  • Cool video. I just got a 5" Meade w goto. Might put link to your wobsite in the description.

  • @qmriis Hi - thanks but that sites down - try home .freeuk .com/m.gavin/ cnlinks. html [removing gaps!]

  • Great vid I envy your observatory!

  • I bought myself a compass and did the alignment in a heartbeat.. thnx.. sometimes the simplest of answers is the best answers.

    Greetings AJ

  • hi, I am quite a new user of the meade etx70at computertelescope and was wondering if you could help me out... Could you help out with the alignment of the telescope? please email me or maybe you could make a short film how to? thnx a bunch I am member of your feed

  • @Alphamarketingsoluti Thanks - may do an "alignment vid" sometime but do a search of YouTube for this - there's sure to be a vid or two that does.

  • No sorry,

I meant what imaging software are you using to process the photo in the video.

    Thanks

  • Oh - Starlight Xpress s/ware that came with camera as demoed in vid with just a few clicks;-).

  • Hi,

may I ask what imaging software you are using in this video.

    Thanks

    Lee

  • Fantastic! I've just aquired an ETX 80 I can't wait to use my Meade LPI with it. The scope is yet to see First Light.

  • Enjoy your new scope;-)

  • Dear uplaoder, I see you are pretty into this.

I'm amateur, interested in astronomy. I don't want to pay much for my 1st telescope + I live in the city. What you think about Meade DS-2130 ATS-LNT? I know it's probably uncompareble with those you have but I found it pretty cool, GoTo function would be really fancy, price is OK with me too (€445). I just want to know if the optics (in this case mirrrors) aren't total crap. I would like to observe detailed Jupiter, Saturn's rings etc.

    Thank You

  • Hi - not familiar with this scope but entered "DS-2130" in Youtube query box to view users' videos with this scope which seems fair;-)

  • Extremely amateur question here:

Can you record a video of these galaxies and star clusters as you view them, or do you always have to take long exposure photographs and that is the only way to really see them this well?

If you had something like a 16" lightbridge with ample aperture and all the right camera/computer equipment would you ever be able to record these celestial bodies live?

I'm guessing the answer is no, but I figure what is the harm in asking.

What is the reason we can't?

  • Regretably the human eye is pretty duff at night but the Malincam video-cam outperforms it with full colour deepsky images with a few seconds exposure via big scopes and shown on a regular tv.

  • So, only photography is possible? You cannot film live footage?

I just think it would be awesome to be able to record a view such as those in your video live as the telescope sees it.

Come on, we are the human race, we should be able to tackle this one!

    thanks for the reply

  • Sorry there ain't enough light coming from dark outer space [which is why astronomer work at night]. Anyway why video @ min 25 frames/sec when my tiny ETX-70 PLUS CCD vastly outperforms the eye in a few seconds camera exposure;-0

  • Yeah, I have no doubt that a camera with a long exposure will outperform the human eye when it comes to astrophotography.

I was just wondering (hoping) that maybe there was a way to get live footage of what you see through your telescope with the same quality as a long exposure somehow. Apparently, my hopes were false.

I think it would be a great thing to have the ability to watch these galaxies, stars, and celestial phenomena as they occur. I hope someday we can.

  • what can you make those dew things out of? i couldnt understand you.

  • My commentary says its made of [a piece of black] card taped together [along the seam] - hope that helps;-)

  • Just by looking your video my interest on astrophotography grow. Thank you for the video and pictures.

  • Nice pictures, thanks.

  • Thanks for sharing. I'm considering a telescope compatible with the SkyVoyager iPhone app. They list several compatible telescopes so I'm trying to get a feel for which is best value for money.

  • Good luck in your venture and keep us posted!

  • Thank you for showing your setup. What software are you using in the tutorial?

  • Hi-I'm using the Starlight Xpress camera's control sware [that autostacks subexposures to just short of saturation level] - it also contains processing sware too and finish off with PaintShopPro - hope that clarifies.

  • Thank you - told me what I need. Good work with your setup. I'll wait for next installment.

  • Shame about your observatory - hope it gets rebuilt soon;-))

  • Great job.

Ooh, it's a cool observatory. We had one near where i am and then it was blown down by this great storm. The autumn night was real bad, electricity was cut off too.

  • fantastic pictures, thanks.

  • Many thanks for your interest;-)

  • Any advice for a green horn ?

I'm thinking about getting the autostar suite so that I can use my laptop.

Any tips you can give would be very much welcome !!

  • Damn!

That is one nice set up not to mention nicely edited. Excellent upload, thanks :)
