I disagree with the whole "it can't be done in the pros" idea. The fact is we dont really know because NOONE has ever tried to run the flexbone in the pros. Its very versatile, theres alot that can be done out of it, and with the right personell i feel it would drive defensive coordinators crazy, especially with only a week to prepare. also the talent would be higher, since the flexbone would obviously use nfl caliber players
@mcrdexfan The flexbone could be good in the pros, if and only if the two slotbacks were extremely good receivers. Ideally, a flexbone team would have players like Reggie Bush, who is (technically) a running back, but is a very good receiver. With that versatility, the offense could either run the option or play like a spread.
@kbuchanan44 It's just really tough to find a quarterback who can run and take the punishment an option quarterback takes and then be able to throw the ball around but I agree with you that would be the only way to make it work, otherwise NFL defenses would just put 8 or 9 in the box every play
@mcrdexfan That's an extremely good point that I had forgotten to address. One theory is that a team could platoon 2 QBs (maybe even more) so that neither takes too much punishment. I know it sounds crazy, but there are a bunch of reasonably good option QBs every year that don't get drafted. There have to be at least a few that are good enough or athletic enough to succeed. I for one would love to see Denard Robinson play as an option QB in the NFL-he's as quick and elusive as Michael Vick.
@kbuchanan44 I mean many NFL teams use the shotgun read as a wrinkle of sorts, the Steelers, Ravens, and Broncos just off the top of my head so why not go the extra yard and install a full no huddle, option based spread attack? Every year more and more option QBs are trying to become wide recievers or running backs, why not use that resource? Imagine how valuable it would be to be able to wait until the late rounds and undrafted free agency to draft a franchise QB
@mcrdexfan That's exactly what I mean! Imagine if teams like Buffalo, San Francisco, Oakland, teams that have a history of drafting QB busts used those wasted picks on good o-linemen or linebackers instead of QBs. They would be better off b/c of the useful picks, instead of wasted picks on QBs. Also, teams would have to focus extremely hard on stopping the offense because of its unorthodoxness. We saw how the unorthodox Wildcat caused issues for defenses.
@mcrdexfan Also, I like the idea of a no huddle, spread option offense. I believe that, eventually, even the NFL will start to implement more and more spread option concepts. The most important attribute for a QB in that system would have to be the ability to read a defense and audible to a better play, a la Peyton Manning. A QB doesn't have to have an extremely accurate arm if he calls plays that exploit defensive mismatches and get receivers uncovered. I'd rather have a smart QB anyways.
@kbuchanan44 Exactly. The only limitations on such an offense would be the quarterbacks intellect, and how much of the system he can absorb. With the threat of a bubble screen, there can only be 6 in the box, any more and the defense would get gashed deep. Running the zone read or triple option you eliminate blocking a man or two, and then you have a 5 on 6 if there is a TE in the game, and a 4 on 5 if there is not.
this is actualy called the wing t offense wouldd be crap in the pros because it is built around fakes and in the pros there smarter and in college there just getting to the level were there getting more disaplined but this is not a great offense to run
@lewis8464 Wing-T is similar but its called the Flexbone.. the wing T has a double right (left) formation that looks like the flexbone but not the same...
HEy does Ncaa11 Have tHis Formation? or you have to creat it, because ive been waiting for a doublewing-like offence to come out with motions and all.
not to sound like a wise ass but the two backs arnt considered wings unless ther is a guard tackle and tight end on each side, if there isnt 3 lineman on the wingback's side hes considered a slotback, (again i didnt say that to be a dick)
I too am a HUGE FAN of the triple option. I loved the way the QB fakes the handoff up the middle and breaks it outside. There is nothing in the world like it after you have gotten a big gain.
I love the way Tommy Frazier ran it at UN and I even liked Kordell Stewart at colorado (even though it wasn't a true option offense). It's just whenever the play is called and he keeps it, he seemed to always get very big yardage everytime.
Yeah you can tell this guy has never coached in this offense.......Its a good video if you play NCAA but the problem is is that people who play NCAA think that the Triple is run the way its run on the game. Its not even close, the obvious reason is that in the game the Oline just base blocks everybody and there are no set keys on who to read.
haha my team runs this exact same thing the only problem is weve been running it for years people r starting to catch on and we only run thiis its useless in the 2 minute drill
shouldnt matter if they are catching on to it, yall should be better because yall have more understanding of the flexbone and tip-top execution because of years of repition, flexbone cant be stoped when exceuted
@coachhannijr i know my high school runs this and we have a 4-4 defense so the offense gets pounded by our own defense...most teams around our league runs 3-4 or 4-3 or Stack
@grunt616 yea but a 5-3-3 u got a ng to take out both a gaps then two dt's to hold down the dive's then two DE's to take out the qb an two lb's and cb's to take out the Rb's an a mlb to help on both the dives an the speed opt an just 1 saftey cuz most veer teams dont pass the ball but 3-5 times a game neway but u also got 2 cb's to help that
I ran this offense as a jr. High coach, so I'm no super authority. Your demo was fun! I miss the Triple Option from the split-back alignement, a la Bill Yeoman's Houston Cougars.
my high school runs the flexbone(we call it ace)and u dont pitch off the end. u usually read the end with the fullback on one play and if u pull it u pitch off the safety, another play is actually up the middle like how ur doing it here, and then the qb just runs it in b gap if he pulls it
our high school runs the flex bone. im the quarterback. this offense works really well if u run it right and make good reads. but bad reads can get ur running back or urself just blown up. on some plays they leave a man or 2 unblocked so u can read it. if u make a bad read then ur fucked, but a good read will get u really good yardage. and if your blockers do everything right itll be a touchdown everytime
its either "A" or "X" depending on if ur playing the 360 version or the PS3 version. hold A for example if u want to hand it off to the FB, dont hold it if u want to run HB option.
you know so little about running this offense. stevie wonder could have run it against a quarters defense. all you did was give the ball when everyone was on the outside and pull and pitch when you blitzed the middle. you never explained bout dive and pitch reads. you are just some guy who thought it was fun to run flexbone on a video game
What I'm liking more about your flexbone is that its a No Huddle, imagine if georgia tech ran no huddle, they would finish the year #1 in total yards and total offense, this is just deadly!
haha THAT BE BOMB.. but look at like Miami dolphins... Pat white as the QB.. Ronnie brown, Ricky Williams.. then like a good Fullback.. Eric Kettani from Navy should have been drafted!
i think that the flexbone and the spread are offenses that aren't gonna be in the NFL for a bit, they're not deemed "pro style" offenses, but i'm pretty sure they'd be sucessful.
Well most of the teams like New England & Pittsburgh claimed to have used or uses the spread.I saw from the Pats. Now the Eagles & the Bucs(when Gruden was coaching )uses the spread offense
hah the vikings would be good to run it. especially if you had adrian peterson running this triple option in the spot of, i think, the fullback. like the first clip. lol
Also, man, alot of people can't fully commit to the option on high difficulty in NCAA football games.... you always find spread and west coast....... I have used option run and grind for a LONG time and just to give people an idea of how good it can be... i played an ACC championship game against Florida State and had the ball for 50 minutes of the football game....This is no joke and no exaggeration. Exactly what the stats said. GRIND IT OUT
They're not called wingbacks.. they're slot backs.
A tight end on either side of a tackle with a back behind them makes them a wing back, you can look that up.
Alot of people say wing back in the flexbone but a WR has to be pulled off, putting a tight end in and making a Wing on one side... making it a wing back.
Not being a douche bag, just telling ya.
I'm currently using Georgia Tech in my Online Dynasty with friends from work. I have thought flexbone is best for a while.
on any video game the triple option is never blocked correctly so it ruins the whole advantage of running the option. You always have 2 guys on the playside you dont block on the option and video. games always block it like anyother runnign play. In the deffense on your video game the de and lb on the play side would be read #1 and read #2 and should not be blocked.
I'm a h.s. coach that runs th eflexbone and we hav enever seen the defense you have shown. A nose stack with DTs on the tackles and everyone else wide?? Very weak up th emiddle.
Both the playside Defensive End and Defensive Tackle are being blocked. The backs look like they are running an option play but the O-Line is doing a regular run. It looks cool, but the primary reason its working is because the defensive AI is so hopelessly out of position.
the triple option is an amazing offense. yes, a 5-2 defense can stop it, but that leaves people open for pass plays. GT hasn't perfected passing yet, but I feel that thats gonna be a key part of this next season. if all that works accordingly, its gonna be a force to be reckoned with!
Then the B-Back can fairly easily run up the middle. Easy 3-4 yard gain, and that's all you need in this offense.
It really is a very hard offense to stop, if run correctly. It takes a lot of patience to stop the triple option, but it can be done. However, if the passing-game is even existent, it becomes almost impossible to stop.
Im a college DE and I must say that it can be difficult 2 stop. Most defenses tell their ends to take out the QB whether he pitches it or not simply cuz they want 2 make the offense stop running the option cuz the QB will be taking 2 much punishment.
However, one technique that can be used is one where the DE "feathers out" the play. This is done by the DE trying to string out the play by neither giving the QB nor the pitch man any room to run to the outside. It takes good instincts by the DE
On the veer the playside Defensive End is left unblocked and is the first option read. If the QB reads correctly the DE should never make the play.
Lucas Cox - TD - UM v GT 2008
On this play you can see the DE unblocked on the left. He steps up the field after Josh Nesbitt, so Nesbitt correctly gives the ball to Cox. The SSLB and SS step after the lead wingback and the pitchman. The MLB gets sealed off. This play was an Easy Touchdown 1.5 seconds after the snap of the ball.
There are so many versions of the Spread Offense such as Texas Tech's Air Raid, Hawaii's Run & Shoot, Florida's Spread Option, the traditional spread passing attack (which somehow is not referred to as a gimmick offense compared to the previous two I mentioned), and a number of teams who have non-triple option running attacks from the Spread formation. The whole point to any offense is to accumulate yards and first downs, and score points.
In college football, there is more variety in offensive systems used by different college teams. The option offense is now primarily used out of the spread 3-wide formation, the flexbone (as seen here), and the I-formation. I haven't seen the wishbone used in a long while. Anothing thing I've noticed is that all NFL teams are using the Wildcat offense after Miami successfully used it to defeat New England.
I don't see how any offense can ruin football. What I have noticed is that in the NFL, almost all teams use some version of the West Coast Offense, either the one used by Don Coryell or the one used by Bill Walsh. Also, all NFL teams use the spread offense to certain degrees.
Great offense...what kind of passing plays can you run off of this formation??? IMHO to keep the defense honest maybe make a 5-yd TE slot pass to the middle or some kind of running left option and then passing to the other side of the field to catch the D sliding one way...thanks. Great stuff!!!
veer definitely is the most dinamic offense in all of football my high school put it in last year and they made the playoffs for the first time since 1999 and made it all the way to the final 4
my high school team uses the triple option, it dominates. we have the same formation except we have 1 wide reciever and 1 tight end on the other side, instead of 2 wide recievers, you can run so many plays off it
my highschool football team uses this kind of offense. you need a fast qb, a fast fb and two fast hbs. you also need fast guards in the o line. the guards always pull and the qb always runs a bootleg.
this offense, our offense is unstoppable... better than spread
Plus, it IS difficult, but not impossible, to shut down the flexbone. Any CFL coach will tell you that ("Joke League"((Not my opinion on the CFL, but seems to be a common belief)), or not, they've been making counter-preparations against the Flexbone formation as long as it's been a staple in every CFL offensive playbook).
great video but I will argue that the ace singleback, power I and strong options work better than this, u obvioulsy have the speed jacked up for these players too
I think your taste in music sux. How does it feel to be lookin up to Georgia Southern's SIX NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS with this OFFENSE, Cause thats where its TRUE ORIGINS ARE with PJ. Soar Like an Eagle .
Would not work in NFL. Defenses are smarter, stronger and faster.

The spread is ruining football.

my high school team uses the triple option, it dominates. we have the same formation except we have 1 wide reciever and 1 tight end on the other side, instead of 2 wide recievers, you can run so many plays off it

Agreed! This really is the best offense in football! Love it! If a team runs this offense the right way it is net to impossible to stop.

my highschool football team uses this kind of offense. you need a fast qb, a fast fb and two fast hbs. you also need fast guards in the o line. the guards always pull and the qb always runs a bootleg.
this offense, our offense is unstoppable... better than spread

They're called slotbacks, technically.
Plus, it IS difficult, but not impossible, to shut down the flexbone. Any CFL coach will tell you that ("Joke League"((Not my opinion on the CFL, but seems to be a common belief)), or not, they've been making counter-preparations against the Flexbone formation as long as it's been a staple in every CFL offensive playbook).

this is a great offense to use on freshman skill level

great ball and clock control offense, but can be easily stopped with good defensive speed, especially by stacking the box.
Horns69651 3 years ago
nope...if run right it realy can't be stopped at all. It just depends on the personnel running the offense.

this is an awesome formation...the pass game isn't that weak either if you have quick backs.

My high school team runs this it is awsome when it all comes together

I am a wishbone fan. It is the most deceving offense if you sell it well.

Our highschool team runs this offense. Works great with the run game but the pass game is weak.
olafj09 3 years ago
great video but I will argue that the ace singleback, power I and strong options work better than this, u obvioulsy have the speed jacked up for these players too
grubbs112489 3 years ago
wow way to run it against a prevent defense

Looks like this is on Varsity skill level. I cannot get this crap to work on Heisman level in 2009.
