he just doesn't look fast! I'm use to seeing short guys like Dix move their legs a million times a minute, but he just looks like he's prancing along...at world record speeds...amazing!
looking at the video in slow mo the only comparison which comes to mind is a V12 ferrari -bolt- going up against turbocharged 4 cylinder honda civics-everybody else..it's just the brute power he generates from his legs which separates him from everybody else + leg speed faster than that of shorter guys..a freak indeed..
@roxtar55 i see where your coming from, but being a 6'3 foot sprinter myself, i know i cannot possibly come out of the blocks faster than someone who is say 5'7 or 5'8, without working on them for some amount of time
@roxtar55 you must know nothing about lifting, the shorter you are the easier it is to squat, the center of gravity is different, and of coarse they have to go down 7 less inches.
i've never seen this in slow motion or from this angle before. until now, i see that i didn't really have a true understanding or appriciation for how much further he was from the competiton. i don't think anyone can if they haven't seen this. he is so fast!!
@Manuelcr7 Well technically knee height is irrelevent. He's just pushing down into the ground with more force. However, he does have great muscle elasticity, which is muscle hardness combined with flexibility. And as you can see, his stride is larger than the others, which is partly due to greater muscle flexibility. Flexibility is such an undermined attribute in track and field, at least on the high school level.
@Manuelcr7 Rubbish. You need to watch the video again.
And anyway, I thought American Football was the only institution backwards enough to still believe "knee driving" is a good thing. Usain falls. Proof of that can been seen in that his feet land more parallel to his head and hips than his competitors do.
@codeyantiassembly i think he meant knee 'lift'. high knee's is a good thing, if the knees are too low you'll limit your stride length and force output.
@codeyantiassembly I understand the pose method but he is so tall 6'5. So he has more ground contact time during the same speed. So he can produce more power because he has more time. The taller the athlet the faster he is.
When you said "knee drive" though, all I could think of was this stupid Football coach showing his players how to run on a conditioning for speed DVD I have. He taught them, literally to lift their knees to their chests and drive them as hard as they could into the ground. Because, you know, it generates power.
his last 8 strides were all easy.. at 2.5m per stride thats 20m..

Anybody notice that he was still trailing at 50M? Then to win by as much as he did is just ungodly
CerebralPrince10 9 months ago
@CerebralPrince10 yea cus in first 40-50m you must run with head down then gradually bring it up your ment to be trailing near the start
isoloedyourmum 8 months ago
@CerebralPrince10 he is 6'5... it is more challenging coming out of the blocks vs. someone who is 6 foot
MrNielsen23 6 months ago
@MrNielsen23 Not necessarily. Just takes longer to get triple extension. However, he possesses longer levers, which actually make the load easier.

@MrNielsen23 Wow, somebody needs to hit the weights then.
roxtar55 6 months ago
@roxtar55 yeah.. i guess squatting 405 when im 16 isnt good enough.... which is also difficult when your 6'3"
MrNielsen23 6 months ago
@MrNielsen23 Wow that is pretty weak for having such long levers. i've seen guys 160 5'5" doing 500.

Here you can see why bolt is much faster then everyone.
The angle between his legs is much higher then from other sprinters.
He have the highest knee drive.

powell wasn't as relaxed as he usually is in this race though which is why he didn't come second!
