Narcissism is age appropriate here.. my opinion anyway. Once the brain further, and she discovers empathy - this all goes by the wayside.
For all the "real" narcissists that commented... take a hike! You do NOT have empathy for anyone, and your offended? By what? Someone else getting attn from a video? Plz!
Wow. Seems "Mr. American Boss" is "so great" that he never learned proper English. If narcissists really believed they were the best, they wouldn't have to constantly self-adulate and attention seek. They're nothing but hurt individuals, compensating for their insecurities in an aggressive manner. The reason "Your" relationships "does not last enough" is because of your compensatory, over-inflated sense of self-worth. How transparent these people are. How pathetic. How weak. But how dangerous!
Narcissism is dangerous. They are often superficially charming and have the ability to draw in people who may be useful to them. Once these people are of no use they discard them, like an object. They prey on the weak and if the people are not vulnerable they create weaknesses within that person. Somebody asked me once whether I see a lot of people with narcissism. The answer is no, they don't think they have a problem, what I do see though is there victims. They are very dangerous people.
@hailzp Okay...I've been diagnosed with Narcissism and ADHD, I had best girlfriends in the school and at the work/job, then ADHD is more like a gift, to me ! My actual IQ is 141 and I am very proud of it...Yes I am narcissistic but I am not dangerous AT ALL, I am just better, that's all about it. Only problem that I personally have is that My relationships does not last enough :*(
"If she went into a violent rage when the girl shut off the music... stole her credit cards to buy the dress she is modeling in the mirror (or alternately, if it was the girl's brand new dress and she stole it)...constantly devalued the other girl and made her feel inferior and like some sort of appendage or servant to appease her every whim...If the other girl acted like a mirror based on the NPD's mood..."
As stated, people who have NPD are no joke. I've just managed to get rid of one whom completely destroyed everyone in our family. Everything was about her, she was a perfect manipulator, twisting everything around, used our own child against us until she was done. Don't let your child get involved with someone with NPD, and then when it's all over and your child has nothing else to give the NPD person, they will simply move on to the next., but not until they've destroyed a family.
@TheBeastPranks manipulating and destroying lives sounds more like a sociopath, narcissists are more like common douchebags. they are not very dangerous.
@Del249 AsPD, NPD and BPD (Borderline) are nearly always present with each other. That's where the whole "Cluster Fuck" quote came from when we talk about the Cluster group all those PDs come under, since a person usually gets "cluster fucked" by someone with all in the group present. I guess it doesn't matter since nowadays it's considered perfectly acceptable that if someone has NPD, they have all the others in that group. In fact there's a lot of talk about just merging them all into 1 pd.
@TheBeastPranks I always thought its more like this: narcissist - self centered douchebag(not very dangerous), sociopath - cant biologically feel emotions like fear or love(potentially very dangerous), anti-social - can feel emotions, but behaves like a prick nevertheless, more prevalent than sociopathy(usually dangerous but with not as high destructive potential as a sociopath)
@Del249 Yeah but when you think about it, no point in labeling a person with in the same cluster with just 1 pd since you really can't have someone who has NPD and not AsPD or BPD.
A narcissist is a self centered egotistical douchebag, you are right, but those are people that don't fit the role as being too far "fucked" as being diagnosed with NPD. Just your average douchebags. NPD people though, on the other hand, are complete losers and ARE very dangerous since most have Borderline traits 2.

This makes NPD look like a minor funny irritation. Narcs are one of the lowest forms of humanity. Hitler was a Narc allowed to carry to extremes his desires. Narcs do whatever they feel they can get away with. Now compare that to this video.
I'm pretty sure Hitler had more wrong with him than a personality disorder. Narcissistic PD is a fairly common disorder, yet you don't see 1000's of Hitlers running around. They're not the lowest form of humanity, they have a mental illness.
"Narcissistic PD is a fairly common disorder, yet you don't see 1000's of Hitlers running around. They're not the lowest form of humanity, they have a mental illness."
Living with a Narc is like living with a little Hitler. They cause trouble in the workplace and home. They are mentally ill and should be diagnosed accordingly. There is tremendous ignorance of this condition and its the effects and damage to others, including the children of undiagnosed N's, that should be minimised.
Their is no cure for a narcissist. Narcissists will never admit to any wrong doing at all, and will always manifest or take on another personality to escape you and hide behind another mask. They are vicious and very sick. I have a brother who is one and I have nothing to do with him any longer. I've spent years trying over and over and now I'm done. They are known to push everyone away to reinforce the belief they everyone deserves the vicious treatment they get.
Diamond. I think everybody either knows or has met one. Its just that most people are unable to identify them. Their behaviour is just dismissed as being at the bad end of human behaviour. You have to spend a lot of time with one before you reach the point where your at, where you realise that nothing works and no contact is the only answer. They don't care, they will find another sap to parasitise in order to receive narcissistic "supply", ie someone else to control and bleed dry emotionally.
You are so right my friend. I spent years with my brother and when you try to explain to others what this person is like, you end up looking like the one who's bad, and by doing that you fall prey to the narcissist's agenda. The best thing I've heard to do, is to get, and stay out, cause there is no cure.
you're wrong. NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) can be treated with long term therapy, progress is slow but does happen if the person with NPD sticks with it.
No, I am not wrong. NPD is about a person that does not and will not take responsibility for themselves, and as you are treating them, they will purposely fight you and cause you to fail in your attempts to help them. I know first hand about this experience. They count on your sympathy, and you feeling sorry for them, and once you do that, the cycle starts all over as they take on another invented personality.
I know narcissists who have succeeded in therapy, and found different ways of relating to people and learn to live their lives in a way that doesn't push people away and at the same time they are able to be happy.
I have been in a therapeutic community which has quite a few narcissists, and I have seen many of them come along way and completely change. People aren't born with narcism, they develop it due to experiences in their childhood.
Yeah I agree with that, but what I am saying is, if they refuse to help themselves, then you can not help them at all. They will pull you down and use you as a garbage can, and even explaining to someone else as to h9ow you were victimized by a narcissist, it makes you look worse, and that is all part of the NPD's plan. You are right though, it's starts out at a very young age, and when confronted they revert back to that age as an adult. They don't really emotionally grow up.
Almighty God was with me. I want everyone to bear witness, I am the greatest !!!! I'm the greatest thing that ever lived. I don't have a mark on my face, and I upset Sonny Liston, and I just turned twenty-two years old. I must be the greatest!!!! I showed the world. I talk to God everyday. I shook up the world, I'm the king of the world. You must listen to me. I am the greatest!!! I can't be beat!!!!
The difference between a sociopath and a narcissist is that the sociopath recognises others' emotions and doesn't care while the narcissist doesn't recognise others' emotions.
diamond "You know you should not call Narcissism in the short form, it just makes people think you are lazy and can't spell it." I have discussed this a lot with other victims of narcissists and these abbreviations are commonly used! Even down to XNW which is ex narcissistic wife. It saves time and space when you have limited characters.
from the people i've talked to who have been diagnosed with Narcissism I've heard it's an incredibly lonely existence, so maybe a little bit of empathy towards those with Narcissism wouldn't go a miss?
Narcissists count on your empathy, and your sympathy, and as you are feeling sorry for them, they are working on another created personality to continue the cycle all over again. Psychiatrists were asked, "What would you do with a narcissist?" They responded, "We'd refer them to someone else." The worst thing you can do is give a Narcissist sympathy and empathy only allows them to continue the scripted existence.
I was not talking about sympathy towards individuals with narcism, I was meaning people in general with narcism, instead of just writing off all narcissists with disgust and saying they can't be treated.
What needs to happen is the narcissist has to led to a point where they can take responsibility for themselves, but narcissist refuse to take responsibility and would rather everyone else around them suffer. Narcissists use everyone around them as garbage cans and recepticles for they own issues and would watch you emotionally die and do nothing. If a narcissist won't take owner ship over their issues, it's their problem not anyone else's.
Nutmeg "just writing off all narcissists with disgust and saying they can't be treated."
Narcissism varies from N traits to NPD to Malignant Narcissism. Cognitive behavioural therapy has been shown to offer some help to a minority who are willing to cooperate. They have to want to change. They have a life devoid of responsibility for their own actions. It works. Never give a sucker an even break is their moto. Every sucker proves them to be superior, and there is one born every minute!
Nutmeg "maybe a little bit of empathy towards those with Narcissism wouldn't go a miss"
If you show empathy to someone with delusions of grandiosity you are playing into their hands. You are showing them something they are not entitled to. Your irrationality and ability to be manipulated confirms your inferiority to them. This feeds their delusion and is called Narcissistic "supply" and makes you codependent (to give) to them. They show no empathy to others because they are "always right".
See I think you're wrong, I have been "in treatment" with Narcissists who have gone through therapy and changed and when their description of when they were really unwell sounds incredibly lonely
Most severe NPs, malignants etc. show psychopathic traits. It's difficult to explain to people who haven't met them that they really are like an alien breed - a kind of moral autism. They just don't get how human beings can be that way.
Attempting to treat severe NPs is usually a waste of time. They can rarely accept their behaviour is destructive because they lack empathy, and psychotherapy relies on insight.
I've managed to surround myself with NP's and "moral autism" is EXACTLY what arguing with an NP feels like, its infuriating and depressing.
I always suspected psychotherapy would be a waste of time... interesting to hear someone share that view... after all they are only going to try and manipulate the therapist anyway arent they?
Narcissistic behaviour: Lack of Empathy, Interpersonally Exploitative, Need for admiration, Grandiosity of fantasy/behaviour, Sense of self importance.
Yes you touched on some of these points, however a video of someone constantly looking at themselves in the mirror whilst Aqua plays can only go so far...
My father has NPD. I understand the whole thing with the mirrors because alot of people associate narcissm with the story of narcissus in greek mythology but this is not at all evidence of npd in anyway really. Maybe obsession with looks but thats about it. Good film other then that though. I just like to clear up misconceptions on mental illnesses sorry.
My doctors say that I have a personality disorder. I feel like a little child that tries desperately to understand the world without success. I am obsessed with my imaginations of a world population with only one goverment, one brand new language far better structured than the old ones yet to be created, one jurisdiction, one currency etc. without armies, wars, crime and greed. Nobody shares my views, so I am very isolated and lonely :(
I would suggest the following for any mental problems: excellent diet (i.e. gluten-free, casein free, low sugar [even most fruits], low starch, high-protein, moderate fat [all or mostly poly/mono-unsaturated), exercise daily [including weights], yoga/t'ai chi, long country walks, learn to play an instrument and express yourself through music/song, learn to paint/sculpt, keep a journal, make a personal vlog, and [most importantly] find someone/something to love. Email me if you want to chat...
orrrrr... you could write all the ideas you have down in some form or other, perhaps as a blueprint for a world you'd like to see or live in... I'm pretty sure that's how Star Trek started off ;) Sure a good diet and exercise as Andre suggests seems to have alot of success, but don't discredit your own visions!
Well, I have been talking quit open about my vision on a German flirt forum. People have been insulting me a lot, but I am happy to be myself, anyway.
If she went into a violent rage when the girl shut off the music...
If she stole her credit cards to buy the dress she is modeling in the mirror (or alternately, if it was the girl's brand new dress and she stole it)...
If she constantly devalued the other girl and made her feel inferior and like some sort of appendage or servant to appease her every whim...
If the other girl acted like a mirror based on the NPD's mood...
This is supposed to explain NPD??? All I see is a description of vanity. NPD and vanity are two very different things. A good example of a narcissist= South Park's Eric Cartman.
E.C. ... never thought about it before but yea, he is really narcissistic.
Thing is Ns usually understand others very well because they must manipulate people so often. E.C. is not a very good true N because he is oafish and oblivious to how other people work.
E.C. is more selfish and cold, which is different from being N. Without the ability to understand people and manipulate them there is no narcissism
"A narcissist doesn't love himself, and in fact hates himself. What he loves is his phony "perfect" image, which overcompensates for the worm he actually considers himself to be. His life becomes a self-scripted play with himself as hero, and everyone else is expected to applaud."
Reminds me of 90% of the YouTube community.. read my profile if you want me to elaborate
You read too much pop psychology. Real psychology is more enlightening and more interesting and describes narcissism quite differently to your description.
I lived with a manipulator partner with narcissistic personality during three years. It was a terrible nightmare, and it took me a few month of psychotherapist and almost one full year to heal.
Narcissists are disgusting people. They're never wrong (in their own demented little world), they expect, nay, demand your worship (how dare you merely pretend to respect them !!?!). They take credit for your work and you take the blame for their failures (in the workplace). In short I'd say that for someone to become truly evil a Narcissistic Personality Disorder is a damn good place to start. Shoot the SOBs for everyone's sakes.
there's a difference between narcissism and what preteen girls do to get attention. real narcissists DO love themselves and no one else. if you want narcissism look at business CEOs, drug dealers, and probably some politicians.
"A narcissist doesn't love himself, and in fact hates himself. What he loves is his phony "perfect" image, which overcompensates for the worm he actually considers himself to be. His life becomes a self-scripted play with himself as hero, and everyone else is expected to applaud. Heaven help those who don't."
Perfectly described!! In fact you are expected to applaud even when they are being abusive and heaven help you if you don't.
There is this narcissist at my work, a real nasty peace of work. You are right, when you don't applaud when he is making nasty jokes of other people you become the victim.
A narcissist doesn't love himself, and in fact hates himself. What he loves is his phony "perfect" image, which overcompensates for the worm he actually considers himself to be. His life becomes a self-scripted play with himself as hero, and everyone else is expected to applaud. Heaven help those who don't.

This makes NPD look like a minor funny irritation. Narcs are one of the lowest forms of humanity. Hitler was a Narc allowed to carry to extremes his desires. Narcs do whatever they feel they can get away with. Now compare that to this video.
jbgood3 3 years ago
I'm pretty sure Hitler had more wrong with him than a personality disorder. Narcissistic PD is a fairly common disorder, yet you don't see 1000's of Hitlers running around. They're not the lowest form of humanity, they have a mental illness.
RafraiVert 3 years ago
"Narcissistic PD is a fairly common disorder, yet you don't see 1000's of Hitlers running around. They're not the lowest form of humanity, they have a mental illness."
Living with a Narc is like living with a little Hitler. They cause trouble in the workplace and home. They are mentally ill and should be diagnosed accordingly. There is tremendous ignorance of this condition and its the effects and damage to others, including the children of undiagnosed N's, that should be minimised.
jbgood3 3 years ago
Their is no cure for a narcissist. Narcissists will never admit to any wrong doing at all, and will always manifest or take on another personality to escape you and hide behind another mask. They are vicious and very sick. I have a brother who is one and I have nothing to do with him any longer. I've spent years trying over and over and now I'm done. They are known to push everyone away to reinforce the belief they everyone deserves the vicious treatment they get.
diamonddust22 3 years ago
Diamond. I think everybody either knows or has met one. Its just that most people are unable to identify them. Their behaviour is just dismissed as being at the bad end of human behaviour. You have to spend a lot of time with one before you reach the point where your at, where you realise that nothing works and no contact is the only answer. They don't care, they will find another sap to parasitise in order to receive narcissistic "supply", ie someone else to control and bleed dry emotionally.
jbgood3 3 years ago
You are so right my friend. I spent years with my brother and when you try to explain to others what this person is like, you end up looking like the one who's bad, and by doing that you fall prey to the narcissist's agenda. The best thing I've heard to do, is to get, and stay out, cause there is no cure.
diamonddust22 3 years ago
you're wrong. NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) can be treated with long term therapy, progress is slow but does happen if the person with NPD sticks with it.
nutmeg169 3 years ago
No, I am not wrong. NPD is about a person that does not and will not take responsibility for themselves, and as you are treating them, they will purposely fight you and cause you to fail in your attempts to help them. I know first hand about this experience. They count on your sympathy, and you feeling sorry for them, and once you do that, the cycle starts all over as they take on another invented personality.
diamonddust22 3 years ago
I know narcissists who have succeeded in therapy, and found different ways of relating to people and learn to live their lives in a way that doesn't push people away and at the same time they are able to be happy.
I have been in a therapeutic community which has quite a few narcissists, and I have seen many of them come along way and completely change. People aren't born with narcism, they develop it due to experiences in their childhood.
nutmeg169 3 years ago

This is a sociopath or psychopath.
strandwolf 2 years ago
The difference between a sociopath and a narcissist is that the sociopath recognises others' emotions and doesn't care while the narcissist doesn't recognise others' emotions.

Actually narcissism isn't a mental illness. Mental illness involves chemical imbalance.
Narcissim is a personality disorder.

You know you should not call Narcissism in the short form, it just makes people think you are lazy and can't spell it.
diamonddust22 3 years ago
diamond "You know you should not call Narcissism in the short form, it just makes people think you are lazy and can't spell it." I have discussed this a lot with other victims of narcissists and these abbreviations are commonly used! Even down to XNW which is ex narcissistic wife. It saves time and space when you have limited characters.

Thank you for telling me that, it really helps. Any you take care and thanks again.

from the people i've talked to who have been diagnosed with Narcissism I've heard it's an incredibly lonely existence, so maybe a little bit of empathy towards those with Narcissism wouldn't go a miss?
nutmeg169 3 years ago
Narcissists count on your empathy, and your sympathy, and as you are feeling sorry for them, they are working on another created personality to continue the cycle all over again. Psychiatrists were asked, "What would you do with a narcissist?" They responded, "We'd refer them to someone else." The worst thing you can do is give a Narcissist sympathy and empathy only allows them to continue the scripted existence.
diamonddust22 3 years ago
I was not talking about sympathy towards individuals with narcism, I was meaning people in general with narcism, instead of just writing off all narcissists with disgust and saying they can't be treated.
nutmeg169 3 years ago
What needs to happen is the narcissist has to led to a point where they can take responsibility for themselves, but narcissist refuse to take responsibility and would rather everyone else around them suffer. Narcissists use everyone around them as garbage cans and recepticles for they own issues and would watch you emotionally die and do nothing. If a narcissist won't take owner ship over their issues, it's their problem not anyone else's.
diamonddust22 3 years ago 2
Nutmeg "just writing off all narcissists with disgust and saying they can't be treated."
Narcissism varies from N traits to NPD to Malignant Narcissism. Cognitive behavioural therapy has been shown to offer some help to a minority who are willing to cooperate. They have to want to change. They have a life devoid of responsibility for their own actions. It works. Never give a sucker an even break is their moto. Every sucker proves them to be superior, and there is one born every minute!
jbgood3 3 years ago
Nutmeg "maybe a little bit of empathy towards those with Narcissism wouldn't go a miss"
If you show empathy to someone with delusions of grandiosity you are playing into their hands. You are showing them something they are not entitled to. Your irrationality and ability to be manipulated confirms your inferiority to them. This feeds their delusion and is called Narcissistic "supply" and makes you codependent (to give) to them. They show no empathy to others because they are "always right".
jbgood3 3 years ago
See I think you're wrong, I have been "in treatment" with Narcissists who have gone through therapy and changed and when their description of when they were really unwell sounds incredibly lonely

Most severe NPs, malignants etc. show psychopathic traits. It's difficult to explain to people who haven't met them that they really are like an alien breed - a kind of moral autism. They just don't get how human beings can be that way.
Attempting to treat severe NPs is usually a waste of time. They can rarely accept their behaviour is destructive because they lack empathy, and psychotherapy relies on insight.
ChadHorney 2 years ago 2
I've managed to surround myself with NP's and "moral autism" is EXACTLY what arguing with an NP feels like, its infuriating and depressing.
I always suspected psychotherapy would be a waste of time... interesting to hear someone share that view... after all they are only going to try and manipulate the therapist anyway arent they?

Narcissistic behaviour: Lack of Empathy, Interpersonally Exploitative, Need for admiration, Grandiosity of fantasy/behaviour, Sense of self importance.
Yes you touched on some of these points, however a video of someone constantly looking at themselves in the mirror whilst Aqua plays can only go so far...
woopedazz 3 years ago 12

Nobody shares my views, so I am very isolated and lonely :(
Mann1979HH 4 years ago 2
I would suggest the following for any mental problems: excellent diet (i.e. gluten-free, casein free, low sugar [even most fruits], low starch, high-protein, moderate fat [all or mostly poly/mono-unsaturated), exercise daily [including weights], yoga/t'ai chi, long country walks, learn to play an instrument and express yourself through music/song, learn to paint/sculpt, keep a journal, make a personal vlog, and [most importantly] find someone/something to love. Email me if you want to chat...
AndreGDJ 4 years ago
orrrrr... you could write all the ideas you have down in some form or other, perhaps as a blueprint for a world you'd like to see or live in...

This video is the worst description of someone with NPD. If this is what NPD is then the world would be a much better place.
clubad2000 4 years ago 5
If she went into a violent rage when the girl shut off the music...
If she stole her credit cards to buy the dress she is modeling in the mirror (or alternately, if it was the girl's brand new dress and she stole it)...
If she constantly devalued the other girl and made her feel inferior and like some sort of appendage or servant to appease her every whim...
If the other girl acted like a mirror based on the NPD's mood...
... then this video would be about 10% accurate

Hi!
You seem to have become distracted by the commonplace usage of the
word "narcissist". There's a bit of overlap with the technical term, but
there are significant differences as well.
Do a search for the web page "How to Recognize a Narcissist". It's got some
interesting and useful information and opinions. It's not wholly accurate
(they're not writing from the inside), but it's a good place to start.
Hope this helps,
richard
