Shandon , I wish I could see this movie all the way thru , but , of course , I love all your Dad's raps. "That California thang don't GIT IT , man!". Of course , The SDQ and The Elevators had a lot to do with why California DID get it...and claim it for their own.
Saw Shawn with The Tornados , recently. TOO MUCH !!!
Hey Shandon did I ever tell you I went with my mom to a private screening of Cisco Pike before it was released? Pretty good movie. C-ya soon bro. Oh yea I think Karen Black was KK's girlfriend in that. WOWZERS
First time I even heard of Doug Sahm was when I bought the LP "Doug Sahm and Band" around 1975, because I was a big fan of Bob Dylan. I became a fan at once. As a swede I was lucky to seen him a couple of times in Sweden. I´ve got most of his CDs today, and I`m sure do miss your great dad.....
hey! I met your dad in Stockholm, Sweden in the early ninetees. A great man. We talked. I saw him play. It was a great nite. I work as a dj and lately I´ve been playing his version of the blues classic I´m a man. God bless him. Peace & love/björn
Saw your Dad perform @ the Last Chance Saloon in Poughkeepsie, NY about 1977. He played guitar, fiddle & piano that night & sang even though he had a sore throat. I was sitting alone at the bar having lunch a few weeks b4 the gig when the phone rang & the owner turned & said do ya think anybody would come to see Doug Sahm? I said hell yeah! If I wasnt there he might not have booked it.
"CISCO PIKE" is a very good and underrated movie, with Harry Dean Stanton, Karen Black, Gene Hackman, Kris and DOUG SAHM in a cameo, as well as the Sir Douglas Quintet 's "Michoacan" over the opening credits. See it!
I saw "Sir Douglas" play at a beer and pizza joint (Armadillo World Headquarters) in Austin, Summer of 1972. I wonder if soon to be famous, Freddy Fender and Flaco Jimenez were playing with him that day?
I've been a fan of your Dad since I snagged a copy of "Sir Doug and Band" out of the cutout bin for a buck back in about 1978. Only got to see him once (with the Texas Tornados), but damn, that was a good show! Thanks for posting this stuff!!!
I watched Cisco Pike again last week, a great film of the 70s which isn't as known as it ought to be. A real cult film with naturalistic performances & memorable scenes/dialogue like this. It was KK's first film I think.
You've got a very groovy Dad.

Your Dad brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people
with his beautiful music. I was so thrilled to see him
live in San Diego when Mendocino was getting played
like crazy on the radio. I fell in love with that song
instantly and must've bought 5 or 6 45's over the
years. He left this earth way to early.
