That happened to my Nintendo DSi XL. First I couldn't use the power button, then it'd turn on by itself. It play half the startup sound. Then I could play a game or use an app for 3 minutes and then it shut off. Try taking out the battery (then drying off the battery and the cover) and then putting it back in. That helped me.

I was like sleeping, woke up cause it was warm, looked for no reason at the tv, where my ds lay on top, and then i suddenly saw the power led light up, the ''needs recharging'' one.

Now i'm leaving it with the empty battery

Nds really sucks, this is like my 4th ds already =,=
