  • try le hot club du france, django and stephane

  • Just got back from seeing them in L.A. Great, great concert.

  • Genial Max y genial la orquesta!

  • omg, he is very cute!!!

  • ohhh i'm in Heaven...

  • Thank you so much for posting This is great!!

  • I'm so excited; I have tickets to see them next month in Los Angeles.

The day I found them I bought two of their DVD's and tickets to see them live.

  • thornie123. I am so happy to hear that my teenagers are not the only ones positively influenced by this type of music. I agree with you 100%. Reading your comment is refreshing.

  • @wissing4 they arent alone thankfully. and hopefully there are many more teens like us out there that enjoy real music.

  • I'm in love. With every single member of this band.

  • Wundebar!!

  • I doubt very much indeed that Max Raabe has any British family connections at all - he is quite clearly German not only in appearance but also in his accent which I find quite endearing. As a vocalist he well and truly captures the style and grace and sophistication of the 1930s to perfection - he would not have been out of place singing in the Dorchester Hotel in London on an evening in 1935, shall we say, in front of all those elegantly dressed dancers swirling around on the dance floor.

  • This is a very upbeat version of this old song - full tempo indeed, and I really like it. I can hardly keep up with it in my foot tapping!

  • nice

  • A great arrangement of an old song Great band! Man, I throughly enjoyed this. I'm from the Detroit, Mi. area. When are you coming here??

  • @dcbusch1

Me too Detroit. This guy is great!

  • he´s at cool cat and i´m glad that he and the rest is coming till sweden!!!

  • gross-artig, mit dieser Musi

  • Absolutely perfect. I actually like the slightly-too-fast tempo, gives everything a carefree, funtime feel.

  • This is faster than it's meant to be, I reckon, but otherwise, wonderful! Or as they say in German...Wundebar!

  • der schlagzeuger ist cool drauf . wie der immer kugt

  • Das ist einfach irrsinig gei..l!:-)))

  • Saw the show last night in Reno, Nevada, outstanding!! Like going back in time.

  • Well, with a name like that, he's just gotta be. The only more German name I can think of is Fritz Adolf Von Deutsch. We should totally have more big bands today.

  • lolant cette musique !

  • If more people listened to this type music there would be less hate and crime in the world. Glenn Miller etc, its all wonderful. Instead of songs about hate and murder and drugs, this music was fun and you could have a good time listening to it. im only 17 years old and i LOVE this kind of music.

  • @thornie123 My boy, you're musically sane - welcome to the club ;-)

  • @HMservant Why thank you, its a pleasure to be amongst you fine people :P

  • @thornie123

Hei ........ you are so RIGHT!

    Thank´s a lot.

  • @ThePilot314 But seriously, you have people like "Lil Wayne" Justin Bieber who arent talented. Who sing about sex, drugs, murder, commiting crimes. But then you have Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller and all that peppy upbeat swing and orchestra music that just makes you want to tap your foot and smile when you hear it because you feel instantly happy!

  • @thornie123

"tap your foot and smile ..........."

I do and all other fellows with sensible heart will do!

    Best wishes to you

  • @thornie123 This is true talent. Being able to play a real instrument and putting it all together, with class that lets people forget about their problems and the worlds problems (even if only for a little while) i mean what is not to love about that?

  • @thornie123 Oh, if only violence and hate were as simple as what music a person listens to...

    Don't be so naive.

  • @TheGlassDot Completely agree.

  • @TheGlassDot Don't be so cynical. Uplifting music is more uplifting than downer music. Encourage the positive. Not only does it not hurt, it can help you fell better as well as the one you are encouraging.

  • @kozoveetch I'm not being cynical, I'm being realistic. thornie123 makes believe that the problems of the world stem from the music people listen to. This is naive, and ignores the real issues.

As I said to raspberriesandar, people aren't as easily defined as the music they listen to. I and many others listen to plenty of non-"uplifting" music, and it has never driven me to violence. If you'd like to sample, search for "Ehnahre - Part I".

    Again, don't be naive.

  • @TheGlassDot Nah.. The kind of music you hear has a direct correlation with your iq behavior etc etc..

  • @TheAgnwristos It may have an effect, but it certainly is not black and white, "I listen to Classical, so I'm brilliant, and he listens to rap, so he's not."

Again, life isn't junior-high. Music does give *some* definition to *some* people. But this acting like it's the core motivator to the actions of people is just flat out naive.

It paints a pretty Disney-esque picture, where if we all just learn to love Glenn Miller, there would be no violence. Ha!

  • @TheGlassDot You over-simplify.. I never said that you can judge by the bare fact that you listen Classical or Rap at a certain period..

If you listen to X,Y,Z songs of Classical or to T,G,F songs of rap does not prove your intelligence nor much about your character.. But professional profilers can easily detect possible behaviors and acknowledgements that you would make on certain situations based on a data of 2 months of what you listen to.

  • @TheAgnwristos The over-simplification was in the comment that I first replied to. That was precisely my problem with it.

With what you are suggesting, it must ignore stray data. For example, I know a guy who only listens to gangster rap. He, being from a middle class environment, with a proper education, and majoring in philosophy will likely react very differently in a situation, opposed to the stereotypical listener of gangster-rap.

This is much more due to environment, rather than music.

  • @TheGlassDot stop being so mean and grouchy! there is nothing naive about the knowing the power of music in the world. Look at the rap culture for proof!

  • @raspberriesandar Yes, you can look at the "rap culture" and say, "what an unhealthy way of life", but then you're ignoring the people outside of the "rap culture" who listen to rap and live healthy, charitable and loving lives.

Music doesn't define every single person in the world, like you might think when you're in junior-high. There are many more powerful things that will drive people to hate and violence than music. Try money and power.

Don't be so naive. You're ignoring the real issues.

  • @thornie123 You're wrong, The problem is there is always going to be hate in the world.. say everyone writes music like this, people will hate on other artists who write their own songs. People just hate eachother. Also, There will always be just as much hate and crime. I mean I'm not saying this music is BAD. I'm just saying people hate eachother.

  • @thornie123

    Hei brother in mind!

    YOU ARE SOOOOOOOOOOO RIGHT!!!!!!!!

Thank you and welcome to our small "club" and go on with your way of thinking.

    God bless you.

    Jo from Germany

  • @thornie123 finally!!!! i think it too!

  • @thornie123 beautiful comment! totally agree that the ugly world we have now would be totally better if everyone listened to swing and had some old fashioned class , dignity and style! love you taste & comment -you are a special teenager.

  • Su ingles es perfecto por esta cancion, pero no sabia que cantaba ingles tambien! Se escucha como un cantante tipico de esa epoca, pero en el sentido de los mejor de esa epoca/ His English is perfect for this song, but I was not aware that he sang in English as well! He sounds like a typical singer from that era, but in the better sense of the word typical. Das ist schön:-)

  • Slightly too fast.

  • This is wonderful stuff, I think I just found one of my new favorite bands.

  • I was lucky enough to see Max Raabe and the Palastorchester in Berlin years ago...an unforgettable night

    Thanks for posting this!

  • Marlene Dietrich sang this song for her screen test for Die blaue Engel, and

did a humorous version. Max also does a beautiful job. It's a treat to hear some

    real music again.

  • Great bands (like this) make sure that great music (like this) never dies!

  • Fabulous!

  • Anyone - Where can I get the non-live version of this?

Or, what album is this song from??

Please help, I need it for my short-film x)

  • My bother just turned me on to this group. I simply LOVE it!

  • cool

  • What a great job of recreating the music, and particularly the mood.

  • WITHOUT WORDS

  • in german it´s "Du bist die Sahne in meinem Kaffee"!

  • Happy fun jazz. TY.Candy.

  • It's the exact replica of the version of Jack Hylton in 1928 just a little faster. It's absolutely wonderfull, he brings you back in the 30s!

  • absolutely love this guy and his group...much fun and all so talented

  • @ralphrita1 - I agree. Max is superb, as always - and this tune showcases the orchestra so well. Hard to beat this version of a wonderful old standard.

  • The arrangement is virtually the same as the Jack Hylton original BUT as little faster and better for it. This must be the best recording of the song, ever! Now where do I go and see the band live? - preferably without the rain!

  • @m222rjr Max has a version with slower tempo, but I agree with you, this one is better. This has to be the best rendition since the Ted Weems record back in the late '20s. In any event, what a compliment to the songs and bands of that long-vanished era, that orchestras and fans are presenting and enjoying their works today.

  • La orquesta suena fantastica, limpia, vibrante, alegre ...Max Raabe tiene una voz que ya la quisieran mas de uno y de dos...

  • Best version EVER of this classic American song. His group is probably the best orchestral jazz troupe in history, a great song. But who is this gorgeous violist? I could look it up, but she just makes this band fabulous,

  • @Bobchai Her name is Hanne Berger. She left the band in 2007 :-( Now her place is taken by another beautiful violist Cecilia Crisafulli

  • @tollbach Anyone know why Hanne Berger left? She had a stage presence to rival Max even :-)

  • @lilythepink123 - Couldn't have said it better myself!

  • Unglaublich, eben die Krönung dieses Zeitalters. Bravo Max Raabe!

  • Great!!!*****5 stars Thanks!!

  • Wow !!! This is superb !

    Thanks for sharing.

  • great recording

  • Aah back to the days of Jazz and dance bands wonderful..

  • INCREDIBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! A step back into 1928!

From the Broadway production of 'Hold Everything, which opened on 10 October 1928 at the Broadhurst Theatre and ran for 409 performances!

The tempo, the style, the set - all absolute PERFECTION !! I added this to my Music of 1928 playlist.

My channel offers over 500 playlists of a century of music from around the world. 111 lists let you listen to any past year like you've stepped back in time.

This video is one of the best I've found ! ! !

  • Great posting Thumbs up my friend

    Claude

  • Dennis Potter would have loved this!

  • Und mein Herz wird zu einem saftigen Steak ! Schwere zeiten bringen das beste im menschen hervor ...

  • I wonder if any of his fans dress up as gangsters or men about town or flappers when they go to hear them.

  • @Perktube1 They do dress up. I saw him in Oakland, California, in February 2010. I dressed in my 20s gangster suit. And, many men and women dressed in period costume for the concert.

  • I saw this performances last night & fell in love with his music!

  • klasse....

  • I'm seeing then at Carnigie Hall on March 4, I'm SOOO excited!!

  • Vraiment Charlotte? Bon eh bien, je t'envie beaucoup... beaucoupbeaucoupbeaucoup!

    You lucky girl...

  • Brave Sound !!!

Kinda dejavú and good stuffs !!

    Thanks for sharing

  • HEY! THIS IS GREAT STUFF! it amost sounds like the original (just kinda faster)

  • Thanks for the video! They are fantastic.

  • I'm a new fan!

  • Me too! Max Raabe <3

  • With the saxes, splash cymbals, tuba, banjo, violin lead and scat breaks he sure creates a sound pretty darn close to original, perhaps even better than hearing it on a 78 with scratches, clicks, hisses, etc. And it's a little embarrasing that the country that originally composed and popularized great songs like this one never fostered a rebirth of such a fabulous presentation.

  • @1276epr - yes, yes, YES !!! EXACTLY!!! See my comment ! ! ! I'll be adding everything of Max's I can find into my playlists, now ! ! !

  • @chkjns I just LOVE THIS GUY!!! He`s just AWESOME, And is helping to keep these WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL, songs alive! Thank You chkins for sharing this weit Me.

  • PFX Productions- To elucidate your wonder: Max Raabe singing in English shames most American singers by his better elocution, which is appropriate in his tuxedo, refined style, subtle humor, whimsical charm, epitomizing the last Epoch of Art in our Culture, the 1920s-30s Art Deco period he revivifies here, after decades of excess of rock-headed roll out of show-offs' neurotic noise. Delightfully refreshing is Max Raabe and his truly entertaining, refined, amusing, Palast orchester of Berlin!

  • Bacchusland: you are 100% correct, he certainly embodies a throwback to an elegant era, including a superb performance from his orchestra.

    -Eric, USA

  • Just came acorss few secs ago I LOVE HIM! but is he British?

  • Max Raabe is very clearly German.

  • wasnt sure thanks...for sounds proper bitish to me..but I guess just he has good speech sorry ahha

  • @HMSPolychrest Indeed but what an excellent sound

  • @johnster1964

My original comment was in response to a user who thought Raabe was perhaps of British extraction.

  • @HMSPolychrest Yes, but he signs in what they call American Theatre Standard, or mid-Atlantic English - what all the great singers and movie stars of the period would speak, in order to appeal to both UK and USA audiences. I think they call it "boarding school accent" today :-) So it's not so strange people would misidentify it.

  • @HMSPolychrest He certainly is. Please clear up a matter of confusion for me... is this mean to be offensive? Or were you referring to the absolute perfection with which he portrays the mannerisms, singing style, even facial expressions of the time?

  • @Woelfin001

A year ago, another YouTube user asked if he was British. To answer his question, I stated that he is, "very clearly German." No offense intended at all. And you are correct, his performances are absolutely perfect. I listen to his music frequently.

  • @HMSPolychrest No, I must apologise. Once I read through the entire thread I could place your comment in the correct context. Unfortunately many people like to relive past wars in the anonymity of the internet and I am used to reading offensive comments when the content has any connection to Germany. I took this the wrong way. I am glad to see that Max Raabe has an international following, he is a great artist. Greetings, Woelfin.

  • @Woelfin001

he's international !! I just love his voice and look and i'm french . don't speak a word of german though . should do something about it since i'm going to Germany to listen to him in January .... learn his songs by h eart ?????? lol ...

  • @romdomi Wow, that's real dedication. Perhaps it would suffice to get a good translation of the lyrics and go dressed in style :-) Which concert will you be visiting, perhaps I'll come too :-)

  • @Woelfin001

I only recently noticed that my old comment has 72 'likes.' If people like it because they thought I was commending him for his nationality, I am very happy with that, too. To be German is to excel in every way.

  • Bravo! Come to England sooner rather than later!

  • Henderson, Desilva and Brown, a great songwriting threesome.

Get the movie "The best things in life are free, it's the songwriters story.

  • He sounds more 30s than 30s, a pastiche, hamming it up, but it is a great tune!

  • where's my f:ing time machine?

It seems to me that life is a lot less fun nowadays...

People who make their children wear biking helmets, smoking bans, security vests, blahblahblah.

I wanna get back to the the thirties and get shitfaced!

  • Delighted to "discover" Mr. Raabe!

Thank you very much. I LOVE this!!!

  • Wow, I love this song at this tempo. I think I may like it more than the version that's on the CD.

    Great upload.

  • What beautiful and enthusiastic music.....fantastic!

  • My arms are flailing and my feet are high kicking to this one!

  • Hot stuff!

  • I've never heard this preformed so fast and so well. Well done on his account!

  • What smashing music - as always in the Max Raabe manner!
