i don't see you explaining about wrapping the string around the axle, how to do it, etc. that is the heart of the mousetrap. you failed. even if you did explain it somewhere, you fail to explain it at the right moment. you should have explained it when you mentioned kite strings.
@youkluo That is where you're wrong sir. Bottle caps would be better suited for acceleration but not give you any distance. CD's are GREAT for distance, but lack on acceleration. It depends on what the teacher is asking for the assignment, but my Tried and Tested design gives a good balance of both.
HELP ME !!!!! mine is due tomorrow, and when I release it, it jumps in the air and doesn't move forward! I don't know what's wrong. I think I should wiegh down the back wheels, but i don't know how and what to do! HELP!!!!!
@lotsofgum sounds like your wheels are too loose and rubbing on the frame. Try finding some smaller paper clips to hold the rear axle better. If that doesn't work get a longer axle to get the wheels away from the frame. AND DON'T forget to use straws as spacers otherwise the wheels will just move from left to right.
Also, thanks for the videos! They really were helpful. Also, I love your voice. There's just something about it, it's awesome :P. Keep up the good work.
The kinetic energy on my mouse trap is too powerful. When it releases the energy, it clamps so fast it enables the car to move. Did you adjust your mousetrap wire in order to make the kinetic energy go slower? If so, how did you do it?
@Arvenpokemaster It's simple. Use a longer arm, add more weight to the drive wheels, give the drive wheels extra grip (ex. rubber bands), use bigger wheels. Any or all of those suggestions should work depending on the severity. HOPE THIS HELPS!!!
@BIGfart7 So, mine does the same as Arvenpokemaster in that the arm closes too fast. It's pretty much the same length as yours (a little over a foot). Right now my wheels are rather small, they're just water bottle caps with about five of those tiny rubber bands you use for braces wrapped around each of the two back wheels. So that would be a problem? I see that you said making the wheels bigger helps, which I am planning to do, but do you know why that actually makes the arm go slower?
Have you noticed that part one has the most views. That's because it sucks and people stop watching it. Those that are interested a little then watch part five (the second most watched of the five) because they do not want to listen to your long winded explanations about how to build a cheap mouse trap car that breaks. And the only reason your first video has so many views is because Mr. Lind gave us the link because he thought it would help us with our own projects. He was wrong. Burn me --__--
How did you make it so fast. I tried using rubber bands, light weight wood as base and plastic wheels but the mouse trap goes very slow. Is it because of the mouse trap itself that isnt powerful enough or did i do something wrong?
I used pinewood derby car wheels instead of juice caps and it worked perfectly thanks man oh and tip on the threading use a zip tie on the axel trim off the excess from the zip tie make a small loop and hook it on the zip tie then pull your car back like an old toy I found the solution on another how to video
To everybody wondering how to "load" the mousetrap car and how to attach the string...he explains it in the " Ultimate Mouse Trap Car Instructions" video
i used some of the blue tape that you use when you paint to tape the end of the string to the axle. Then when i wind the string, it should wind on top of the tape. When i did that, my car worked. :D
I agree with MaryDMill90k, I love this tutorial, you've done a great job in explaining almost everything, but I think you kinda forgot to teach us how you wound the kite string on the rear axle. A quick explanation would be bloody great.
I did every part you made, I tried winding the string(had to use thread but I braided it) but it made my car do a 360 instead, now i put 2 double a batteries on it and upbraided the thread, now the thread is getting caught and wont unwind the axle all the way, so then i assumed the thread was to long and cut the long rod in half and shortened the thread, its still getting caught and not unwinding, dunno what to do...
quick response please.... i have still got the problem of the mouse trap doing a flip can oyu please tell me if there is a good way to stop it flipping. how do you put the string around the axle properly i don't think i put it on right
I am required to put two rolls of 50 pennies on the mouse trap. Where should i put them (front, back, middle??), and will it still go about 4 or 5 meters? Quick response please!?
What did you use to keep your string attached to the back axel so you could wind the string up around it without it slipping and coming undone, and so by the time the string completely unraveled from the axel, it won't tighten and accelerate the car backwards?
@BIGfart7 um no, it not friction. you need more detail on how to get the string to stay on the back axle because im sitting staring at my mouse trap car with everything done exept for the last freakin step, which is the one you forgot to explain. ( how to keep the string on the back axle )
It would be awesome if you could tell me how and help me out man
Im going to attempt to build this now bc its due tomorrow, but i don't understand the last step of you attaching the string to the arm, may you quickly explain?
I having trouble getting mine to go, I just having a problem winding up the string and then when i let it go the mousetrap goes, and there's no tension between the string and the axle
dude! u should have told us what size trap to get! apprently, urs is the small type......i got the big type....and i cant "strip" it down,is that ok,pls reply in a day or else im scrwd
