  • I wish I knew Welsh :( I'm from the US but my mom has always stressed the importance of our Welsh heritage. My great grandmother was from Wales, Aberaeron, and she and my great uncle spoke welsh often I guess. My grandfather had no desire to retain it though sadly. I wish I could live in Wales, or at least visit someday.

  • @WelshSaddler

Fi hefyd. Rwyf yn astudio'r cerdd gan Harri Webb. Mae'r can yma wedi fy helpu llawer.

  • The irony... a song about wenglish... and exactly on that videos annotations are words like "ratio" or "yn bosibl" "trethu" for "to rate" and "yn ddichonadwy" for "possible" sounds way nicer to me... although I don't know wether it is a correct usage there. (Dysgwr dw i!)

    Anyway:

    Mae'r cân yn fendigedig iawn!

  • @Valvallaria

Aww,that's just how I speak. =O I'm "100%" Welsh - completley fluent and all that. I live in North Wales - in one of the most Welsh areas in Wales and its just colloquial language. "ddichonadwy" is more like 'feasible'. "yn bosibl" IS a correct Welsh term. It isn't Wenglish at all. As for "trethu" that is used when you talk about fees and stuff. Its not just a song about 'Wenglish' either - its about everything being lost - land, culture, everything as the lyrics tell.

    =)

  • bratiaeth is welsh slang

  • Emosiynol iawn.

  • Thanks, I listened this song at your site some week ago, I favourited it and copied in my facebook site. So beautifull and meaningfull! And nobody could make and sing it better than Elin Fflur. And the songs theme is soo true what is happening with the Hungarians of Transylvania, like it was made for us... It shows that our biggest enemies can be us, because of the modern lifes influences, we have the tendency to forget our language and heritage. We have so common fates...

  • Haunting, beautiful. Thank you.

  • Oh a'r rheswm mae'r lyrics : (Colli tannau'r delyn gywrain;

Colli'r corau'n diasbedain) Ben I Weired yw oherwydd dyma sut ydynt yn ymddangos yn y gerdd gan Harri Webb :D

  • Can Fab. Dwi'n astudio'r cerdd yma fel rhan o Gymraeg Llen Am TGAU. :)

  • can anhygoel!! <3 caru pob gair!! diolch am rhoi'r lyrics yna hefyd!! :D vidio ffantastig [: x

  • Canu hwn yw poignant iawn. Diolch am bostio'r lyrics.

  • English isn't a shallow bastard language.

  • I didn't translate the lyrics - I copied them from another site [I'm lazy ;) ] I will change them if you like, I apologise if you were offended.

  • Thanks for the clarification, DD :) dw i'n Saesnes, ond dw i'n meddwl Cymraeg yn hyfryd iawn (dw i'n dysgwr). Diolch eto :)

  • Oh and also - "bratiaith" is not "bastard" in English. That's not actually the correct translation - the poem isn't talking about English as the language that replaces Welsh - its sort of 'Wenglish'. Its like people who speak very poor Welsh - with a lot of English words. Its quite a problem in some parts of Wales =( I hope that makes sense...

  • Hey DD, quick look in "Geiriadur Mawr" says "brat" = rag or apron. So maybe bratiaith means a ragged language or the language has become ragged?

    Kind regards...

  • @distant dreamer. There are a couple of mistakes in your lyrics. Second verse: lines 2 and 3 are round the wrong way. Last verse: Elin sings "cychwyn" and not "dechrau". Means the same thing of course...

    Ydy'r Ddraig yn deffro?

  • The song itself is in fact a poem written by Harri Webb and I being a little lazy copied and pasted [!] the lyrics from a website but I'll just go and correct the lyrics now, thanks for informing me! xD

PS: Wyt ti'n gallu siarad Cymraeg yn rhigl?

  • Dim bwys! Fe ges i fy ngeni yn y Lloegr ond roedd fy hentaid Cymro wir. Nes i ddysgu Cymraeg fel yr ail iaith yn yr ysgol ac yn nawr dw i'n ceisio dysgu mwy. Dw i'n eisau siarad Cymraeg yn rhugl achos Mae'r iaith yn hawdd a dw i'h hoffi'r Hen 'Wlad. Esgusodwch fi os oes cymgymeriad... :(

  • Wow - mae dy Gymraeg di yn dda iawn felly os cefaist dy eni yn Lloegr! =) Da iawn - paid poeni am gamgymeriadau ! =D =D

  • Diolch yn fawr am dy geiriau caredig, dw i'n ddiolchgar iawn Breuthwydiwr Bell!

  • Heddiw yn yr ysgol i'ni 'di ddechrau astudio hon fel rhan o'in TGAU a fydd yn cario 'mlaen mewn i lefel A siwr o fod . Can arbennig o dda. O'n i ddim yn gwybod galle cerddoriaeth cymraeg fod mor dda . 5/5

  • I wish I understood this as well as I shopuld . My Welsh soul responds strongly to this beautiful song and to this girls's voice. Someone please provide a complete translation,

    Diolch

    Aled Owen

  • Thank you very much for your comment; I really apprecatice it that you took the time to comment. I will work on getting a translation for you. =) Cool; do you come from a Welsh background?

  • I've sent you a message, and the english translation is now in the 'more info' section.

nes i wrando i hwn loads cyn i'r arholiad i'w ddysgu.

os rydech yn wneud y gerdd yma i'ch TGAU, gwrandewch ar hwn!

  • Hoffen ni os bydden ni'n wneud y gerdd yma, achos mae'r gerddi rydyn ni yn wneud yn mor galed i cofio. -_-

  • mae'r geiriau yma'n llawn feddwl. Rwy'n caru'r can yma.x

These lyrics are full of meaning. I love this song. x

  • Emosiynol!

  • Hon a 'Cysgodion' yn ffantastig! Mae llais Elin mor dda - dwi'n cytuno. Cerdd ydi hon gan Harry Webb. Roedd rhaid i ni stydio fo i TGAu. :)

  • Wow, rwy'n caru'r can yma! ^_^

  • Me too. But what does it mean. I thank the gods that Hollywood did not devastate the Welsh culture as it did the Irish.

Isn't this beautful in its simplicity?
