  • If i should die, can this be my anthem!

  • I love the original Carter Family. Brings back so many memories. Thanks for your posts.

  • great!

  • Immeasurable Great Post!! A True Treasure!!

  • I wish to go back there in those times.

  • @paulhenrydallaire you black? if yes then you would not want to trust me...

  • I always loved the Carters.

  • It really is amazing that the myth of Al Jolson having recorded this number first is still maintained. As DelTangBrav points out, Jolson did not make his recording until 1950 (and I got into a lot of trouble with an Elvis magazine publisher some years ago for maintaining that!). For more background information on "Are You Lonesome Tonight," please see my Elvis Presley, The Originals site.

  • Truly wonderful, thank you.

  • Sara Carter looked a bit like my grandmother did.

  • this is not the original version...but the original version was recorded by Al Jolson in 1927....

  • @barnaba1964 Exactly

  • @barnaba1964 Al Jolson didn't record it until 1950 - There were several versions before Al's. One possibly in 1926 (no known copy exists) but several definite ones in 1927. Henry Burr,s 1927 (not the first) is one that is on youtube

  • WHAT A SOUND. HEAVENLY SOUND

  • according to maybelle carter these pics were taken in 1928 to promote their first appearance on their new radio show and to record some songs. Thats where they lived and the studio photographer came out to take them. maybelle had the bluest eyes you ever saw and she passed them on as well. too bad they aren't in color. thanks for posting!!!

  • Mother Maybelle was a handsome woman with high cheek bones, wide set eyes, full mouth and strong chin. Just absolutely lovely.

  • man i fucking love the carter family

  • brilliant video presentation

  • @ajweberman Thank you.

  • @ajweberman

I agree....very well presented about AP's love for Sara....he never got over losing her...

  • WRONG , Give yourself a little search back at 1911.

  • Genuinely the most beautiful thing I've ever heard.

  • What year was this??? thanks for uploading this... ;-)

  • @HRVAT1975

The Carter Family recorded this version in 1936.

  • camera has to be one of the top 5 inventions of all time.

  • Loved the photos and the song. Thanks.

  • Elvis and the Carters both did their interpretation and both did a fine job.
