abraham had two sons. "i suck" and "i smile". the land of "i suck" is located on the left side of the red sea, and the land of "i smile" is located on the right side of the red sea. jews should go back to egypt if they really are "root sick".
he never once mentions the u.s. unwavering and unending support for israel and the many u.n. resolutions that only the u.s. has vetoed time and time again
@sunnchilde Respectfully, I think Josh is spot on here. To my mind an "Islamist" is actually NOT someone who follows Islam correctly - they think they do but apostatize their faith by their murderous intentions.
The West Wing was the first show post 9/11 to react to it, this episode I imagine was hastily thrown together. So the plot holes are huge, it doesnt really matter. As this episode does not fit into the West wing canon. I love the show... welll written and if you had the right sense of humour absolutely fricking hillarious.
In this (otherwise interesting) debate Josh ignores some key issues, although he does have some partially valid arguments. It is valid to say that the majority of the terrorists the (IO)USA are fighting are "Islamic Extremists", but how did these groups come into existence?
Yes, there are groups who practice a very (ultra-)conservative Islam, but so do some christians, jews, (...) within their religions and "they might not be your cup of tea", but how did some of them became violent extremists?
As is confirmed by many academics, middle east specialists, the CIA and one presidential candidate in particular the reason why some islamic (ultra-)conservatives "went around the bend" and became islamic extremists is almost certainly because of the invasive US presence and policy in the middle east.
Sure, their "way of live" may offend us and even conflict with our understanding of human rights, but how would you feel if some presumptuous nation would force(!) its beliefs on you?
That does not mean we should ignore them or the possibility that those conservatives are not happy with our way of live, our freedoms and the example we (should) set for the world, but I highly doubt that you would attack a friendly and polite neighbor just because his believes differ from yours.
With the words of River Tam: "People don't like to be meddled with."
Such a well made episode. So tragically undermined by not mentioning that US support for Israel is the main reason the ME and the 'bad guys' hate the US.
Along with the palestine/israel episodes where barlett solves the conflict..this is the biggest clue you'll get as to the nature of the zionist propagandist Aaron Sorkin. just another hollywood show made by Jews to further the cause of Zionist Apartheid Israel.
This episode was amazing, and it was needed so soon after 9/11. Such an attack meant that we all wanted blood, rightfully so but it was important to educate those who just wanted to hit out that it was a particular group that deserved our rage, not everyone.
I notice he never uses the word "Israel" as one of the reasons the attack. Agree with it or not, American support for Israel is one of the key issues.
@thistorontoguy YOU'LL Notice this in nearly all Hollywood films and TV shows, even the serious ones that attempt to give a realistic portrayal of 'Islamic terror' in a post 911 world, however, you'll also find this absence in The Siege (1995) and the Delta Force films from the 80s, and similarly, shows like Sleeper Cell, 24 and films like The Kingdom and Unthinkable all have a notable absence any mention of US support for Israel as the reason for anti-US hatred.
if you watch the republican debates this year you'll see just how far beyond that mainstream US politics hs now bcome, with AIPAC having the ability to make or break politicians they effectively have a 'checkbox' on nearly everything. The applause when Santorum said the US was attacked on 911 because of its liberty and women in the workplace makes one feel sick,as does the applause Bachmann gt for bashing Obama for letting "daylight come between the US and Israel",Theres 1 reason for this.AIPAC.
@MustLovePoop You really think that? Google "kkk and religion" and follow the wikipedia link to Christian terrorism. Scroll down to the section on the U.S. and you will see the following about the Klan. "They were explicitly Christian terrorist in ideology, basing their beliefs on a "religious foundation" in Christianity" and "The goals of the KKK included, from an early time on, an intent to reestablish Protestant Christian values in America by any means possible". The more you know...
@Dundertaker Well yeah, but you have to take into account the context of this episode. It was written as a response to how america (and the rest of the world) was feeling after 9/11 and addressed some pressing issues in society's consciousness. It aired on October 3rd, so to get written, shot, and through post in about three weeks is not a lot of time to iron out clunky lines of dialogue. The students are really just there for exposition purposes.
There is some speculation that he was just a theist, maybe agnostic, at least according to his manifesto. He liked the christian culture, not may not have had been christian.
@nadian24 Thanks, Nadian. I really like the analogy that Josh makes to spell out exactly what you just said. I'm a Latter-day Saint, but all the Muslims I have ever known are just AWESOME people, and those awesome people are no doubt in the majority while that minority shouldn't even be able to claim any ties to Islam, in my opinion - hence what you said about "supposedly in the main of."
ummm ...War is ordained by Allah, and all Muslims must be willing to fight, whether they like it or not. koran 2:216 ...FAIL! it is the mandate of the religion end of story! if they can quote the book its part of it..please dont make pull out the other 600 verses!!!!!
@timbionline999 I might be late but including these arguments in your presentation against terrorism is inaccurate and fundamentally wrong since these reasons do not represent the reason why terrorism exists.
