  • @E800flyer We have an Oliver 4 cylinder that starts gas and runs diesel/kerosene. No shit.

  • The U.S. Goast Guard used 6V53 Detroits in their self righting, self bailing 44 foot Motor Surf Boats. Twin 6V53's.

  • You always want to prelube the turbo, and then hold the rotor from turning when you first start it to allow oil to reach the turbocharger. I use my fingers or a socket to hold it still for a few minutes.

  • @MrDieselBob im sorry i cant help my annoying fucking self sometimes

  • So why does this have such a light flywheel?

  • @douro20 Who says it does?

  • @madtownmadman I guess he assumes it has a light flywheel because of how quick it revs up and goes back to idle. I would´ve thought the same.

  • This revs awesome.

  • 1 person hit the wrong button

  • sounds like a speed bike

  • God when not under load that thing will get into the high rpms QUICK

  • good sounding engine. i love all the negative comments it makes youtube entertaining.

  • Sounds great and awesome vid quality. Get goin on the transplant. I wanna see a 6v in a pickup!

  • There are a few vids like that on here. One is in a '67 GMC and the other is in an F-250 with a snow plow. They are really cool. I'm looking to get one for my '67 Chevy.

  • your very lucky the valve didnt eject itself into the engine, great rebuild she runs!

  • what kind of tank did this come out of?

  • most likely an M113A3 they had turboed 6v53'

  • nice. she runs much better now. great throttle response. given that this motor was out of a tank does that mean it has 80mm injectors like the marine one do??

  • what is a 'smoke generator'

  • this engine is equipped with a device that sprays fuel past a spark plug into the air box. It doesn't burn but instead turns to white smoke, lots of it. It gets sucked into the cylinders and out the exhaust where it makes a very effective smoke screen. This is the first one we've ever seen....

  • so basically to look cool..? very interesting, where do u plan on using this engine, doesnt it have a heat exchanger being primarally a marine engine?

  • wait... basically everything i asked, just got answered... damn... thats ok though, im only 16

  • REALLY? Do you want to bet on it? I own the freakin thing so I should know what it has or doesn't have....

  • well - good try. If you read the thread starting above, you would have noticed that I was replying to dionysiosA76 asking what a smoke generator was. If you read my reply you should have realized that I was talking about the smoke generator, not the internal engine. Diesels either use glow plugs, intake heaters, ether start, or block heaters. Being that this is a detroit diesel, it is not equipped for glow plugs or an intake heater. Because it has no provision for a common pre-heat, many

  • cold-weather based Detroits employ an ether-start setup. Others use a block heater in conjunction to warm the coolant temp to help get cylinder temps up to level where it can light the fuel off. From my experience most Navistars use glow plugs and most cummins and cats use intake pre-heaters. NOW - there are some old diesels that are "hybrid" in that they have spark plugs and use gasoline to get started and then switch over to run on diesel. Very uncommon though. DONT CALL PEOPLE DUMB ASS!

  • Yeah I've heard of those

  • @erickoster

International Harvester used the hybrid gas/diesel setup, there was a valve that closed to raise compression on switching to diesel.

  • @erickoster i've seen old CAT engines that used a pony engine (a small gas engine) to turn over the diesel to start it but i've never seen a diesel with a spark plug and diesel injector before. not saying it's impossible but the two fuels don't burn the same way and the engine wouldn't run well on either one of them.

  • @erickoster lol there are no spark plugs. i highly doubt you own a 6v53t from your previous bullshit rant about smoke screens. you sound like a 12 year old who thinks hes been working on diesels for 40 years. get a life, stop trolling on these videos we diesel enthusiasts hold dear. btw Detroits aren't hybrid diesels so just stfu.

  • @Bamchucknorris This is what you are doing: :V This is what we want you to do: :|

  • @erickoster no spark plugs. it uses glow plugs. and the device that sprays fuel is called a fuel injector. and you need to do some research about diesels before you open you mouth. I love the bullshit you wrote about smoke screens. Very creative.

  • @Bamchucknorris Are you serious?

  • This is a mechanical Detroit DIesel, it does not have glow plugs.

I own an identical 6V53T, which I pulled from a M551 Sheridan Tank.

The "smoke generator" Eric is referring to is actually called the arctic start system.

It consists of a fuel pump, induction coil, and a diesel sparkplug made by AC.

The inductor (made by EXCITER IGNITION) takes in 12-30VDC and creates a high voltage arc, which ignites diesel fuel inside of the air box, warming up the engine before initial start.

  • @erickoster You are a dumb ass

  • Sounds like a stock car when you rev it up. :D

  • nice engine man cant wait too see it under the hood of some truck or somthin by the way what are u using too video tape cause the camera ur using is very clear and soo is the sound

  • thanks. can't wait either. Shooting to have the engine in the truck sometime this winter...

My camera is a Sony HDR-SR11. 1080i HD 60gb cam. Just got it a few months ago and it is AWESOME! I even cut back the quality on the clips so the file size wouldn't be so large.

  • nice man ill be lookin forward too see some more videos from u and seein ur engine under the hood of truck, its ashame i dont have the money for a camera like that i wanted to get a camaera before spet13th im goin too the us desel nationals at english town NJ and i could deff use one there cause the camera i use the battery will go in like an hour, but anyways thanks for the info take care and good luck too ya and ur project
