Is it just me or does it seem like some of the people in the back are dissatisfied with the performance? I don't mean any of the musicians but people like the guy at the left in white at 2:31-2:42 and other parts of the video. They have the air of boredom and seem to be disappointed with the musicians. I think it's a great performance though.
J'adore le montage qui nous montre lorsque chaque instrumentiste prend la parole, et ça me fait penser un peu à du jazz cette interprétation! Daniel Barenboim a toujours la classe!
mr. myagi there with his basoon, as steady fast as earth's best bed rock... no need to coax the soft tones to competition... a galaxy floating in the quiet of the universe looking on to stars that come and vanish... (and other consideations)
On the page it looked...nothing! The beginning simple...almost comic. Just a pulse. Bassoons, basset horns...Like a rusty squeezebox! And then! Suddenly, high above it...an oboe. A single note, hanging there, unwavering! Until, a clarinet took it over, and sweetened it into a phrase of such delight! This was no composition by a performing monkey. This was a music I had never heard. Filled with such longing! Such unfulfillable longing! It seemed to me that I was hearing the Voice of God.
The effect of listening to this music is like no other music ever composed, it's powerful therapeutic qualities transcend my deepest inner mental state , gently taking control of all my persona, invoking a sublime inner peace and lifting my presence above life itself. Once there, I float in a soothing world of ecstasy and only return to this life when music stops.
In the film, the uptempo ending isn't part of this movement. They jumped to the end of the last movement of the work. If one doesn't know that it does sound like a very crazy way to end a beautiful slow movement.
Whoever made this video, and the recording, should also be complimented on a very fine and professional job. Following the instruments, the faces of the musicians; it's really very very well done. Thank you.
A quality interpretation! Dont forget the second bassoon part. Constant moving eighth notes without nary a rest. Breath with the phrasing if anyone is paying attention and not getting too caught up on their whole note solos or being a clarinet
Poor beginning. 3rd movement is very flowing. The musicians are stiff. Especially the 2nd Oboe. I get the feeling that they know that they are being filmed. They should stop trying to show off and play this beautiful piece.

The music is great, but not the best performance. There are silly intonation issues from both the oboe and bassoon that almost make the performance annoying. But, man alive, the greatness that is Mozart survives
In Milos Forman's "Amadeus" they butchered this 3rd movement to bring it to a quick end. They actually hired a composer for this. This is really unfortunate since it is one of Mozart's masterpiece.
l agree that this is a masterpiece. it might also be one of my very favorites of his, but they couldn't keep the whole song in... It's A Movie. If they were to play every song on that soundtrack back-to-back, non-stop, the movie would last 2.5 hours. givin that it's already 3 hours long, that would leave only 15 for dialect and another 15 for walking around, bumping into things, eating and such, lol
Thank God for that movie, because since there are so many compositions...this "Gran Partita" III k361(being a bit butchered here, maybe the sound pick up/mics were up too high on some instruments)---would not have enchanted me so without Salieri's character describing the instruments so poetically.
Ok, now that I heard and watched it and read all 38 comments...I've decided to take up wind instruments, particularly the oboe...and this video grew on me and has become "un-butchered". Although the people who played these instruments made pretty silly faces...hmmm.. : )
Oh my god, this video is a rare gem. This conductor's gestures are so very touching. This piece does not always have a conductor because it is almost an ensemble piece. Yet every hand and facial motion of this conductor tells a story!
The first clarinet. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the first clarinet player Also Play for the Berlin Philharmonic(The Best Orchestra Ever!)?He's one of the Principal players
Ahh But I like Wenzel Fusch (I think I spelled it wrong) better than him.Have you heard Wenzel play Premiere Rhapsody for Clarinet and Orchestra with the Berlin Philharmonic? It's amazing. He's actually my favorite clarinet play.(BTW does any of the BPO player speak any English?)
