Good review. I certainly agree about weekends and especially holidays. I will add that while it is overused, Rampart is an amazingly scenic area. I seem to get some of my best photos there.
My usual MO is to leave early, be on the trail by 7:45 or so and over and out by noon. The crowds tend to pick up after 10.
The trail behind Sprucewood is fun and very technical in places. Too bad it is a road to nowhere though. See you on the trail sometime!
@thejunkman So I've heard, I live in Monument and go up there all the time...I typically stay to the lower part of Rampart or go over to 717 area. I ride a converted XR650R that is now a Dual Sport with a 6.3 gallon tank....so single tracks are not something I typically do...although I have done Captain Jacks on it. I review trails myself. cowrw.com
I grew up here and LEARNED how to ride here. havent been up there in awhile my dad and I kinda lost interest who knows, but anyways overall fun place but the mapping system is kinda dumb and yes it is def. not a secret especially if you to the powerline talk about rut city!!
anyone else think the maps are completely garbage? they re-did it this week. but we were riding up north getting to indian creek and come across a 700 trail that wasnt even marked?
I agree the maps are not real great, but they only serve as a basic guide. I think the map was made about 10 years ago. Since then some new trails have cropped up (either illegally or legally) and the cost to print updated maps expensive. The new trails you rode are the ones that have just recently been opened since about May. I think new maps are on their way after phase 2 of new single track that will open.
They should put it for download on their website and charge a few dollars or something. Have you been to noddle (677) lately? It is terrible! Their is a huge rock right in the middle of the trail.
Not lately, well I heard that the $3.00 they charge for the maps helps pay for the printing of the map and a downloadable version might proliferate unauthorized duplication I think is their worry.
can you shoot guns = can you light off boom sticks, and ya i hear ya man......younger days, the shovel thing means bring it to dig out lips for jumps to give you kick............yuuuuup im sure youll see my work this year :) keep posted
yeah.....for sure....poaching is nessasary to a small degree.....the ones im thinking of are hard to see unless you look for huge crazy shit.....but they are right off the jackson creek road...i promis...just grow a pair and look for sloaped hill side landing on anything....use a shovel to achive the rest brotha.....mabe ill catch up with you out ther.....can you still light off boom sticks out ther?
I see, well I don't completely understand your whole comment especially the last line. But cool anyways. I never thought of looking for big hits but that would be for my younger days :P
hmmmm.....im pritty sure i can show you a coupla 60' ta 80' hits out near jackson creek.....i havent been to rampart in 5 years but im sure ther still ther in one form or another......
Pritty, I am not sure where you could find any natural hits, but I am not into that sort of thing. Its probably possible somewhere although you might be poaching to do it.
Good review but you forgot to mention the millions of woopty doos.

Too bad the trash and the idiots that do not know how to ride are out there. I would say go during the week, weekends there are better places to go.

@modette99 Yup, but on the bright side they have opened some new trails and coming soon will be some dedicated single track.
