  • the greatest american band ever!

  • Stop the culture fascists ! Gema, bmi, emi, sony, warner ! WRITE your fasciast congressperson who sucks lawyer cock/pussy ,that puts great music in the hands of cunts ! Fuck em ! Please write these dumbasses !NO PBS on YOU TUBE !FUCK Google ! LETS FUCK THES PEOPLE ! != YEARS -PUBLIC DOMAIN FUCKERS !!! FUCK GAGA,RHINNANA !

  • not their best song but still an amazing one at that.

  • heavy!

  • memories of san beda high school in mendiola, manila 1970's

  • One of the best live bands of all time. Tighter than a 15 year old virgin. Too bad the original line-up was so short-lived.

  • すげえ、どうやって作ったんだろ

  • I cannot begin to imagine what life on the road with TWO drummers must be like! Even among musicians drummers are a curious lot, and between that and the equipment requirements all I can say is, hats off to the Allmans (as well as the Grateful Dead)!

  • Algo bien, esta es la buena musica...!!!

  • So much damn talent in one band--They don't make em like that anymore

  • @iceaxe56 Amen, nothing like Allman Bros. feel good music!

  • Duane had VERY large hands. That's why he could play like he did. I remember his hand shake. VERY strong hands!

  • @MrPhotodoc Really? Reckon it had nothing to do w/ Soul~Spirit !? Get real foo

  • Timeless music.....for people who know GREAT MUSIC.......

  • 改めてツイン・ドラムの威力を見せつける、強力映像、1970オールマンズ、"エリザベス・リードの追憶”~すげぇライヴ!!

  • Every one of those guys playing were true stars. Duane of course was best. Berry was no slouch. Dickey was amazing. The drummers, J and B were tireless pros and Greg's voice was perfect for the group. What a great Band!

  • This song has more soul than all the shoes Nike has ever put out..damn - great post

  • get it allman bros

  • what kind of a shitty world are we living in when Bieber gets 1 000 000 views and this masterpiece only 400 000???

  • Duane on slide..NOTHING or noone is better man!! Seen them a few times did not sound like studio of course but wow and I'm old LOL seen Hendrix, et al, these guys rock!!

  • There will never be a better band.

  • I'd kill to have this full concert on DVD. Just AMAZING!

  • my dear skydog.. thanks for that

  • LOL @Skydog711. He's right. Disregard the Recording's Sound Quality and compare notes to Studio Versions or Not. Just TRY to find errors in this Live Version compared to just about ANY other band's live performances and as you can see -it's NOT A VILLY MANILLY -Type Trick.

... I've seen the Allman Bros TWICE and Both Times, they were SO NOTE-PERFECT (even if Not the studio version note-for-note) BUT, EVERY TUNE COULD HAVE BEEN RELEASED AS THE STUDIO VERSION. All Bros Quote:"Rap is Short 4 Crap"

  • i don t think we will ever see or witness another bunch of guys assemble like this and play again! music had to be on top not the business

  • a true gem right here

  • Watch the fill Jaimo does at 1:00, super tasteful !

  • So nice to see Duane , playing again, Thanks for posting

  • The people filming this for PBS were actually on loan from NFL Films and yes the framework is off. They should've filmed from the bottom up instead of top down. At least Duane isn't doing a G.E. Smith guitar face.

  • happy birthday, duane...

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY DUANE

  • Quite possibly on of the greatest album of all time. Rest in peace Duane and Berry.

  • 9 people apparently have no taste in music.

  • I always ask myself: Do I wish I was old enough to see them at the Fillmore or am I happy that I'm thirty-something and not in my sixties or seventies (no offense)? It's an honest thought. I don't have the answer. The Fillmore is now a Conestoga bank! Awful. Go check it out and you can still feel the energy. I am going to stop by on Sunday on my way to McSorley's! RIP Sky Dog and Bar! They were never the Allman Brothers without you two.Where is Betts? Man, I'm drunk.

  • @lawyerlarrry thanks for the info... did'nt know that The Fillmore East became a bank. And by the way, you did ask yourself an honest question. I'm in my mid 50s and just missed being able to watch Duane and Berry. As I got older though, I relish the memories of attending Allman Bros. concerts though the 70s and 80's up until the 90's. Dickey and Gregg had a major falling out years ago......they went there seperate ways.....To this day I'm not sure they're speaking

  • good

  • whoa, that is 100% classic right there I do believe. terrific find whoever did.

  • there aint a guitar slinger out there who hasnt jammed along with these guys on vinyl as well as on a cd

  • Aaaahhhh, the good ole days. I was there, sitting in the crowd that night with Bill Souda. Brings backs wonderful memories of my hippy days.

  • One of the best guitar players ever. The allman brothers jammed like no other jam band did before. RIP Duane Allman

  • @94ddare ...And Berry Oakley

  • @Luchia1602 O yeah I forgot about the bass player. What a weird coincidence that he died in a motorcycle accident as well

  • saw the allman bros in nov 1970 on campus at broward comm college--500 people there they played the same set as at the fillmore-duane woulda been king had he lived -clapton a close second

  • 24 years old ain't no age to die at - what a great shame he would undoubtably been one of the greatest ever.

  • @johnredpath we got cheated out of a lot of great music!

  • duane......some guitar players are so amazing....really dickey for that matter it oozes from their being like breathing or loving or fighting so intense

  • It was a sad day when he died and another one a year later. 40 years to get to now is a long time, I want to say it doesn't seem like it, but that aint true, and it for sure feels like it. Lot of pain in this world then and now and is good to hear music that can help carry you over,...over and through. Thank you for posting

  • I'm frustrated that I can't seem to do a thumbs up to many of the comments here, does anyone else have that problem? That said, these talented musicians wove a web of pure magic.

  • A bunch of guys who really, really know what they're doing.

  • Tighter than Dick's hat band.

  • Ah, that made my ears very happy!

  • i don't normally write these type comments, but whoever disliked this is a fucking idiot.

  • @skydog711 ..true story.

  • @skydog711 Agreed. If one hates passionate guitar playing or rock n;roll why were they even here? If you appreciate both, this is brilliant and there's no room for dispute, especially from about 5:40 on.

  • I agree. They probably did it to get us pissed!

  • @skydog711 I don't normally write these comments but I completely agree with you , Some of the most fantstic music ever created.

  • It is great to see many people appreciating the magnitude of this performance.

What is there truly to say about Dickey and Duane on this track but - WOW.

And yet to not respect the unity of this band that goes beyond the remarkable playing of lead guitarist is futlie - Here's to Berry, Butch, Jaimie and Greg as well.

    Thanks!

  • I think the crew that filmed this show was the same that filmed DEEP PURPLE on California Jam in April 6th, 1974.

The framework of the scenes (mostly of Duane) is equal of Ritchie Blackmore on that show: a crap pf shit.

  • this is the most beautiful song of all the songs that exist, period.

  • Awesome song. These guys were TIGHT! Dicky and Duane just wove magic around each other, and as a bassist myself, Berry Oakley was the bomb! When you added the keyboards and vocals of Greg and the fantastic percussion of Jaimoe and Butch Trucks it was almost too much to take in. This was the birth of Southern Rock and I love it to this day. Although Greg Allman took exception to the term. As he explained, "Rock was born in the South. Saying "Southern Rock" is like saying "rock rock." Timeless!

  • why do camera-people focus on guitarist's faces when the interesting stuff is going on below?!

  • @theclarkey100 I understand your frustration, but there's some pretty interesting shit happening above, too. I think it's interesting to see how a guitarist emotes when they play. You can find the tab for this, anywhere, if you look hard enough. You won't ever see his face, when he plays it, again.

  • @kneedeep1977 Point taken, kneedeep, we have to enjoy what remains ...but, not being a proper guitarist, I'm not interested in the tab - I am just fascinated by the way a genius such as Duane achieved those sounds, and how easy he made it look. In COMBINATION with the emotion evident on his face, that would complete the experience! I don't want to see the drummer pulling faces while a mind-boggling run of virtuoso guitar is happening

  • I guess the really talented people were in front of the cameras. Not behind them.

  • THE BEST

  • What is it about them? Artistry without ego. The captivating organ that defines but does not dominate the signature of the band (anyone notice this?), the magnificently matched drumming, the solid bass, and the fair interplay of guitars.

  • Excellent. Thank you for your efforts. Appreciated bro.

  • 貴重な映像ですね。デュアンはスライドじゃなくても、ぶっ飛んでますね、

  • @tamura1962 best comment ever

  • best comment ever

  • This original lineup...my alltime favorite band. Only got to see Duane once before his accident but man, I'm so grateful for that night.

  • @alexlovesyouaton Yes, you are a lucky one. The ABB is a generational tradition, and years from now kids will love their music but will not be able to see the band (or what's left of it) live. Derek, Warren, Oteil, and Marc will be around for a while though, so enjoy them while you can!

  • hell yea

  • The jam of all jams just keep on playing it my brothers

  • Righteous !!!

  • :) ty

  • Duane was great but don't forget Dickie.

  • What a band. Magic.

  • I recall reading somewhere that by the time the Allmans took the stage at Fillmore East, they had performed live something like 400 times over the past two years.

  • It would be cool if the new bands could improv like this band, lost art, they have to listen to their hearts and thier hands and to the Allman Bros. for the direction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!!, some one has to do it !!

  • What all "jam" bands wish they could do.

  • Absolute proof of perfection for a live performance. They're truly a once in a generation band. I'm lucky to have seen them in the early years. Outstanding!

  • 8 people wouldnt know sophisticated improvisational music if it bit 'em on the fuckin' ass.

  • Duane Allman is god!!

  • @ulisesbelloramos couldn't have said it better

  • Sorry, I was wrong. They opened with Don't Keep Me Wondering.

  • The ABB created a whole different style of music that was there for a short time, and after Duane's death it was never the same again. Listen to "Stand Back" on "Peach" album - one of the last songs Duane recorded - and it's obvious they were still exploring; it's unlike the rest of his slide work to that point. These guys were a force to be reckoned with. Unbelievable power and passion in their music. We will never see their like again.

  • By the way, this concert at the Fillmore cost me only two bucks, believe it or not. During the brief period of its exixtence I saw over 100 bands there, including Jimi's New Years Eve concert (first show, third row).

  • Well guys, I'm an oldtimer. I was there for this concert , with Van Morrison, The Birds and others I can't remember. In total I saw Duane with them three times. Here I believe they opened with Statesboro, then played Whipping Post (God its been awhile). Their stage dynamic was phenomenal, better than Hendrix (my favorite, who I saw four times). Although a terrific guitarist, Duane was very giving while sharing solos with Betts. I saw them again soon after Duane's death. Never the same.

  • Such a huge double loss.

  • Some additional background. 9/23/70 was the US release date of Idlewild South. It was also Coltrane's birthday. This was about 4 weeks after meeting Clapton, a little less than 2 weeks after the initial tracks on Layla were down. Incredible performance. Early development of the LATFE solos. Each stands on its own though. Duane's articulation and narrative genius is jaw dropping. Incredible band of souls.

  • Classic!

  • I challenge all the rednecks that think Skynyrd was better than the Allman Bro's to listen to this song and then tell me how Skynyrd was better. Nothing against Skynyrd, I love them as well as Southern Rock, but a lot of fans of Skynyrd are ignorant and don't know anything about music.

  • @gajda1984 Really? As fans of both I think this comment is a little narrow. If anyone even knows who Skynyrd is these days they have some recognition of what "music is".

  • @brianremington i am a fan of both as well, though, anyone who understands music will say that the Allman Bros are better and more flexible musicians.

  • @gajda1984 I'll agree but only in the sense that the Allman's were more pioneers and blended a lot jazz styles. But don't sell LS short as many of their early records also explored blugrass, country and blues (as did ABB). I will never say one is better than the other because that's personal choice, like saying the Outlaws are better than LS or ABB. It's a non-comparrison. They are all different, and very good.

  • @andrewpersonful i'll agree with your statment as well. Skynyrd's background is a bit different than the Allman Bros. both are heros of American style rock during the British invasion.

  • Duane, a guitar visionary Sky Dog lives on, There A'int No Such Thing As Dying, "GA".The Allmans, a Tour De Force. When the Allmans and the Dead played together a better show did not exist.

  • saw ABB in Atlantic City in 71 when I was 16 & fell in love...fan forever!!

  • I didn't know that Omar Epps' dad was so good at drums

  • Heard this on many nights in an Olds 98 convertible with the top down, pulling tabs and expanding our minds. Damn near wore out Live at the Fillmore on 8 track.

  • The ABB always went beyond genre and marketing labels. Jazz and blues and rock and country all had their place. This piece is very jazz-oriented.

  • @WillInNewHaven : you're so right. The great ones of any era don't pay much attention to genre or the rules, they just play. ABB defies categorization more specific that "awesome".

  • thank god for you tube and those who put these videos on,

  • awesome drumming, not to mention duane.

  • @equallyeasilyfuqyou

Yeah, name the member of ABB who wasn't a terrific instrumentalist. DMB and Bela Fleck are in the ballpark, but not many bands in history had this kind of array of talent. Stunning.

  • Love it, thanks. Have to show this to my daughter so she can hear what real music played by real musicians sounds like.

  • 8 people are deaf

  • We´ll miss you 4ever skydog

  • nice

  • Not a fan of THE ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND, I heard EAT A PEACH and LIVE AT THE FILLMORE EAST for the first time recently and was thrown back. The music is rich and full. The passion in the music and the way the instruments are flawlessly played impressed me.

  • @Zrock0076

Many people consider the Allmans "Southern Rock". Some of it maybe, but this classic among classics couldn't be any further from southern rock.

  • @turcoloco57 jazz fushion really.

  • @turcoloco57 they were labeled southern rock in the 70s. they are a true blues band today.

  • people who like this Hate Kiss .

Like slutty chicks (not too slutty ")

Like Tequila , but have upgraded to Agave .

Like Disco , when no ones around .

Like big blocks either Chevy of mopar .

Want to joins Hells Angels , but too fat or scared of meth .

Hate shorted sacks , I want what I payed for mofo .

Want to hump every Asian chick he sees .

  • @franz909 Like Skynyrd, definitively.

  • Who the fuck was the idiot at PBS that said, "Nah man, dont air this one."

  • just for the record dickey betts wrote this song and thats him on the twanger solo the whole time

  • THIS MUSIC IS SOOOOO GOOOOOD!!!!!! IT IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN TODAY'S MUSIC LIKE jUSTIN BIEBER AND LADY GAGA AND REBECCA BLACK!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow, dude. If anything says "smelly hippie"...that would be you my friend. Jeesh.

  • hi kenny

  • This is THE Allman bros!

  • Dickie Betts is a BEAST

  • This is priceless!!! Thank you very much for posting this vid I really do appreciate it !!!

  • Possibly the Omega Point of music in the modern era.

  • AWESOME STUFF for sure! ....but are you all conveniently forgetting that we ALWAYS had good and bad music with us. Lets see , donny and marie ,Monkees , leif garrett, shaun and david cassidy , barry manilow , etc, etc...dont make out like we didnt have crap...thats just too easy . Damn governments need to support young musos ...instead of building more football fields and baseball and basketball facilities -how about providing council run rehearsal rooms ?

  • Anybody know some other bands today of this caliber?

  • @RobZiak phish has been getting it done for the last 20+ years.

  • @RobZiak gov't mule? warren haynes is the guitarist for the allman bros and g.m. they do a lot of covers live. deffinitely better live than in the studio.

  • man, those fine drummers are still playing strong with ABB today

  • @glendablue and the keyboard players' still doin' fine, too! :D

  • this is music

  • this is music

  • As artists and musicians, these guys are now our creative forefathers so to speak. Our role now is to step out and innovate some new forms of music.

  • Greatest Live Lp ever, great to see film of the Allman Bros.thanks

  • the lick starting at 7:17 is beyond amazing, and its beyond amazing how 8 people can dislike this. IDIOTS!

  • @petervankan That just isn't true. The morally wrong part is true, but people did feel that both jazz and then rock 'n' roll sucked. The prime example of that being Frank Sinatra, who famously felt nothing but disdain for rock 'n' roll. Maybe they felt that way simply because it was black music and people refused to listen to it. But how is that any different than what people think of real rap today? Sure rap is violent, but that's because rappers live violent lives. Real rap is modern blues.

  • @TheJuunit21 I'm finally inclined to believe your claim. Hip-hop artists (those who originated the stuff in the 80s) did the same thing the ABB, the Brit invasion, etc did in the 60s-imitate/cover old blues/jazz, and add their own adaptations to the music. As far as I can tell, all hip-hop stemmed from P-Funk (amazing), who similarly did the same as the ABB. ABB/ & Funkadelic were born in 1969 and basialy played the same stuff- psychedelia-infused blues/jazz.

  • How the hell can there be 8 dislikes on this. Maybe one of the ABB members stole there girlfriend? Can't be they don't like the video.

  • @Django I know and it really could spell the death of pure rock and roll.I the junk I hear today has no soul,no originality just the same head bangind lyrics over andover..Duane was original,he was able to see past grinding out the same old assembly line music.

  • I love Duane. I go to visit his and Berry's grave every year. I'll sit on Liz Reed's grave and listen to one of the many versions of this tune and just thank god for ABB

  • @bobandzeb amen! i do the same!

  • @bobandzeb Some people would call that creepy...but not me. Sky Dog fucking wails on.

  • @bobandzeb Amen.

  • is there a dvd for this?

  • I am not a guitar player, I have no clue about high-gain (or low-gain) sounding guitars. I am just a simple music fan enjoying in good music and I say WOW!!!!!

I am listening to such music for approx 35 years now and I still LOVE IT!

  • Open your ears. Shut your mouths.

  • @HarlequinVid YOU GOT THAT S%#@T RIGHT

  • @HarlequinVid U nailed it Open your ears & shut your mouth. To the musicians of 2day I say, "Shut your pie holes & play". I don't want 2 hear about what politicians U support beause most musicians live in their own world (which is what makes them better),not in the real world so your political beliefs have no basis in reality.

  • @HarlequinVid ... Ride ON!!!

  • @HarlequinVid man if I haven't heard that enough times from my parents

  • @HarlequinVid open your ears and shut your mouths, i totally agree, righteous ! ! ! A JAM DOESN'T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THIS.

  • beeroosterm - good comment on the "martyr" affect on Duane's legacy. Curious on your background. I'm professional GA-NY musician closely associated with friends of Duane. Steve Morse is an associate. I assure you that Steve, who played Duane's guitar (only living guy to do so) felt Duane's talent was far beyond the normal or natural - the definition of preternatural. Duane fathered high-gain sound, and only one living person knows how he did it. I think your view is the extreme minority.

  • Come on cameraman I wanna see some shots of Dickeys fingers!!!!!!

  • didn't call him skydog for nothin'...

  • Duane Allman is not measured in terms of today's music or yesterday's music. Duane is in the pantheon because he is the paradigm. Duane was not merely a musician, but a vital link in the continuum from Bach to the present. Those types of cats are exceedingly rare. Duane was autodidactic and only 24 when he died. His ability as a musician was simply preternatural. That is the context in which to view his work.

  • @whipleather I disagree. Duane Allman is in the guitar pantheon as much for being dead as having great chops. There was nothing preternatural about his skills - of course he was just getting started...

  • @beeroosterm Fillmore didn't get popular because Duane was dead, but because it was great. Duane got chosen over tons of other potential choices to be on records by people like Aretha Franklin at Muscle Shoals because he had a combination of fire and focus in his playing that was and is rare. Very few people play with the intensity he did AND make it all count.

  • @mbruns59 I agree he was amazing. I just didn't like the word "preternatural". It implies an ability that exists outside nature or is inexplicable by ordinary means - in other words, supernatural. That characterization takes away from his talent and hard work, which I tend to resent.

  • Simply amazing ... still.

  • In obvious omage to Allman's we went to a local graveyard after a night of drinking and other things. Only problema was Elizabeth Reed was NOT buried in New Jersey. At least we checked...

  • awesome relaxing to the ears rock on

  • What kind of fucking idiot would vote this down???? I guess you douchebags are in love with Vanilla Ice....Fucking idiots..

  • @wellcraft28 chill dawg

  • good to see Duane!

  • fandiddlyastic! Duanes in here!

  • @ambientgreg You do realize that's exactly what the older generation said about rock and roll right? That it sucked. And guess what? The older generation said the same thing about jazz when it first started. Rap doesn't suck, it's just different. Although I will give you that most mainstream stuff at the moment is pretty bad.

  • @TheJuunit21 The verdict on rock and roll and jazz wasn't that is sucked, but that there was something morally wrong with it. Because it transended barriers.

Todays popular music isn't tansending anything, It's just more of the same, only more vulgar and empty every year.

  • cool

  • wouldn't it be possible to contact PBS and ask them if they still got the tapes?

  • OMG!!!! Is that footage of God and Jesus at 4:20!!!

  • you know billy bob thronton's got to be a pretty cool mother fucker, when he calls the allman bro's, his favorite band. know, if only angelina..........well, never mind.....

  • @brainsareus stupid me,i meant now, instead of know..........

  • Great song, beautifully played and very nicely recorded. As to bringing Duane and Jimi back, we need to just keep playing their music...pickers like Derek Trucks and Buddy Guy are doing a lovely job...Thanks for the video

  • 8 dislikes come on

  • @bobmths yea that is seriously fucked....... how can anyone dislike raw talent + live music?!?!?!

  • ohhh fuck that so tripie meeen :D

  • Duane que descanse en paz, El Clasico Erick y Duane con sus Dereck and the Dominoes.
