Absolutely wonderful song!!!!!!!!

  • @TJCATLOVER I keep going back and listening to it!!!!!!!!

  • That David Blatt (Jay Black) can surely sing.

  • I wonder if the artists had as much fun singing these songs as we did listening to them?

  • WHAT A VOICE!!!!!!!

  • WOW Is All I Can Say

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SONG

  • this song is fucking epic and wonderful. i dont know what to do w/ myself o.O

blast it? my parents will be like, WTF?

  • oh man, could Jay ever belt out a song! along the great style of Orbison, etc. This one always gave me chill bumps! Romance to the maxx, and, none of the junk on the reality dance shows can touch it!

  • Unlike the music of today;s generation, this has a lilting melody and strong vocalists. Rap Crap will never take the place of listenable music.

  • @larrybiring Curb your musical ignorance. This song was one of the greats even back then, that's why it's still alive today instead of most of the crap back then. To assume that the entire art of melodies and vocalizing died with this song is so arrogantly ignorant, it's appaling. If you can't find good music in modern works, "You're. Not. Trying, hard enough".

  • @larrybiring Hello. If you haven't noticed, I'm the same YouTube user who wrote that scathing comment on being musicallly ignorant. I realized that what I typed wasn't constructive to you finding the kind of music you like to hear, so may I suggest that you search the Music Genome Project? It's an attempt at breaking down music tracks into it's composite parts and searches for other songs you may like based on those parts. Try searching "lifting melodies" and "strong vocals" and try to enjoy.

  • @xjxm Have been a musician for most of my life. Was in the 298th US Army Band in Berlin Germany- premier show band of Europe. I was raised on Gershwin, Porter, Berlin etc. I have personally observed the blank look on the faces of the current generation when these composers or their music is mentioned or even vocalists like Bing Crosby, more eyerolling and such. You are entitled yo your opinion, Please allow my to voice mine without all the vitriol (Anger) .

  • What ever happened to this guy, what pipes!!!!!!

  • @age3134 .....Alive and well and still thrilling us with his beautiful voice at 72 years old....You can find tons of wonderful Jay Black videos on YouTube.....most of the good ones posted by dunepaul9999...and many comments from me....Dawn

  • Love this song!!!!!!!!!

  • I saw Jay and the Americans way back in '79 in a dinner theater. Jay said at that point that every show he did, people requested Cara Mia -- he was so sick of singing it by then that he'd started saying "No". Of course, he sang it anyway. LOL

  • One of the greatest endings to a song ever!

  • Muchas Gracias 60otaku3, por compartir esta BELLEZA de Canción.

The best of the best. Jay fue un EXCELENTE vocalista.

    Mis felicitaciones por subirlo.

    ¡¡Ciao!! Bambinos

  • De nada, trasiano-san!!

  • I found this song and had not heard of it since I was 8 years old. What memories!

  • Remarkably, United Artists Records were dead set against having Jay record this song ("It's too operatic!"), which originally had been a 1954 million-seller for David Whitfield (London 1486). Jay, though, loved David's version and in the proverbial few minutes left over at the end of one session, cut this -- one of the finest records ever made by anybody -- in ONE take. UA then released it as a B side (!) -- until DJs flipped the single over and made it a #4 smash in the summer of 1965.

  • this was John Gotti's song ive heard

  • @crackernumber2 you could be right, it was featured in the film Gotti.

  • One day I hope to sing as good as him

  • summer of 1965.....wooo hoooo:=) the carousel drivein pasadena, texas!!!!!:=):=)

  • I last heard him perform at the Rotunda in Parsippany, NJ back in 1983. He was outstanding!

  • Hi newjerseybt: Do you live in Parsippany? I went to Parsippany High.

  • @jg048 I used to live in Clifton but now live in Honesdale, PA. I kept my old moniker.

  • Immortal.

  • Boy, does this take me back! I agree with John...WHAT A VOICE!!!!! They don't make em like this anymore.....

  • I love this song!!!!!!! Jay Black has a fantastic voice!!!!!!!

  • WHAT A VOICE! Thank you, my friend for the memories....

    John

  • You're welcome, my friend John-san!!

    Otaku (*^_^)/

  • Jay developed a severe gambling addiction.

Hope that he has finally conquered that demon.

  • a lot of artists from the fifties/sixties didnt take care of their money/income,and were often f...ed by their manager,or the irs

  • You're welcome, nightrover2112-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^_^)b

  • BEST VERSION EVER!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting. Great song. They don't write them like this anymore. Notice how there's only one verse to the song, it's still a fantastic song.

  • You're welcome, minkymott-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)b

  • @60otaku3 otaku...Another great one. Thanks for the great upload, along with all those memories. BgMs

  • If I was able to get my voice that high it means that at least one of my nuts has fallen off.

  • I have to agree that this song is one of my top 10 all-time favourites, still remember when it was a big hit in the 60s while I was in junior high. Jay Black has an incredible voice and this song still gives me goose bumps every time I hear it. Wonderful, wonderful!

  • Alot of people don't know that Jay Tranor was the singer on the record "She Cried" the song went to #18 on the billboard Charts Tranor had a good voicew but was replaced by Jay Black who took the group to success.

  • Comment removed

  • This song is just magic.

  • This must be my absolute favorite Song and Singer, what a Voice ..... what a Sound. THANKS .....

  • You're welcome, kiwistrudel-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • The David Whitfield/Montovani version from 1954 had three distinct verses and a chorus. Whitfield sang the chorus and last verse twice each. All Jay did was sing the same two verses over and over. I admit he sang well and this version is catchy, but why'd they have to dum it down so much?

  • good!

  • Jay Black is OK but the original Jay Arcadia is still the best

  • Love this song,Love Jay &the Americns

  • Jay Black vocals are so powerful

  • If you heard him speak now you'd be floored that he can still hit those notes!

  • Lets see Justin Bieber sing something this good. Never going to happen! Not even when the little punk hits puberty either.

  • This song is just beautiful. Imagine that punk Justin Bieber trying to sing this.

  • Imagine Elvis covering this. Wooow.

  • @born912 Or Roy Orbinson but they would have had to pull out all all the stops to match Jay Black on this one. One of the best vocalist ever. This rubbish today is no match at all. Go listen to P.J Proby "Whats Wrong With My World" and Tom Jones "Till" Some fine vocal work.

  • My all-time favorite Jay & the Americans song. I could (and do) listen to it over...and over...and.....over. Excellent sound quality on your video posting. Thank you for sharing!

  • You're welcome, whiteypetals-san!!

  • One of my favourite backing tracks of all time - plus fantastic vocals by, was it Jay Traynor?.

  • That's right, was known as "Jay Black" which is his stage name.

    Otaku3 (^_^)b

  • @60otaku3 It's not Jay Traynor singing on this record.

  • Jay Traynor left the group after "She Cried" made a hit in 1962.

Consequently this song was sung by second lead singer Jay Black.

    Otaku3 (^_^;)

  • @60otaku3 jay traynor is now with the tokens. Jay black is no longer with the Americans. they now have a new Jay, and I am with The Mystics

  • I only wanted to tell you the fact that Jay Black sang this song, am not much interested what they're doing now.

    ...Otaku3

  • @child1959 Where can you get the backing track for this?

  • @child1959

John "Jay" Traynor, the original lead, had left the group before this track was recorded. David Blatt, known as "Jay Black", is singing lead on Cara Mia. Another group member on this track is Kenny Vance (pictured top center). He currently performs this song with the group "Kenny Vance and The Planotones". A live performance from 2009 is on YouTube (uploader sepennwebs).

  • You're welcome, lakotastyle-san!!

    Otaku3 (^o^)/

  • Great song. Not many voices could pull this one off. Orbison could have, but I can't think of anyone else. Thanks for sharing!

  • This song came out the year my girl friends and I went into the service. out of the 6 of us 3 were killed as nurse in the Marine corps in Viet Nam. When it was all over the last 3 met at the train station where we all left and we sang this song while we were walking down the platform. We never went back to that platform again. God rest Ann, Maria, Josie

Girls this song is for you.... You will live forever in our hearts..we swear.....

  • i like it very much but gene pitney may sing it better...may be

  • @johnny9022 this version is more lively beat than gene pitney. but i like gene's voice..for me they both are good

  • I first heard this song in the TV movie Gotti which I like a lot and I love this song.

  • @Shagrat65 yeh they play it when jonny comes home from prison...

  • @crackernumber2 It was Gotti's favourite song.

  • @fenerbache13 it was, gotti and black liked to drink and bet on the horsies. Jay sang this at Gotti JR wedding.

  • When I first heard this years ago I thought he sounded just like Roy Orbison. I LOVE IT!!! Thanks for the memories.

  • @TheAnn1948

    ...1965 was a good year, i swear.

    this voice ... unbelieveable.

  • @ADMDO1965 Are you from the beautiful country of Japan?

  • @TheAnn1948 No, i am from grermany, dortmund

  • Often mused, what if Jay Black and Jackie Wilson ever did a duet together. Two of the most pure voices of the roll&roll era. It really would have been something.

  • this was john gotti's fav song... he had black preform this live at his sons wedding. They were gambling buddies.

  • Outstanding.

  • All-time Cassic from Summer of '65; I was 18 y/o, handsome, invincible, & I knew I'd always be young & immortal. Wolfsky9, 64 y/o.

  • the vocal is just so damn good.

  • My favourite pop song of all time. Period.

  • Just imagine someone else trying to remake this song. God forbid. There was only one Jay Black.

  • @magicimagellc Better yet, imagine a young Jay Black auditioning on American Idol. What would Simon have to say.

  • @magicimagellc his jaw would drop in front of the world, Paula would yell Touchdown at the very top of her lungs, and Randy would say something in the vicinity of , "You F@#&ing killed it dawg!!!!"

  • This song always runs chills up and down my arms. It sounds extra good on YouTube!

  • awsome song he voice Oh How Wonderful *O*

  • one of the best noices around.how jay black went bankrupt is beyond me,this is aan will always be one of my fav.songs.thanks for posting it

  • @hants21

    big hit record in 1965

  • @hants21

There should be an eleventh commandment:

THOU SHALT NOT PISS OFF THE IRS.

Not only did he go BK, but the IRS also took seized his 'Jay and the Americans' rights.

  • One word to describe this song: PERFECT!!!!!!!

  • better than gene pitney's :P to me.

  • @DrunkenPiano

amazing voice these five guys are!

  • @thefirefighter2011 Definitely!!!!!!

  • Thank you, 798389-san!!

    Otaku3 d(^_^)b

  • That is quite the high note in the beginning of the song.

  • This is Hall of Fame greatness.

  • I think Roy Orbison could have done this song very well

  • Too bad Jay Black and Jackie Wilson never sang a duet together. What a pair of magnificent voices.

  • This song and the voice of Jay Black still gives me goose bumps what a beautifull voice . Thank You for posting this wonderfull song

  • You're welcome, firebird73ful-san!!

    Otaku3 (*^o^)b

  • @firebird73ful

I second that emotion! Jay's powerful voice would give goosebumps to anyone! If he & his group were any cooler, they'd be frozen! Strictly from wowsville, daddy-o !!!

  • This guy has the voice to do opera.

  • Fantastic. Too Bad Mainstream Oldies Radio Don't Play Songs Like this anymore.

    This Song is Fantastic.

    Jay Black's Voice is Fantastic.

    Thank you

  • You're welcome, TL250Rider-san!!

    Otaku3 (^_^)/

  • @TL250Rider That's because it is not on a playlist. You might hear the same song 2 or three times in a 24 hour span. What gets me is that they claim the opposite and go ahead and play the song. Kind of like they are moking people who do not appriciate thier format!

  • This is my favorite Jay & the Americans' song! I love it!

  • That voice could be mistaken for Roy Orbison!

  • @joeyjeep1231... i can see that, great voice
