The time I spent listening to Jimmy O. swapping the COOLEST phrases with Noel Boggs in Spade Cooley's band in the late 40s - and to think he's still at it... wow.
The Art of Two Line Improvisation has been republished by Mel Bay( and edited). He recorded them on an Lp called Etudes...good luck finding it.There are a few books of his. Contrary to his interview in Just Jazz Guitar he had a book out before The Art...called Classical/Country published by Playback(Howard Roberts). It had the first series of contrpuntal etudes.
Thank you for posting these videos of one of the great players, Jimmy Wyble. He played some classic things with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys and then of course with Red Norvo. He is one of the all time greats and wonderful to know that he is still playing!
Mr. Wyble seems to be talking about a playing method. I would be infinately happy to know what book he's speaking about if it in fact is contained in a book. Thanks, Ed
The Art of Two Line Improvisation by Jimmy Wyble / edited and transcribed by Rich Carter / Flat Five Publishing is one; there is a second but i'm not certain of it's title (but it is on the same theme).
I am buying his books! I can't believe that I have been playing for 20+ years and have never heard of thsi guy!
