Unlucky!! it's heart-wrenching to see these guys fail. usually with this challenge you can tell if they're gonna make it b4 they even let go & he was keeping that bar real steady so you think he'll make it, but........
@cooliox27 you wanna try doing it? no? didnt think you would... its a bloody achievement get the the 4th stage so why are you saying "he aint that great"?
Its fucking stupid they put the platform so far after their extremely war out. The first ninja warrior winner only did it because in that season they didn't have the body prop then after it was made...everyone got so wore out and extremely strained on the shoulders and lower back.
I'm not saying Akyama wasn't good but he had an easier course :S
yes he had an easier 1-3rd stage but the 4th stage rope climb is the hardest 4th stage ever...and he even did it whit 6seconds left so i think he deserved hes victory ;)
@dieallsix about the platform, i read somewhere (wikipedia i think, so it's not much of a concrete source) that an error in design made the pipe slider in those 3rd stages much tougher because they had to undulate themselves to the end and when they had to jump across the big gap, the pipe would slide backwards as they swing. now, with the "final ring" or "pipe jump" i think it's called, in the new third stage, the last rung/few inches of support are slanted downward to prevent this error. :)
i watched an episode tonight, quite old ad its on challenge. He didn't complete the first course he just managed to get up the warped wall but he ran out of time, he said he wasn't going to compete again?
To answer your question, back in the day he was thought to be one of the best and most likely to complete the course, now maybe nt so, but everyone still respects him and admires his dedication. So he is known as Mr. Ninja Warrior (Mr. Sasuke in Japan)
That last jump is brutal. It takes out so many competitors no matter how much they dominated the rest of Stage 3. We still believe in you Mr. Sasuke!!!
Flippin eck, what a shame. The prize money is apparently quite big and as only two people have ever completed it, it's a big deal if you manage it. So to dedicate so much time (as the top guys do) and go out like that is a right cunt. I reckon that landing area could be better. Even Nagano just landed on the edge and held on.
I feel for him. He's been a great contender the WHOLE time i seen him. He devoted so much time to training for this show. I am sure he won't return. But if he does then i will be full-on screaming at my TV and showing my full support!!
He was good in the early series, but as time went on he became worse and worse. He should've quit when he was ahead, instead of continuing to pursue the impossible dream.
Something's wierd about Yamada. For some reason I think he trains a lot but then fails possibly on purpose just for attention. He was much better in the older tournaments. One reason is because back then they referred to him as "Naninawa Terminator". Then he was referred to as Mr. Sasuke, which might have made him think his ego was more important than winning. He turned his runs into montages, starting with Sasuke 6. The point is, I think he thinks he should fail on purpose for the attention.

The course is easy. It's not an ungodly difficult thing like everyone makes it out to be.
That weight they added to the bar was enough to stop Levi. THAT'S how weak he is. What's even funnier is that he said he had been working on his upper body strength for six months. Some work out routine.
You know, I was never a fan of Katsumi. Not saying he wasn't skilled or didn't have the heart, I just got into it around the time Nagano was steamrolling through the courses
That was one of the most heartbreaking things I ever saw. He has trained his entire career to beat the course but it still is out of his reach. As for him making it, he didn't pass into the second red square before he fell off so he didn't make it. As for him crying.. That shows what a real man he is. Even if you don't see them training think they do, Makoto uses his boat, Shingo uses his workplace and the rest have mock courses at their homes. To them, Ninja Warrior is life, give them respect.
he has done 19 tourneys and nvr won the entire event, wish he could win once to accomplish his dreams except year after year training w/ out relaxation
Shingo Yamamoto's been in every tournament to date and HE hasn't won either. Such a shame that he made it to the final stage and then dislocated his shoulder..I used to think Katsumi Yamada would win it all eventually, but after some of his pathetic stage 1 attempts, (when he fell OFF the course after completing the Bridge of Blades comes to mind) and THAT fall...well, I just don't believe he can do it anymore. He's over age 40 now and stunningly has very little experience on the 3rd stage.
I saw this and I'm sure many of you also saw the one where he got disqualified in the second stage for not taking off his gloves before enting the Spider Walk. He just seems to get the worst luck out of everyone.
I deeply wish Yamada would win. I think he has not trained as much lately as he did in the past, but if he would get the spirit up, i'm sure he could win, although the course is extremely difficult now. He really would have deserved to get to the final stage in this and the 10th tournament, but i guess he was just very unlucky... :(
Not really dude. He is a very dedicated man. I had the chance to meet him in person once. He aint a quitter. He continues to loose these days but he still comes back time after time ot try again.
He's 42 now, guys. Think he'll EVER make it to the 2nd stage, especially with how hard the first stage is? I mean, Bunpei's 40, so he's gonna run into the age factor soon, too. BTW... Isn't our favorite competitor, Makoto Nagano something like 37?
Lazy? Are you kidding me? The First Stage is crazy hard now, and I think age may be a slight factor. After all, he made it during the 10th, 11th and 12th competitions.
The first stage is not as hard for those who train insanely. Look at Nagano. He doesn't look like he's having that hard of a time.
Yamada, on the other hand, doesn't work very hard while training. While watching all his training clips, I'm never wondering why he can't do it anymore.
The first stage is hard for almost everyone. Only 5 people out of 200 in the last two tournaments cleared the first stage, and even Nagano failed once. Of those 5, only one made it past the second stage, and even he only got to the Cliff Hanger. The first stage is extremely difficult now, even for the All Stars.
He barely has any strength. Did you see him lift the heavy walls? Did you see how he got tired so easily in stage three? Did you see him lose on the Salmon Ladder when they added weight to it? His upper body is weak.
Pound for pound, Nagano is the best. He's small and light but he has good strength and amazing endurance. Levi is nothing next to him.
