  • Why couldnt we watch THIS version in school not the fucked up donald duck version where the ghost of christmas yet-to-come was smoking a giant ass blunt and during this scene in the version we watched, donald gets sucked into hell.

  • I feel like I'm looking in a mirror.

  • Millions of grains of SAND in the world, why such a lonely BEACH.

  • Aww, such a sad little boy... oooooh, wish he stayed away from those high notes. And to all those people who think he was saying "beach"... no, no he was not. : P

  • press 3 to hear for yourself ;)

  • Comment removed

  • They say "Why such a lonely beach." three times in the kid version, and once in the adult version and none of these times they say "Why such a lonely bitch." for one that doesn't make any sense in context and two it's a kids movie. However you can miss hear it to bitch all you want it however will not change the fact hes saying beach all four times it's said

  • He said Beach not bitch! Listen to the lyrics. Grains of sand make a beach not a bitch.

  • @mdfield1 he said bitch i listened to it like 15 times and all of them said bitch

  • lol he said bitch

  • Forever Alone.

  • DID HE JUST SAY BITCH

  • lol 1:19

  • a hand for each hand was planned ~

  • Quincy Magoo is such a consumate actor . . .

  • Forver alone

  • 1:19 why such a loney bitch?!!

  • This is, in my opinion, the perfect song to represent the true nature of Beast Boy. The young shape-shifter may act goofy and moronic but deep down, he feels just like young Scrooge used to.

In a way, BB is one of the few titans that truly feels alone in the world. He watched his parents die, when he felt that he could somehow save them, countless numbers of guardians either died as well or left him, the other titans barely respect him and don't get me start on the Douche Patrol.

  • i can see why 12 people don`t like it but then again it dose show the sadness that even in old toons such as this can show power of truth

  • those nasty ass illuminatis...

  • WTF WHAY SUCH LONELY BITCH AT 1:58

Thumbs up if u hear it :D

  • @123naib Lol thats what he says!

  • @spongebobcrazy123:

STFU ok do u really think anyone

cares about what you have to say on here?

    Learn to shut up fag...

I feel bad for your parents having to deal with this everyday

  • @nikkichick1999 Hey shutup. He said he knows how that kid feels. He didn't go into a huge monologue about his "woes" calm the hell down and stop trying to dish out crap you probably can't even take.

  • This is why there is 1% controlling the entire population

  • saddest song in cartoon history?nope,Chuck Testa

  • This is how my life is.

  • Nope

  • Oh yes, I remember this one. It actually did make me cry, especially when I tried putting myself in young Scrooge's shoes.

  • I love the music in this film. I wish the soundtrack were available.

  • @drxcreatures i was able to buy the soundtrack through itunes. it should still be available.

  • @Wickie16 Thanks :)

  • he sounds like a girl

  • at 1:20 did he say "lonely bitch"?

  • @SarioandMonic beach

  • @simsgirlgem its a joke dude

  • @simsgirlgem dont bother answering his question he will just be rude! the sarioandmonic person is a BITCH

  • @SarioandMonic no he said why such a lonley beach :)

  • @SarioandMonic so what! i didnt know! you didint nead to call me a faggot for answering your question! YOU CHILL! rude!

  • WOW! Thank you!

  • Reminds me of myself.

  • @SuperKittyKatKitty

    that makes two of us

  • Great video. Thanks for the post. Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol is an excellent rendering of the Dickens tale.

  • @envime03psb you ever been lonely? it dont feel good

  • la soledad es es triste pero es muy buena a veces.=(

  • One thing I noticed is that nearly all of the dialogue (with some exceptions, and of course the songs) is verbatim Charles Dickens. I watch this every year at Christmas, along with Patrick Stewart's A Christmas Carol. Neither has an equal.

  • This cartoon is fantastic. I had battld and servived depression and even with family and friends around at that time ifelt like this. Thank God not anymore

  • press 3 for lonely bitch

  • Comment removed

  • Oh Magoo, you've done it again.

  • Maybe this is just nostalgia talking, but I've seen SEVERAL versions of A Christmas Carol, and I find this one one of the most moving and harsh versions.

  • lonely bitch

  • @Shadowstep225 Oh man, I know tht song well!!! I can relate to the lil boy in that song and movie so well, I lost my mom when I was only seven.

  • Every time I hear this song I think of my Grandma. This was her favorite song from this cartoon :(

  • even though i was an early 90's kid (1990) this was my childhood

  • i know EXSACTALY how that kid feels

  • there is a book (available at amazon) that is the story behind Mr Magoos Christmas Carol. They had top notch broadway composers writing the music- and this was the very first annual Christmas animated special, opening the way to Charlie Brown, Rudolf and the rest. I make my kids watch it with me every Christmas as a family tradition. We make razzleberry pudding and sit down for the show.

  • Young Scrooge was smart enough to know that sometime in the future, an older version of him would duet with him in that song.

  • it's interesting how it has always been socially acceptable for cartoons to depict the average person with four fingers instead of five... no one, not even kids question it as being strange or abnormal, it's just one of those things, i guess.

  • This is not the saddest song ever this is only a song about a boy trying to get a girl

  • Ah,how I remember THIS.....

  • me.

  • wtf?

  • i also watched this as a child in thye 60's. it kind of dissappeared from the annual christmas cartoon line up but i have no idea why. i also think it was done very well and years later when i found it & watched it, i couldn't believe that i still remembered the words to most of the songs which really says something about the quality of the songs in this cartoon. wish they would start airing it again.

  • @dondi1961

My guess is that it disappeared because Mr. Magoo was deemed to be un-PC. The notion of laughing at a man who has vision difficulties doesn't quite make it in today's society. Its a shame for two reasons. First, as you said, this film was very well done, and very true to the source material. Second, the humor of Mr. Magoo wasn't in the fact that he was near-sighted, but rather in his stubborn refusal to acknowledge that he was near-sighted and do something about it.

  • @4a8p9x

Mr Magoo's actual visual impairment is a metaphor for his life. He doesn't see the truth when it's staring him in the face. It's a good parody of people in our society. Many prefer to keep their heads in the sand rather than see the truth right in front of them. (People take a side & want to be right, so they don't want to look at all the facts if it means they could be wrong about something)

That's also why he was perfect for the role of Scrooge. Here, he finally sees the hard truth.

  • @Dudeyowuzup

yeah wasn't his blindness originally political commentary?

  • Wow I loved this cartoon the best back then,, for christmas,, what a message an yes it was so soooo sad it made me cry every time,, mister magoo, I love it, they don't make em like this anymore that's for sure

  • no this is not the sadest song ..i think the saddest song is shitsui from naruto shippunden or another name for it is destiny

  • I don't remember this (I was born in '61) but yeah, this is a sad song/segment.

Very depressing considering it's something for children.

Many lonely people in the world....many.

  • very sad song but not the saddest ever. I think Belle singing Winter was warm later on in the movie was much sadder

  • I was dancing and smiling to this lol

  • could this cartoon be referring to people that couldn't believe in God during their lives due to neglect/abandonment in childhood and loneliness in adulthood(they do not hear a voice back, no hand in reach) and in the afterlife suffers alone while all the Christians are up in heaven.(look at the graveyard) The spirit sends him back to the grave because the spirit does not believe in him now that he finally believes in the spirit. poor Ebenezer scrooge. this is sad.

  • @rco334 Well, that took a reach to get to THAT point to shoehorn in a religious comment.

  • The line is lonely beach. The line before it says millions of grains of sand in the world. Sand/beach......

  • haha not sad :P

  • one small thing i noticed, when mr. macgoo jumps in, young scrooge sings the harmony - if this was in the past, and young scrooge was alone, why is he singing harmony if there is no one to sing with? shouldnt Mr. Macgoo Be singing harmony?

  • @beatles123 He could be singing a duet with an imagined friend, the one he needs so badly, or his absent sister.

  • @beatles123 Maybe he had to stay behind because he flunked vocal music class and he was trying to bone up on harmonies.

  • 18 and still obsessed with cartoons :D

  • Boy, you're not exaggerating when you call this the saddest cartoon song ever. The first time I heard this, I almost cried. That's saying a lot, since I don't cry too easily. Even now, the song still hits me where it hurts.

  • it DOES sound like they're saying lonely bitch o.o

  • I have always thought the words to this song when I was in a lonely mood and feeling sad,I was lucky to record this show from the Disney Channel years ago.

  • Dont take me wrong ppl but seriously I was so close to sleep. It was boring

  • I always thought it was an SIMPSONS Joke

  • lol wtf wtf wtf he what vid is this he sayd bitch............. lol

  • this song moved me as a child in 1963, and it still does today

  • lonely bitch

  • I remember this as a child having been born in 1958 and still the sad echoes haunt me. Now at 52 and having never been married or had any children...I'M ALL ALONE IN THE WORLD

  • @GregDrayGregDray I hear ya Greg!

  • MR MAGOO

  • Whoa, Ebbie! Everybody gotta go some time.

  • How is it sooo sad?

  • shi-shit. I mean, gee, this is pretty damn depressing for a Magoo cartoon, ESPECIALLY a christmas one.

  • sorry, i meant snoopy come home

  • i'd personally go with "it changes" in a boy named charlie brown. I cant not cry whenever i watch it.

  • No....no... NOOOO! I Remember this fomr whene i was a kid....Aaah hell *Crying*

  • As an 11-year-old, I tape recorded this show (audio only) off the air when it was first broadcast in 1962 and listened to it many times thereafter. The music and lyrics are so good, and the voice actors -- esp. Jim Backus, of course -- seem to really be giving this project their all. A very smart and clever show that seems to stay in people's memories a long time. Thanks for posting.

  • Funny, I did something similiar as a kid - and you're right, the voice work and musical segments are so well crafted you can still see it in your mind's eye without the visuals.

  • @Orsley Glad to see I'm not the only goof who used to do that! I did it for Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, Hans Brinker and several other shows. This is still one of my fave sad songs all these years later!

  • yes i saw this I think right when it was on TV, and I still hold it so dear

  • loved it when

    i was a kid

    and i still do

    classic!

  • This is heartbreaking even after 40+ years since I last seen it. I think the most bizzare cartoon was the the Passion Week of Christ. With Popeye playing the part of Jesus. "Where are all the Apostculees when you neegst them?" Please excuse my blasphemy, I think our Lord has a sense of humor...I hope.

  • Oh wow that made me laugh

  • I know....Museum but my Catholic guilt prevents me from using it too much.

  • I think the Catholics have way more things to be guilty about :(

I am an ex one my self.

  • there's something incredibly profound and impacting about Scrooge singing while sitting on his own grave.

  • that first ghost was a real flammer

  • Made me cry then, made me cry now. Just played it for my 2 year-old...made him cry too.

  • That Jim Backus, what a voice!, LoL,

truly a heavy song, touched me than as a kid and had the same feelings now as an adult.

    Thanks for posting.

  • Thank you for your comment wowinkorporated. Have you had the chance to read Darrell Van Critter's new book "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Christmas Carol"The Making of the First animated Christmas Special? I read it and it's well worth the price.

  • I LOVE this clip, especially the way the reprise is edited in. This is perhaps one of my most favorite entries on You Tube............I watch it often.

  • Wow.... what a nice thing to say.... THANK you. Nice people on YouTube, how 'bout that? heh heh

  • And all this time I was waiting for Pink Panther or Bugs Bunny to come along and perform those zany slapstick shenanigans of theirs.

    ...

    ...

Just like when I saw Grave of the Fireflies.

  • THANK YOU, this song has been making me cry for 30 yrs!

  • Try watching "grave of the fireflies"

  • yeah i heard its good grave of the fireflies thanks for reminder:)

  • hahaha he is good at doing things with his eyes closed...hahahahah

  • i need depriction pills now

  • do you mean depression pills?

  • hahahahahaha

  • I now imagine this song sung by Tom Waits. How well fitting

  • Thank You for posting this and no..I can think of no sadder cartoon song.

  • Lonely bitch. Lmfao

  • I thought so too, but it's just the way the crane is flapping his wings. However, you play this clip backwards it DOES say "turn me on dead man".

  • LOL these comments made my day XD

  • 1:18 - Lonely Bitch? lol

  • What, you think the kid has a Spanish accent? heh heh heh

  • That's what it sounded like to me lol

  • hahahaha lonely beach maybe?

  • @BubbyGirl96 I think he said lonely beach.

  • @BubbyGirl96 yes, that's what I heard as an adult. But it is a sad scene, lovely little song.

  • @BubbyGirl96 lonely BEACH

  • did he say why a lonley bitch?

  • Why such a lonely BEACH :)

  • the movien deals with a lot of issues

    way ahead of its time

    A HAND FOR A HAND

    MERRY CHRISTMAS

  • This is one of the movie's I grew up with so I used to cry to this song when I was younger T.T

  • I like when old Magoo joins in. He kind of leaps in, doesn't he?

  • Luckily, he's in perfect harmony with his younger self, haha. Amazing song!
