Does anybody know what year Shocktober started? Now that Channel 11 is going back to being called WPIX, (as well as bringing back a slightly different Circle 11 logo) maybe they might bring back Shocktober as well :)
wtcvidman, I believe the WPIX announcer's name is Doug Paul. We started hearing him on Channel 11 in the mid-80's, but his voice didn't really become prevalent on the till around 1988. He is still "the Voice of WPIX" to this day, although we don't hear him as much as in his heyday.
I think it's his voice that says WPIX at the end of every ad/promo for the shows on it that I've been hearing recently. It sounds like him, but slightly deeper. Maybe it's just all those years. But he definitely used to do voiceovers of WCW promos & events.
Now that Tribune & WPIX is under new management and ownership...maybe the will want to do some new voiceover with me? It was a great time. I voiced for them from late1984-early 1985 until 1998. Loved doing this SHOCKTOBER promo and of course, The Yule Log!
I have the Shocktober promo for 1990. Man, I loved those days of WPIX. I taped & still have Friday the 13th Part VI from 1990's Shocktober. They showed The Howling too along with many other movies (I think they had a movie every weekday & Saturday of October).
Goodness it's was that long ago.! I remember this, Do you know anything about the Creepy looking man-thing in the Movie Theather saying "We'll be seeing you"? I kinda remember him on some more Promo Commercials.
And do you know anything about WPIX's Halloweekend?
That's Tom Savani. He would annouce every 8pm movie on Shocktober. Ah man I miss those days. They have something Similar to Shocktober on AMC called monster vision but it doesn't even come close. Great times. Great times. Channel 11 turn to shit when WB took over.
Yes Channel 11 sucks when they started WB, They had a few good shows on the the WB,But back then WPIX was the network. I didn'y know AMC have a shockober, But they probably going to show movies not so scary.
I'm happy that I'm not the only one that remembers that. I remember when they used to show the Twilight Zone on WPIX!
Are you sure his name is Tom Savani? I tried looking him up to see what else he did and couldn't find him on the net. I remember hearing him announce all the movies that used to air on the channel. I also remember him announcing the WPIX news in the mid 90's as well as WCW Wrestling and many more things.
By the way, these are the movies featured in this spot: The Twilight Zone: The Movie A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors Cat's Eye Blade Runner Creepshow II Vamp Star Trek: The Motion Picture The Lost Boys Poltergeist Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI Critters Deadly Friend
Now this brings back memories. I remember seeing some of my first horror films on WPIX Channel 11 when I was a kid (I grew up in Queens, NY). Those were the good old days.
I remember a promo for the Exorcist where they ended with "the Power of Christ compells you" then the dude comes in and says THE POWER OF NEW YORKS MOVIE STATION!
they must have shown nightmare 3 before cause it must have been on the fist shocktober
89-90 cause i remember taping it..

They always showed Nightmare 3, 4, and 5. Never part 1 because that would air only on WNYW Channel 5.

Paul has a great voice, but he's not a local presence like Bill Biery or Ralph Lowenstein were for WPIX years ago.

This was 1993...its weird that sometimes promos and intros for things like this tend to be a lil more scary than the actual movies or shows...lol

What year was this?
Because I remember something like this, Back in the 1990's. They need to put these old movies back on t.v.

The monster blowing smoke is from "Twilight Zone: The Movie." It's some creature from a kid's imagination.

What's the monster blowing smoke before Freddy from?
fim67 4 years ago
Classic 1993 or so promo. WPIX's Kevin Wagner probably created this one...can't remember. Doug Paul is the voice-over.

This is from the early 90s when WPIX used to show horror movies very often like every Friday night.
