Why are you bitching about Andy's good serve? Federer serves his ass out of trouble all the time. Maybe youre just angry that Roddick did it better? Federer can go suck it, worst sort.
For people who keep saying Andy Roddick is just a serve, look at Ivo Karlovic. He has just as good if not a better serve than Andy, but has never been in the top ten nor made it past a quarterfinal of a major. If Andy Roddick is just a serve, then explain why he's so much better...
for anyone that claims roddick is "just a serve" really needs to get their head checked. you simply do NOT make up one of the top 10 in the world by being "just a serve"
@davd1986 he just snapped an 11 match losing streak against a guy who has beaten him in so many of his most important matches and who he had only beaten once before. i think i would have cried
As long Andy can really protect his service games like he did for the bulk of this match, he can really stay with Fed. He never used to really do that as well as nowadays.
I agree, I admire roger for all his talent, skill, athleticism, but for some reason I seem to have more of a liking to andy, if everything goes well and neither fed or andy get hurt, they will face off in davis cup soon, in america..I imagine it will be the last singles match..that should be interesting..
@quest8899 yep, and roddick did propose to her like an hour before the match so he musted the belief to beat fed here, so yes in the aftermatch, im pretty sure thats what roddick did lol - but he deserved it i guess :P.
fucking hell guys look!!!!nadal wouldn't be number 1 if he doesn't have his groundstrokes and i think having a great serve and relying on them isn't a bad thing either is like saying to nalbandian if you dnt have your groundstroke skills you won't even be an international so come on shut the fuck up
Even when Roger is having a bad match, I think one of the most underappreciated things about Roger is his range for the court. The one like 4:27 is a good example.
Having watched most of Roddick-Federer matches, I think one of the biggest things that separates the skill difference, other than backhand, is that Roger has amazing reach and can cover large range of court. Andy is fast too but his flexibility to cover court is much worse.
He just has to put some high % of first serves in. I checked the stats and he put 69% first serves in this match...not surprising that Andy pulled this one out.
But serve-wise, I think Andy hasn't been too bad. He just needs to put more against Roger since Roger will put more balls back than an avg player
He just needs to have the mental toughness to fight out some of them. Except AO and Bangkok where Andy was injured, almost every match they played was reasonably fair or close in prime.
tough thing about playing roger is keeping the level of focus, intensity and consistency during the entire match..I think most players would agree on how hard that is to do agains´t th world number 1..especially guys like a-rod
any1 thin roddick cud win the open he always plays well ther he's had a good year beat the top 3 on hard courts and he plays well in atleast 1 grand slam in the year and so far he hasnt so surely he cud do it, federer must be hurt alot atm, nadal is class act but he's still not a dominat hard court player yet, djokovic is my favourite but u neva know
Roddick played very well. Used his forehand to good effect, backhand was solid and his serve was very consistent when he needed it. Federer played well too, however it seemed as if Roddick's serve penetrated a lot more in this match compared to their other meetings. He seemed a little slugish or indifferent when he was returning Roddick's serve but then again Roddick was serving monsters on big points. Good play by both, Roddick played extremely well.
one thing looks certain, things are only going to get that much harder for roger in years to come, because other top guys are gaining on him, for roger to maintain his status, it´s going to take fenomenal effort from him, as the field is growing stronger..
true his movement was off but i mean come one. Federer won 15 matches against roddick, hes bound to at least ONE crappy match eventually. Theres so much pressure on him to become the worlds best player, it was gonna catch up sometime. I have no doubt he'll be back whether it be later this year or next year.
would all of you stop saying "If he didn't have his serve" that's just like saying "If Nadal didn't have his groundstrokes" or "if Gonzalez didn't have forehand" it's ridiculous, it doesn't even fucking matter because regardless he does have his serve. I agree with chrismp it's fun to deversify everything. Jesus, Roddick won some points from the baseline too, it isn't like he isn't capable of defending himself when has to.I'm not even a roddick fan and I have to defend him.
Good for Andy, but Federer is clearly off in his movement. Even so, he is way better from the baseline, and if not for Roddick's serve, he'd have won this in straight sets.
People, let's be clear about a few things. Roddick has other good shots than his HUGE serve. His groundstrokes are very good: his forehand and his backhand as well, and occasional good volleys. BUT we can all agree that he probably wouldn't be no.6 in the world if it wasn't for his serve. He would probably be around no.15 or no.16 if he had a week serve like nadal's.
so true. Roddick has really developed his all around game over the past year. Yes, he does have the best serve on tour. However, as you say his forehand does damage, and his backhand does the job as well.
Also, his court movement and general footwork have gotten monumentally better. It's so annoying to see Federer's post match response, "He played well, and i made some mistakes and GAVE him the match". Thats bs, Federer didn't give it to him, Andy earned it!
yes he said that in so many words. He congratulated Andy VERY briefly and said he served well. Immediately followed that comment by saying he gave up the match because of his errors.
It should be obvious that anyone could say they gave the match if they make more mistakes than they normally would. That is like saying we lost the b-ball game because we missed our shots.
ye he has JUST A SERVE! lol...god people like u lot saying that are hilarious...Roddick beat federer and deserved/ earned that win. so stop being childish and grow up, its more enjoyable to see federer lose at times than win everything, IF HE WON EVERYTHING TENNIS WOULD BE AN EXTREMELY BORING SPORT TO WATCH
Just a serve ?! I guess that's supposed to be the most important thing of all in modern tennis :) and I don't think he only has a HUGE serve... What a great forehand :) and a stable backhand... Roddick is getting more complete and Federer is not in shape these days... Go Andy !!! Been waiting for this like forever :)
this year no, but it has been quite boring at times when roger was steam rolling everyone, except nadal on clay..one guy winning all the time is down right monotonus! as you said
@chrismp3 totally agree, it´s good to see fed lose sometimes, it´s good to have variety and other player´s coming into the spotlight a bit more, i admire roger for all his talent, skill, athleticism and so forth, but, sometimes a change is necessary, to make the sport more exciting..
wow seriously GROW THE FUCK UP! i'm so sick of hearing that shit. yea his serve is incredible, but his forehand is great and for a top ten player his backhand is decent as well. so stop making fucking excuses and just except the fact roddick can play.
Why are you bitching about Andy's good serve? Federer serves his ass out of trouble all the time. Maybe youre just angry that Roddick did it better? Federer can go suck it, worst sort.

Roddick has been serving at Federer's body recently. Limiting his reach. That and the 70% are the reasons Federer had trouble at Wimbledon!

hopefully, Roddick will be able to beat the new disheartened federer in the upcoming months and maybe even get back to a respectable win/loss ratio.
Now, I'm not a federer hater, but I would like to see roddick come out on top more of the time.
