"The odds are a thousand to one, but they don't stand a chance." LOL!!! What a hilarious paradox! Hey, I love James Bond, and this is a great film, but I just have to point out how funny and ridiculous that line is!

Sorry, both those themes are from the You Only Live Twice soundtrack. The first is called Welcome to Japan, where Bond surfaces from the British submarine and onto the shores of Japan. The second is the Drop in the Ocean theme where Tiger's helicopter lifts the Spectre car by electro magnet and drops them in the sea of Japan.

There is one scene where Bond visits Osato Chemical Engineering as Mr. Fisher, and he is told by an employee that he's three and a half minutes early for his appointment to visit Mr. Osato. Half way through the film a group of Chinese men are seen speaking to Blofeld, the villain of the film. They represent the 'government' behind the financing of Blofeld's volcano and equipment. But rather than trying to make sense of the film, why not just enjoy it for what it is - pure entertainment.
Sorry vaj99, as a James Bond specialist, I just want to notice soemthing, the group of people who are financing the Spectre organisation are North Korean, not Chinese, wherever, the organisation are installed in China.
Every detail in the story was well defined. Big story and big movie, one of my favourites from the series §
with all these bond movies before daniel craig, you can just leave all those kinds of questions at the door and forget about asking them ever in your life again.
"Well, at least he died on the job." LOL! Love the Sean Connery "Bond" flicks! Now, if you all want to get technical, IMNSHO, the Timothy Dalton characterization is the *closest* to how "Bond" is depicted in Ian Fleming's novels, but, the S.C. ones are of my childhood; my first intro to this character, so, am partial to. What can I say? I'm fond o' this "Bond." *Great* theme song by Nancy Sinatra to this one; probably, the best! Second best, prolly, is the Carly Simon one. *Thanks for posting*!
@Mavarla What you say about Dalton is so true. I was a fan of the movies before I read the books, but when I did, the person I pictured with it was Dalton, the most ruthless and cunning of the Bonds.
@horatio118 Timothy Dalton is a *great* Actor---wonder if he read the novels before he elected to play the part? The "Bond" in the novels *IS* ruthless and rather cold (at least, he doesn't run around delivering one-liner, double entendres like the Film "Bonds" did---up until Daniel Craig).
@Mavarla Dalton did not have the physical presence to pull off being Bond. He looked like he needed to go to the gym. He also squinted all the time - it looked like he was crying. He also had a scene where he was angry - If you're a spy, you should have a cool head. The scene where he gets the girl's chello is just foolish - it looked like something from a high school tv show aimed at tween girls. He also throws away his "Bond, James Bond" line. No charm at all.
@Rogersocal---Your comment is informed by your impression of the character vis-a-vis the popular Films as opposed to mine (which, once more, w/ feeling [?] stems from Ian Fleming's novels); the Bond "line" is a Connery-era invention, not Fleming's, per se, and as far as the character retrieving the girl's instrument...surely, his REAL agenda was her great, big, hairy "hello"...and not her silly, old "chello."
You are entitled to your opinion, but I would watch YOLT over any of Brosnan's Bonds any day of the week. Talk about boring, I cannot watch his films at all.
True, and that has been a complaint for years. But YOLT the book was not epic enough after the globe threatening plot of the Thundeball film. YOLT is a great book, but a suicidal Bond would not have been great for the box office. Especially with Feldman's Casino Royale stealing Broccoli's thunder. No they needed a huge production. Although the book Moonraker was closer to what YOLT the film ended up being. So go figure.
@jksonny I think that much of the film (in modern terms) is laughable, but back then it was taken as enjoyable escapism...which is how it was meant.
Sure, Connery as an Asian is a joke, but Pleasance as Blofeld was so over-the-top that he epitomized the evil genius...and inspired Dr. Evil. That alone is worth something.
My favourite part is the fight wih Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's grandfather (Peter Maivia) near the beginning.
Welcome to Japan Mr. Bond, ha ha ha ha ha. It is a great pleasure to meet you at last. And how do you like our country so far? I'm a trifle disappointed at the ease in which I could pull you in. One thing my honorable mother told me, never get into a car with a strange girl, but you I'm afraid will get into anything with any girl.
You only live twice was a great movie. I like the way Aki saved Bonds hide twice from gunmen and Tanaka(Tiger) saved Bonds hide once by hitting Blofeld in the wrist with a thowing star before he could shoot Bond. Except it was a shame when Aki died from the poison.
Tell me about it. For one thing, it ruins the surprise about Karin Dor's death. This is a film which could stand an uprated and more professional trailer.

RaftCoveProductions: I'll take a stab -- probably the part where they try to pass Bond off as a Japanese man -- a form of yellowface. Despite this sign of the times, I always enjoyed this picture!
This was the Bond film that needed to show the public that it was NOT the silly Casino Royale film that was released two months before. The producers were concerned that the box office was going to be hurt if they did not do a big campaign. This is why you see throughout the trailer the tagline SEAN CONNERY IS JAMES BOND! Not David Niven or Peter Sellers; and that the film is the continuing series from the makers of Thunderball and Goldfinger.
@DaveBTHunt Yeah, this is a lot different when compared to modern trailers. Back then it was no big deal to show so much...not today where the movies are all trying to outdo each other with pretty limited stories.
this is the price of failure, mr bond *shoots ostato*
love that line, it's like in goldfinger (the laser), you really think bond's going to die. or at least his crotch burnt off. but that's not really in yolt xD
Obviously you've never seen THE AVENGERS. Truly Connery's worst film.
YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE is an epic film that will never be repeated simply because film makers cannot build a set piece such as the Volcano without costing near billions of dollars.
For moviegoers back in 1967, it was fantastic. If you did live back then, you simply cannot relate to it today.
How true your words are. Perfectly said! YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE is an epic film and one of the greatest adventure films ever made. Also, its soundtrack is unmatched in beauty.
Interesting that nothing of the fantastic title song, sung by Nancy Sinatra, is heard in this trailer. Maybe the music hadn't yet been finalised. Donald Pleasence (that's how it was spelt) was great as Blofeld -- he looks QUITE MAD. This trailer's narrator sounds Australian?
Amen,I agree. Now if only United Artists will adapt the James Gardner books like Licence Renewed,The Man From Barbarossa,Win Lose Or Die,Icebreaker,Scorpious,Nobody Lives Forever,Seafire,No Deals Mr. Bond,Cold Fall, ext, and get Pierce Bronson to play Bond for those film versions of the James Gardner James Bond stories, then the Bond series will continue on with much approval by fans.
United Artists is owned by Tom Cruise and is no longer connected with distributing or financing the Bond films. MGM is however.
Pierce Brosnan is gone and Daniel Craig is the second best Bond next to Connery.
The producers will not be making any films from the non-Ian Fleming titles because they have the rights to produce new titles and films. Why pay for the rights to John Gardner's books when you can save $500,000 and come up with your own title.
I like this film because of the extended plot that goes beyond simple action footage, and for the parts of the music score that differs from the stock Bond film scoring. It's almost as though 2 different orchestras and composers were used (?).
But we do need to set aside the absurdity of a giant Scottish Japanese village fisherman!
What? The guy that wrote Charlie And The Chocalate Factory wrote for a Bond movie? That's like Dr. Seus writing a screenplay for a Jason Bourne movie!
Call me crazy, but this was always my favorite Connery Bond film. Not taking away from any of the others because they were all classics, but this one i just love more
the first of the bond flics was 'dr. no'., then 'from russia with love', then 'goldfinger', then 'thunderball', then 'you only live twice'. that was the end of the connery 007's for a while. then an oddball came thru called 'on her majesty's secret service'. then the roger moore bond flics. i think they started with 'moonraker'. btw 'you only live twice' was my favorite also. i just couldn't get tired of looking at his japanese 'wife', who became somewhat of a superstar in japan d/t this role.
you are right dr no frwl goldfinger and thunderball were epics and large but they were not larger then life they were based on ian fleming books but y.o.l.t was a story that was not based on fleming book but was made up the only thing it was based on was the name of the book the story in the movie had nothing to do with the book this was the 1bond movie to discaard the story and use just the title
and ps it sounds like you did not like o.h.m.ss that was the closest to the ian fleming book that they got and it is the best of all the bond movies would have been better if connery did it that was one of the reasons why he quit because the movies started to center more on larger then life stories and the bond toys from Q O.H.M.S.S WAS MORE A HUMAN STORY TRY LOOKING AT IT AGAIN THAT WAS WHY C.R WAS BETTER THEN Q .O.S
He is the one fighting Connery with the sword at :13. His role is relatively short in this film but he has the best one-on-one fight scene in the film.
did you know that the guy you mentioned fighting bond with the sword at :13 was WWF wrestling, THE ROCK'S, (dwayne johnson) grandfather, peter maivia, who was also a famous wrestler in soamoa.
The next film, ON HER MAJESTY's SECRET SERVICE, with Lazenby, is one of my all-time favourites, along with this film, and THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. MOONRAKER was pretty good, too.
Before he went to Japan to make this film, Connery said some not-so-flattering things about Asian women--that they were not very sexy and that sort of stuff.
I always have liked Sean a lot as an actor, but after seeing this film I simply cannot imagine WHAT he was THINKING. Two of the hottest, sexiest women I have every seen in my life are in this movie, and they are both Japanese. Also in the bath scene there are even more Japanese beauties. A feast for the eyes!!!!
I was just thinking the same thing. The guy who's doing the narrative seems pretty monotone. I thought the movie was pretty good for it's time although Donald Pleasance as Blofeld? I thought Charles Gray would have been a better choice and apparently so did the producers because that's who he was cast as in Diamonds Are Forever.
Yes, I know, but what I was saying was that he would have made a better Bloefeld than Donald Pleasance. I also think Jack Lord made a good Felix Leiter and I think the series would have been better if they had these as regulars.
Connery should have stuck to his guns and not played Bond again after You Only Live Twice. In Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again he just did not cut it as Bond anymore. He looked too old and out of shape, compared to his first five Bond films
I agree, thegiantpigeon. Except, OHMSS in my opinion is among the top 10 Best Bonds; I liked Diana Rigg's Bond Girl persona and the high-speed bobsled race between JB and Blofeld @ the end.
There are ninjas in it,nuff said.

this is the price of failure, mr bond *shoots ostato*
love that line, it's like in goldfinger (the laser), you really think bond's going to die. or at least his crotch burnt off. but that's not really in yolt xD

You Only Live Twice Trailer was the worst film the Sean did.
vegunited06 2 years ago
Obviously you've never seen THE AVENGERS. Truly Connery's worst film.
YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE is an epic film that will never be repeated simply because film makers cannot build a set piece such as the Volcano without costing near billions of dollars.
For moviegoers back in 1967, it was fantastic. If you did live back then, you simply cannot relate to it today.
RaftCoveProductions 2 years ago
And it featured the best climatic fight scene I've seen in a Bond flick.
timberwolf84 2 years ago
I have vague memories of seeing it on the big screen in the first grade in 1967. One of my favorite Bond films!
Beamshipcaptain 2 years ago
How true your words are. Perfectly said! YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE is an epic film and one of the greatest adventure films ever made. Also, its soundtrack is unmatched in beauty.

The poorest Bond film Connery did has to be Diamonds Are Forever. The Avengers started out good but just fell right apart.

Moneypenny :-: "Oh, by the way, how was the girl?"
Bond :-: "Which girl?!"
Moneypenny :-: "The uh...Chinese girl we set you up with"
Bond :-: "Another five minutes, and I would've found out"

"no matter what the odds, they dont stand a chance against james bond." then why go see the movie?
billbillysparks 2 years ago
Interesting that nothing of the fantastic title song, sung by Nancy Sinatra, is heard in this trailer. Maybe the music hadn't yet been finalised. Donald Pleasence (that's how it was spelt) was great as Blofeld -- he looks QUITE MAD. This trailer's narrator sounds Australian?

"he's the one and only sean connery" that's correct. he is the best bond. (only my opinion)

Yeah, he's the best. The second is Pierce Brosnan
mfuarcefriul 2 years ago
Amen,I agree. Now if only United Artists will adapt the James Gardner books like Licence Renewed,The Man From Barbarossa,Win Lose Or Die,Icebreaker,Scorpious,Nobody Lives Forever,Seafire,No Deals Mr. Bond,Cold Fall, ext, and get Pierce Bronson to play Bond for those film versions of the James Gardner James Bond stories, then the Bond series will continue on with much approval by fans.
dragonknight1984 2 years ago
United Artists is owned by Tom Cruise and is no longer connected with distributing or financing the Bond films. MGM is however.
Pierce Brosnan is gone and Daniel Craig is the second best Bond next to Connery.
The producers will not be making any films from the non-Ian Fleming titles because they have the rights to produce new titles and films. Why pay for the rights to John Gardner's books when you can save $500,000 and come up with your own title.

Why did'nt he play in On her majesty's secret service and diamonds are forever?

I like this film because of the extended plot that goes beyond simple action footage, and for the parts of the music score that differs from the stock Bond film scoring. It's almost as though 2 different orchestras and composers were used (?).
But we do need to set aside the absurdity of a giant Scottish Japanese village fisherman!

It's crazu how Roald Dahl wrote the screenplay for this movie.

What? The guy that wrote Charlie And The Chocalate Factory wrote for a Bond movie? That's like Dr. Seus writing a screenplay for a Jason Bourne movie!

Call me crazy, but this was always my favorite Connery Bond film. Not taking away from any of the others because they were all classics, but this one i just love more

the first of the bond epics
llllkkiiiuik 2 years ago
I always felt that Thunderball was the first of the epics. Then again, every Bond film is an epic.
RaftCoveProductions 2 years ago
the first of the bond flics was 'dr. no'., then 'from russia with love', then 'goldfinger', then 'thunderball', then 'you only live twice'. that was the end of the connery 007's for a while. then an oddball came thru called 'on her majesty's secret service'. then the roger moore bond flics. i think they started with 'moonraker'. btw 'you only live twice' was my favorite also. i just couldn't get tired of looking at his japanese 'wife', who became somewhat of a superstar in japan d/t this role.
dale1966gto 2 years ago
you are right dr no frwl goldfinger and thunderball were epics and large but they were not larger then life they were based on ian fleming books but y.o.l.t was a story that was not based on fleming book but was made up the only thing it was based on was the name of the book the story in the movie had nothing to do with the book this was the 1bond movie to discaard the story and use just the title
llllkkiiiuik 2 years ago
and ps it sounds like you did not like o.h.m.ss that was the closest to the ian fleming book that they got and it is the best of all the bond movies would have been better if connery did it that was one of the reasons why he quit because the movies started to center more on larger then life stories and the bond toys from Q O.H.M.S.S WAS MORE A HUMAN STORY TRY LOOKING AT IT AGAIN THAT WAS WHY C.R WAS BETTER THEN Q .O.S
llllkkiiiuik 2 years ago
I love the voice over on this trailer XD

Wheres Peter Maivia, why didnt it show him in the trailer????
VJBLOOD10 2 years ago
He is the one fighting Connery with the sword at :13. His role is relatively short in this film but he has the best one-on-one fight scene in the film.
RaftCoveProductions 2 years ago
did you know that the guy you mentioned fighting bond with the sword at :13 was WWF wrestling, THE ROCK'S, (dwayne johnson) grandfather, peter maivia, who was also a famous wrestler in soamoa.

A feast for the eyes!!!!
trwent 3 years ago 2
Many Asian women are breathtakingly beautiful. He must've had a lousy day? And yes, the first Japanese Chick, Aki, was really gorgeous.

This trailer is so much more awesome than the shit trailers today.

His first Japanese girl in it was so cool...the one who was driving the white Toyota 2000...was so sad when she was killed.
This was one of the best JBs, with the Japanese ninja commando battle in the volcano.

I was just thinking the same thing. The guy who's doing the narrative seems pretty monotone. I thought the movie was pretty good for it's time although Donald Pleasance as Blofeld? I thought Charles Gray would have been a better choice and apparently so did the producers because that's who he was cast as in Diamonds Are Forever.
beachnikk 3 years ago
Charles Gray played a Brit agent in this movie. He was killed in the first half hour.
genldoz 3 years ago
Yes, I know, but what I was saying was that he would have made a better Bloefeld than Donald Pleasance. I also think Jack Lord made a good Felix Leiter and I think the series would have been better if they had these as regulars.
beachnikk 3 years ago
i love tokyo japan!
Wiishit23456withvids 3 years ago 3
Connery should have stuck to his guns and not played Bond again after You Only Live Twice. In Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again he just did not cut it as Bond anymore. He looked too old and out of shape, compared to his first five Bond films
clearcoat2000 3 years ago 3
Never Say Never Again was just a remake of Thunderball.

I agree, thegiantpigeon. Except, OHMSS in my opinion is among the top 10 Best Bonds; I liked Diana Rigg's Bond Girl persona and the high-speed bobsled race between JB and Blofeld @ the end.
