its a 6L71 and its only turing about 1500rpm ,all 2-stroke detroits are designed to rev high it keeps from sludging the slobber boxesand they make their power on the high end.if you lug a detroit constantly you will dramatically shorten its life
@detroitphil I had a 671 detriot with a bower on a old michigan/clark loader 175b I believe. It screamed just like that and sounds like I was going 120 mphs but more like 5 mph lol. i was never impressed with the power of all 3 detriots i owned. including a 6cyl in my 1981 international s1700 and the 6.5 8 cyl in my 1995 chevy 3500HD
Is that a straight six (6L71)or a V six (6V71) or something else? The hood looks a little short for an inline 6-71. The truck sounds great. Probably sets off car alarms often.
Both the 6-71 and 6V-71 were available for the Fleetstar "A" series for much of the line's existence.
The 6V-71 was canceled as soon as the Fleetstar was to be replaced on April 25, 1977 by the S-series Class 8 rigs. Although the 6-71 remained the standard engine for the heavy-duty S-series, the line of Detroit Diesels was extended to three basic models; the other two being the 8V-71 and the 6V-92.
The sound of that thing alone would attract LOTS of attention on the road. All diesels today sound like the old Maxidynes but quieter. This sucker sounds like a race car.
sounds like a geo metro on alcohol? obviously your too retarded to recognize the sound of a two stroke. id be willing to bet the 6-71 has 4x the power of any piece of shit truck you have. if you even have aq truck.
hey fuckstick horsepower dont mean shit these things rev like hell to get their power tourqe is what you want so go back to mechanics first month then come troddeling back fucker
I remember a mine in Western Australia, back in '73, the buses to take the shift from town to the mine, one had a 8v-71 , not much of a silencer....you could hear the guys coming back from shift. Great sound.
My brother once drove an open-cab 1969 Seagrave tiller ladder truck that sounded EXACTLY like this truck. You did not need a siren at all, plus the tractor had a 2-speed rear in it for speed. If you heard this truck coming you KNEW it was ALL BUSINESS.
In my opinion, the 6-71 in these Fleetstars should sound more like the 1950s GMC and the two Peterbilts in the "Tombstone Run 2009" video posted by straightstack. Watch that video at the timepoints of 6m57s, 7m10s, and 7m33s.

you gus are all nuts cummins sounds better detroit sounds better you want any engine that will always sound the best and be on top are the mack engines those things have beautiful sounds at idle and driving
i didnt say anything except that these engines although very nice do not compare to the mack engines its just my opinion and your entitled to yours so easy buddy!
i have a proof that detroit sounds better.. lok in my fav.. there is 1 video that is called : notre dame du nord, EDITION TIBRIN. and there is another 1 called :mad dog vachon its a orange western star all of those motors are the same. 8v92. and the white 1 in EDITION TIBRIN is the 1 that the orange had..
It's a 6-71 and nothing but in the case of the 2070A. 2070As could also have 6V-71s.

Imagine if an MCI coach with a 6V92TA engine sounded like this.
