@caseman86 The Ex-Box sound is very similiar. It is definitely louder and a little lower in tone. I really didn't want to loud of an exhaust system where I was waking up neighbors in the early morning, and mainly got the Ex-Box for its looks.....I love not having any pipes on the side of the bike.......
ok, you must have an older version. the newer ones have a baffle that goes in the top outlet of the box that is removable. i'm not sure when they started that though. thanks for the reply. Also i will be doing my installation soon, are there any gaskets i need to get from my ducati dealer for installation?
@jim60631 I used the OEM gaskets from the stock exhaust. I only had 1100 miles on the bike and so they were clean. Don't make the mistake as I did, use exhaust joint sealant , something like Permatex, on all your joints while installing. I didn't do this and relied on the joints being a tight fit, they were not, and had 2 joints that leaked.....so I had to dis-assemble and re-install a second time with the joint sealer..
Wow. Great video. I want that exhaust...you sure made it look easy. two questions...first, do you think an average non-gearhead could easily handle this? Second, did you have to do anything like having to get a power commander? I don't want to have the bike running rough or become more high maintenance. Just want a sweeter, slightly louder exhaust, but can't find slip ons I like. I love that look of eliminating them altogether. Great bike!
It's the open performance dry clutch....Ducatis have a dry clutch, which because there is no oil and no need for an enclosed housing to "hold" the oil, most Ducati owners remove the clutch cover and replace it with an open cover which exposes the spinning clutch plate "to view". You can tell its a Ducati when you hear that rattle. Most other bikers think your bike is falling apart cause they don't know what it is and need to ask first before making a bad comment on your bike. Thanks for asking!
thanks for the response. I don't much care for that sound, but I was wondering what that clicking was. It's a shame too, i really like the beefy sound of ducatis, but that clicking has me looking at something else now.
Once the clutch engages you never hear it. And if you leave the stock enclosed cover on you can barely hear it in the first place. The open cover is just a draw for some I guess. Don't let that discourage from buying a ducati. You need to get to a place where there are a lot of bikes and ducatis around, so you can see and hear in person. You cannot make a decision from hearing 1 video clip.
By the way, I have owned honda, kawasaki, yamaha, and suzuki....my favorite of all is the ducati S4R...... My wife is on a Ducati now too, she rides an M696.
I am overall happy with the ex-box look, wish the tone was deeper though. I get some popping (backfires) only on heavy decelerations, but not on gently decelerations....seems to be more so in second gear.
is it me or got the box nearly the same sound as original system?!?
