I think the problem that arises is somewhat logistical. Collectivism tends to be theoretically impossible and thus disastrous. In practice you always end up with a controlling agent/elite (like a Politburo or Queen ant). That's just totalitarianism. I don't know if technology could solve this problem. I don't know enough about "emergent behavior" and "distributed intelligence".

Where did you hear about the crystal thing? I think I saw it in a physic-docu called "what the blip do we know", but no real physicists i've met respects that movie at all, so I thought it was bullshit along with the rest.
If mind can affect matter like that, at-a-distance, then I at least need some good evidence. It's a very radical claim.
I do agree on some intuitive level, and think you draw the right conclusions about the future nonetheless.I think, the individual as we know it can't last

I can see y physcists (NOT quantum theorists) wouldnt like that movie: too 'in the air'. They leave alot up to intuition and the belief that our minds have more control over our bodies than mere external happenings.
You should check out the books Dancing Wu Lei Masters and the Tao of Physics for the evidence. It's all been experimented b4 we just don't yet know what it implies, yet

Good choice, yes he is confident but he is also egoist: he claims to be me, you, everyone when I'd prefer he didn't pretend to speak for me; it puts me in a bad, soupy, light.
You are right though there is a hard-to-define difference, but I'm not sure those "I, myself, my perspective, my soul" people, could untie this knot.
Ego is not necessarily selfish/bad, but this 2012 thing may not achieve itself except as an illusion from internet & cellular phone adverts titled "connecting together".

In the book "The Diamond Age" by Neal Stephenson, there is a colony of people called "Drummers" who have developed a hive consciousness ("distributed intelligence"), using human brains interconnected through nanotechnological messengers. It's an amazing book.
There will always be collectivists AND individualists.
I've never read about "swedenborg's heaven", but it reminds me of Ray Kurzweil's "technological singularity".

I think the problem that arises is somewhat logistical. Collectivism tends to be theoretically impossible and thus disastrous. For example, it's logically and physically impossible for everybody to control an equal portion of everybody else. In practice you always end up with a controlling agent/elite (like a Politburo or Queen ant). That's just totalitarianism. I don't know if technology could solve this problem. I don't know enough about "emergent behavior" and "distributed intelligence".

Very good point, like I mentiond: will the power be put in the right hands? Are there a 'few good men' who will be given the blessing/curse of having more power over your emotions than you do yourself? It seems that this gift MUST be given to the shamans who have reincarnated enough to know right from wrong "thoughts" - but thats just a theory

I saw that water crystal experiment in the film "What the Bleep do we know". It's quite interesting if thoughts can do that to water. I think 2012 will be more like a new beginning rather than an ending. :)

Thoughts can't do that. It's pseudoscience. Sorry, but that guy isn't conducting valid scientific research, he's scamming people. We do not have magical powers over water crystals... and the guy is a scumbag for leading people do believe that we do.

I'm just going to be honest with you simon:
When given the choice between learning actual science, knowledge, information and learning pseudoscience/fantasy, I choose science every time. I spent much of my life escaping into the fantasy realms of mysticism and pseudoscience. It was a waste of years. Nowadays, I am pursuing a relationship with reality, and reality is amazing. Real science is about 1,000,000 times more interesting than fake science, and reality is way better than fantasy.

D4. You are just uneducated. It's not about fantasy. It's simply about the power of thought.. It is much more scientific that we have ever given it credit for. The credit it any less than what we are beginning to realize, would be to simplify it. Some people prefer it that way.
I see that guitaoist speak a lot regarding the philosophy of the new quantum scientific principle of Holism.

There is nothing about quantum mechanics that implies magic or non-local consciousness. Such "interpretations" are nothing more than the latest incarnation of the "argument from ignorance". Whereas we used to have the "God of the gaps", we now we have "consciousness of the Gaps". It's the same fallacy with a new twist. Wherever there is a gap in or limit to scientific understanding, people will just make up whatever they want to believe (because they can not handle the unknown).

I thought the subject here was ultimately the supposed power of the mind to affect matter remotely (such as with water crystals).
So when you speak of "evidence", I don't know for what the evidence you speak of is for. All I only know is that this thread started out being about water crystals.
If you're simply talking about brain-computer interfaces, then I certainly support and believe in that.
If you're talking about magic, then I don't.

I mentioned what the bleep because it has Dr Stuart Hammeroff in it, a fact which raised that films credibility a small notch in my view.
As for the water molecules, Im skeptical but it doesnt violate the principles of the model im considering at the moment so it might be correct.

For me the most insightful thing in what the bleep was the part where the girl realises that the bloke is not the husband, and in doing so realises that the patterns she expects to see in reality might not be correct, and are influenced by her train of thought.
Well I dont know if she had that realisation, but it looks like that was what they were trying to imply was happening, but it could just be me.

Oh yeh, I agree magic is nothing more than slight of hand and misdirection, but.. and its a big BUT... that doesnt mean the interrelation between conciousness and reality is pseudo-science or mystical hocus-pocus.
The theory of everything must describe conciousness or it is inherantly incomplete.
To me, conciousness is like the keystone of a bridge, the part which removed causes everything else to collapse.
