Nietzsche was a madman when it comes to religion. But his life was tragedy. He broke up with Wagner, he loses faith in God, he goes mad, and now this. I feel bad for the genius.
All of you are mislead & lost! I cannot imagine a human being rejecting the belief the the Lord. The demons really have a strong hold with non-believers. If the Lord truly did not exist, no one would be able to live, or breathe. My life wouldn't be beautiful & fulfilling if wasn't for the Lord, my husband & our soon-to-be expected baby. Surely we all have problems but with prayer & faith, we can overcome. The Lord is coming soon, I cannot imagine what non-believers will even say on that day.
@elvaelvirababe - Niesztche admired and despised christianity. The irony of his texts attest to that and its easy to understand his thought on a superficial degree. Niesztche was an atheist, but he grasp to a devastating extent the consequences of that. That been said, You are obviously a dangerous fanatic.
@frogbuster20 Sadly, yep not quite dangerous since she just seems naive, but it's just another protestant/pentecostal/jehovah's witness or whatever type of milleniarist . Nietzsche is complex and shouldn't be read by simple minds. Especially atheists since they often can't really see how far the pit is while they exalt him (this is just a less fanatic say of saying the same thing).

@fishakafish - That is the type of individual he thought about. But I doubt that you or I come close to being a superman. Niesztche tought us precisely the contrary: We do not own ourselves. Our pschic world s determined by history. The 'european' individual endures this repression and translates it in a realm of 'truth', to serve his own resentement and nourrish his will to power. Convinced atheists who read Niesztche never get him (in all due respect)

ultimate truth is unknown, why dont you all respectthe film and the man and admit neither of you are right....i know one thing and that is i know nothing !socrates!
Greco-Buddhism, sometimes spelt Graeco-Buddhism, refers to the cultural syncretism between Hellenistic culture and Buddhism, which developed between the 4th century BCE and the 5th century CE
Definitely. It's a shame he's so often been taken out of context and misunderstood, especially with what the Nazi's did to twist the idea of the "Ubermensch."
If we're ever going to actualize a postmodern, egalitarian ideology we need his thoughts MORE than the teachings of Jesus. Hands fucking down.
And what would be like to actualize a 'post modern ideology'. At what point could you exclaim your success? The entire point of the vast majority of post modernist thought is that thinking in those terms is entirely pointless.
Fulfilling one drive leads to another. What's currently postmodern becomes modern.
That's not to say postmodernism is any less postmodern at that point, but the ideas characterizing the definition of the paradigm will have progressed as well.
So actualizing the modern postmodern ideology, that's pretty possible.
I agree that the paradigm will progress, but this is for me nothing like the idea of actualization. Actualization implies a state where someone can proclaim some sort of success. The best example being Marx's Communism.
All post modernism really is a genre of literature, that like all literature makes suggestions about how to run society, in the case of post modernism it's all vague relative claims. Nothing justifying the term actualization.
There's no way to be unique that isn't social. Your differences don't even exist without a "mediocre" comparison and mediocrity itself is the foundation of all which you may deem to be superior.
This was a mistake in Neitzsche's philosophy and one brought about by his own feelings of jealousy towards a populous which remained much happier and fulfilled than he ever was, though his isolation was the motivation for his rhetorical obsession. Ironic it's for the greater good I suppose...
thats a load of shit, the mass isnt happy, and if they are, they are happy wallowing in their mediocrity and resenting anyone better than them, and how do you know how happy Nietzsche was? he loved freindship and everything way more than the mass did, he just realized that the mass was nothing, it was a bunch of tools who would accept any values given to them
As my closing statement I'll say that you seem to be a hateful person, and as frustrating as it is to see many people going through life in a daze, I've never seen hatred as being a product of anything but fear.
Usually it's a fear or lack of a type of intimacy in one's own life. As fulfilling as it is to win an argument, I think that revealing the truth is most important.
haha, what closing statement? you never rebutted my last claim, and if it makes you sleep better at night thinking that i am a hateful person (even though you've never met me, and youre judging me solely on a youtube comment), i am the least hateful person on earth, what you peasants represent IS hate, you cant tolerate anything different than your filthy egalitarian views on life so you have to bring everyone down to your slavish level, so "reveal the truth" all you want, slave.
Poor Nietzsche, I think he is a wonder gift to humanity. But there are so many pests of human christianity that, well as there's the say never underestimate the power of huge dumb crowds. They only portray him bad. So he was right about people.
@mJCacc Nietzsche literally changed my life,....he's not simple doing thinking out of curiosity or for some hidden truth, that is why he is so wise, because above all he values life...but like he said, full is the earth of those to whom distance from life must be preached and this is why they hate him.
lol this movie is comical the actor that played nietzsche is terrible and dosn't look anything like him. nietzche would NEVER throw papers in someones face lol a joke and he wasnt mad that they ditched him he was mad that he let himself become atracted to those two idiots that went on to do nothing with their lives. That one guy gew up to be nothing more then a lacky for that scat lover sigmund
he was not an ATHEIST. first of all, dont take his writings up and around zarathustra not to serious, cause thats when his madness starts to take over, but look at the poem of his with the altar 'dem unbekannte gotte', the unknown got. & parabel: he said that WE killed god, and the madman in the parabel say'its to soon for my words'' we killed god IN OUR hearts. So Nietzsche said whats the next step ? how are we gonna fill this vaccuum ? I think nietzsche always believed, but was not religiuous
I would say that Nietzsche was pretty close to being an Atheist if he wasn't. He praises Spinoza, who finds that nature is god. "I can only worship a god that dances." He also says that the overmen will replace god. God is nothing other than what has been created by man for his crappy morality. Get rid of both, and create something better.
He was pretty lucid during the writings of Zarathustra, and his mental breakdown did not come until years after it was finished.
i don't like the word 'atheist', it reminds me of vulgar positivists. nietzsche, to my mind, never really set out to depose god nor did he feel the need to dispute his existence. for nietzsche, god is besides the point, we have outlived him and we can no longer recover him.
deleuze said this beautifully once. i can't remember the text, but he wrote that god had already died when feuerbach and the left hegelians came to the fore, so nietzsche's proclamation is hardly a revelatory one. nietzsche's contribution is in telling us that god is entirely superfluous.
I checked, In 1898 and 1899 Nietzsche suffered from at least two strokes but I think that was after his collapsed.
Of course, the idea that god didn't exist or religion had lost meaning had been around before. Nietzsche had a number of influences and contemporaries, but I thoroughly enjoy Nietzsche's work. Something about his writing captures my attention and much of his writing seems more practical to my every day life, maybe because I had similar thoughts before reading him.
Having completely sacrificed ourselves, the next logical step was that taken by Christianity: we sacrificed our God, the one thing in which we had placed all our hopes and faith.
Religion demands sacrifice, and in primitive religions, this sacrifice was of a loved one or a first born: one was asked to sacrifice one's nearest and dearest. This spirit of sacrifice was refined so that we no longer sacrificed others, but sacrificed ourselves instead. We surrendered our will, our freedom, and our strength to our God.
Tubeman is a bit of a wanker quite obviously he doesnt understand much of what Nietzsche says... He can be quite difficult to get to grips with the way he write etc... But heres a small taste of the Genius and novel ideas which can be discovered if you manage to understand him...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm a philosophy major, and I just have to say that I have the LEAST respect for Nietzsche's philosophy. Small minds get excited about his crazy imagery and ideas and thus think that he is foremost among philosophers. Try Kant, he's someone to be a fanboy of.
I agree about Kant but don't you find the ramifications between the relationship between "the death of God" and a pending Nihilism fascinating if not at most prophetic?
philosophy major at 21 years of age? judging someone who has earned respect by many of todays greatest thinkers? To call yourself worthy of judging nietzsche's philosohy you should firstly understand why other thinkers do respect nietzsche so much. I would have nothing against your opinion if you wouldn't have claimed yourself a philoshy major which in fact doesn't really prove a thing and only shows your immaturity.
it's not hard to finish studies. Much harder to really live a life you want.
I'm immature because I said I was a philosophy major, which I am? I didn't mean it as a badge of superiority. I was alluding to the fact that I do study philosophy as a discipline.
Also, I cannot have an opinion? I've studied Nietzsche and I was not impressed. Inferring from your last statement, you probably subscribe to his philosophy so I can understand your disdain for me. However, understand that Nietzsche may be miscontrued by many. His philosphy is probably not saying what you think.
you can have an opinion, I have nothing against it, the only thing I dislike is that you're basically saying that your confidence is based on a fact that you have graduated which does not say anything.
in a sense you can't say you didn't mean it as a badge of superiority because even the fact that you said it proves it or at least proves the fact that you want to be rewarded for your work/studies.
I would argue with you about it but my english is not good enough for such discussions. good luck
So you have a major in philosophy, big deal, remember, most great philosophers didn't even have one and yet those who want to get one must study them.
Not being impressed by Nietzsche is ridicules, he's the only philosopher to get Kant right and even surpases him, or how can you have an imperative when truth has become now a matter of perspective?
Small minds are the one who dare to ignore any great philosopher, even Hegel (hehe not a big fan).
I would say there is a little bit too much sentimentality in the tone of this little clip...Maybe I have interpreted nietzsche wrong but...They didn't exactly nail his character based from his philosophy...This is sensationalized bull.
Well niezsche was an insecure man since the moment his father died at the age of 4, he could maybe look for protection, love and attention his entire life, even if he was struggling for an independent mind, let´s not forget he liked to be alone must of the time, but i agree, ´this clip shows us a very superfitial nietzsche.
vedas are the inspiration of all phillosophers included plato, did you know that?dont waist time reading nietzsche he was not enlighten he was just lost in his ridiculous theory of the superman and he finished his days mad.
yogumi, your comments make me so sad. its really a shame to us all to know of the existence of people that think like you. Have you evenr read him?i really dont think you have. you are insulting the most influencial philosopher, or thinker for that matter, since Plato. He wrote a book called "the antichrist", that might give you some insight about your religion. He studied Theology and philology, so you might consider take his words more seriously.
off course he did, Nietzsche entered the University of Bonn in 1864 as a theology and philology student, but he followed philology until the end. i didnt said that he was a theologist, i meant that he had studied Christianism a lot. He started there my friend, and yes you are right, he did studied the "CLASSICS", i never said he didnt.
"i never said jesus was god but in his words you can million years light more wisdom than in nietzsche." LOL not only are you stupid, you can't even speak properly. before you insult me you'd better learn some more English. or better go fuck yourself and die.
jack its ok if you dont believe in religuions but to systematicaly denied the posibility of truth in religuion this is fanaticism. im not religuious most of religuions are simple rules of conduct.i believe in my common sense.
im not christian i never said jesus was god but in his words you can million years light more wisdom than in nietzsche.only snobbysh wankers like you and hitler thinks that your ambition is the most important thing in this world.good luck poor homo nosapiens at all.
Wisdom begins with truth and reality. You cannot create "million years light more wisdom" from building upon a false idea which encompasses the framework of all religion. Your derranged reasoning only emboldens us thinkers.
you are afraid of the truth as nietzsche was.thats why you insult, in your insults lives the germen of your fears.free your mind to god and understand that this universe is unity and interconexion, that will make your foolish mind to connect with peace love and understanding
so if we dont know what we are doing, means we can basically do anything since "god" gave us self-respect and an ability to not trust anybody which makes us not believe in jesus and bible thus allowing us to do bad things as well since we will still be forgiven.
I have no problem if you believe in god or not but brother if we ever get face to face in a battle for survival, prepare to turn your cheek.
nietzsche an his theory were ridiculous only misguided snobish people keep paying attention to him.remember in this life weare attached to karma and the universal law of matter and effect.so you better be good to every one JESUS was right but nietzsche was a fool.
Jesus(or whoever wrote his lines) was a weak-minded praiser of slaves, only brainwashed insecure people keep paying money to churches. remember that in this life, notions such as karma, "universal law", are invented myths to make strong people treat the weak well in the name of justice. Nietzsche was not always right, but he is much better than someone who told his disciples to give their shirts and coats away.
The whole reason you talk about slaves and masters is because you yourself are a slave and you want to compensate that by spurting your insecure bullshit around, correct?
Well done in making me take Nietzsche less seriously.
Do as I will? I told you that because all the self-proclaimed "Nietzscheans" on the internet do nothing but insult other people in a childish manner instead of going out and living like an Übermensch. Not that the idea of an Overman is rational, but still...
actually you are a fool, your religion has blind you at the point you can not think as a homo sapiens anymore, people like you are just pathetic, I respect jesus as the most succesful and controversial illusionist of all human history, not as the son of a god or a messiah, and I respect Nietzsche as the greatest thinker ever lived, your religions make people slaves of their own foolishness, while christianism or catholisism makes you think as they want, any book by N makes you think as yourself
This is shit, I guess Nietzsche was a big pussy after all. I'm burning all his books, wherever I find them. The TV, the youtube, the family on my wall, has told me it should be. Only this sense of dramatic finality I carry away from this can see me through my days.
this movie is shit and it doesn't show Nietzsche as the way he really was, actually this movie show him like a pussy, belive me when I tell you that he was one of the greatest man who ever lived, don't blind yourself with this video my friend.
Dubious. The movie is indeed fictionalized but behind those bold, powerful, and often inspiring words lies a frail a delicate man. A lonely and scorned man who had the constitution of premature infant. The life and thoughts he could not live, he wrote into reality. Nevertheless, one of the greatest thinkers and writers of all time.
you are pathetic, if you wanna burn every Nietzsche book you find you should burn the bible too and any other book you have, but remember books like the bible makes you think in ways outside your human condition, and makes you belive in bullshit, and Nietzsche's books makes you only open your eyes and belive and think for yourself, so free your mind sucker!

@rsgrcg Why would that be the standard? A philosophy for 'society?
The goal of philosophy is not to satisfy the needs of society, but rather
the needs of an individual who seeks 'truth' and 'reality'.
Suggestion, stop studying for awhile. Go out and dance and
'feel' the joy of your body. The body holds more true knowledge
than the mind. You are a human, don't try to be a computer,
a lot of facts but never the right ones. Humans know the
right questions,more importantly! Good Luck~

itscurbe 2 years ago
Monolith1618 2 years ago 7
And what would be like to actualize a 'post modern ideology'. At what point could you exclaim your success? The entire point of the vast majority of post modernist thought is that thinking in those terms is entirely pointless.
manwaring 2 years ago
Fulfilling one drive leads to another. What's currently postmodern becomes modern.
That's not to say postmodernism is any less postmodern at that point, but the ideas characterizing the definition of the paradigm will have progressed as well.
So actualizing the modern postmodern ideology, that's pretty possible.
Monolith1618 2 years ago
I agree that the paradigm will progress, but this is for me nothing like the idea of actualization. Actualization implies a state where someone can proclaim some sort of success. The best example being Marx's Communism.
All post modernism really is a genre of literature, that like all literature makes suggestions about how to run society, in the case of post modernism it's all vague relative claims. Nothing justifying the term actualization.
manwaring 2 years ago
egalitarian? what? nietzsche was against equality of human beings, we are all different, thats the point, the average mediocre majority is useless
netcyrus 2 years ago
There's no way to be unique that isn't social. Your differences don't even exist without a "mediocre" comparison and mediocrity itself is the foundation of all which you may deem to be superior.
This was a mistake in Neitzsche's philosophy and one brought about by his own feelings of jealousy towards a populous which remained much happier and fulfilled than he ever was, though his isolation was the motivation for his rhetorical obsession. Ironic it's for the greater good I suppose...
Monolith1618 2 years ago
thats a load of shit, the mass isnt happy, and if they are, they are happy wallowing in their mediocrity and resenting anyone better than them, and how do you know how happy Nietzsche was? he loved freindship and everything way more than the mass did, he just realized that the mass was nothing, it was a bunch of tools who would accept any values given to them
netcyrus 2 years ago
As my closing statement I'll say that you seem to be a hateful person, and as frustrating as it is to see many people going through life in a daze, I've never seen hatred as being a product of anything but fear.
Usually it's a fear or lack of a type of intimacy in one's own life. As fulfilling as it is to win an argument, I think that revealing the truth is most important.
Monolith1618 2 years ago
haha, what closing statement? you never rebutted my last claim, and if it makes you sleep better at night thinking that i am a hateful person (even though you've never met me, and youre judging me solely on a youtube comment), i am the least hateful person on earth, what you peasants represent IS hate, you cant tolerate anything different than your filthy egalitarian views on life so you have to bring everyone down to your slavish level, so "reveal the truth" all you want, slave.

Poor Nietzsche, I think he is a wonder gift to humanity. But there are so many pests of human christianity that, well as there's the say never underestimate the power of huge dumb crowds. They only portray him bad. So he was right about people.

wasent that the point of the movie, that he was the greatest psychologist who ever lived
sbabayan85 2 years ago
@mJCacc Nietzsche literally changed my life,....he's not simple doing thinking out of curiosity or for some hidden truth, that is why he is so wise, because above all he values life...but like he said, full is the earth of those to whom distance from life must be preached and this is why they hate him.

AHAHAHAHAHAHA! Crying Nietzsche! Brilliant! AHAHAHAHAHA!
mizantrop12 2 years ago
he was not an ATHEIST. first of all, dont take his writings up and around zarathustra not to serious, cause thats when his madness starts to take over, but look at the poem of his with the altar 'dem unbekannte gotte', the unknown got. & parabel: he said that WE killed god, and the madman in the parabel say'its to soon for my words'' we killed god IN OUR hearts. So Nietzsche said whats the next step ? how are we gonna fill this vaccuum ? I think nietzsche always believed, but was not religiuous
Vergilius07 2 years ago
I would say that Nietzsche was pretty close to being an Atheist if he wasn't. He praises Spinoza, who finds that nature is god. "I can only worship a god that dances." He also says that the overmen will replace god. God is nothing other than what has been created by man for his crappy morality. Get rid of both, and create something better.
He was pretty lucid during the writings of Zarathustra, and his mental breakdown did not come until years after it was finished.
ziria 2 years ago
Nietzsche had strokes did he not?
I think the strokes may have played a part in his mental breakdown.
DerPoltergeist13 2 years ago
no, not strokes, but severe migraines.
i don't like the word 'atheist', it reminds me of vulgar positivists. nietzsche, to my mind, never really set out to depose god nor did he feel the need to dispute his existence. for nietzsche, god is besides the point, we have outlived him and we can no longer recover him.
Victimoftheinsane 2 years ago
deleuze said this beautifully once. i can't remember the text, but he wrote that god had already died when feuerbach and the left hegelians came to the fore, so nietzsche's proclamation is hardly a revelatory one. nietzsche's contribution is in telling us that god is entirely superfluous.
Victimoftheinsane 2 years ago

JHC1989 3 years ago
Religion demands sacrifice, and in primitive religions, this sacrifice was of a loved one or a first born: one was asked to sacrifice one's nearest and dearest. This spirit of sacrifice was refined so that we no longer sacrificed others, but sacrificed ourselves instead. We surrendered our will, our freedom, and our strength to our God.

I'm a philosophy major, and I just have to say that I have the LEAST respect for Nietzsche's philosophy. Small minds get excited about his crazy imagery and ideas and thus think that he is foremost among philosophers. Try Kant, he's someone to be a fanboy of.
tubeman2010 3 years ago
I agree about Kant but don't you find the ramifications between the relationship between "the death of God" and a pending Nihilism fascinating if not at most prophetic?
SeinUndZeit 3 years ago
philosophy major at 21 years of age? judging someone who has earned respect by many of todays greatest thinkers? To call yourself worthy of judging nietzsche's philosohy you should firstly understand why other thinkers do respect nietzsche so much. I would have nothing against your opinion if you wouldn't have claimed yourself a philoshy major which in fact doesn't really prove a thing and only shows your immaturity.
it's not hard to finish studies. Much harder to really live a life you want.
ighnaz 3 years ago
I'm immature because I said I was a philosophy major, which I am? I didn't mean it as a badge of superiority. I was alluding to the fact that I do study philosophy as a discipline.
Also, I cannot have an opinion? I've studied Nietzsche and I was not impressed. Inferring from your last statement, you probably subscribe to his philosophy so I can understand your disdain for me. However, understand that Nietzsche may be miscontrued by many. His philosphy is probably not saying what you think.
tubeman2010 3 years ago
you can have an opinion, I have nothing against it, the only thing I dislike is that you're basically saying that your confidence is based on a fact that you have graduated which does not say anything.
in a sense you can't say you didn't mean it as a badge of superiority because even the fact that you said it proves it or at least proves the fact that you want to be rewarded for your work/studies.
I would argue with you about it but my english is not good enough for such discussions. good luck
ighnaz 3 years ago
So you have a major in philosophy, big deal, remember, most great philosophers didn't even have one and yet those who want to get one must study them.
Not being impressed by Nietzsche is ridicules, he's the only philosopher to get Kant right and even surpases him, or how can you have an imperative when truth has become now a matter of perspective?
Small minds are the one who dare to ignore any great philosopher, even Hegel (hehe not a big fan).

Well niezsche was an insecure man since the moment his father died at the age of 4, he could maybe look for protection, love and attention his entire life, even if he was struggling for an independent mind, let´s not forget he liked to be alone must of the time, but i agree, ´this clip shows us a very superfitial nietzsche.

off course he did, Nietzsche entered the University of Bonn in 1864 as a theology and philology student, but he followed philology until the end. i didnt said that he was a theologist, i meant that he had studied Christianism a lot.
