  • Is this another version of 'the bold grenadier'???

  • If the Pogues had written a follow up to this song, the UN-gentlemanly soldier would have died a horrific death. And the gal woulda turned intoa badass drinking girl who went on to have a bar named after her.

  • was socky in the pogues!?

  • @romperstompist Sorry to tell you but it's an English song :-). Which is why McGowen is using a gruff Cockney accent, I suppose.

  • @tonymcivor

lend me ten pounds.... the songs name is "the boys from the county hell"

  • I love hearing him do the voices!! XD

  • Billys Bones, sick Bed of Cuchulainn, Pair of Brown Eyes and The Old Main Drag......Rum and Lash is their best album. Fuck coldplay, oasis etc. Mc Gowan is in a league of his own

  • have to agree with you there.

got to love oasis too though, another great IRISH band.

  • @paulgallagher13 you do realise that Oasis isnt Irish? Last i checked most the members were from Manchester.

  • @paulgallagher13 what?

  • Wait, are these guys actually Irish?

  • One of them is Irish born

  • You thick cunt. Shane's parents are from Tipperary. While visiting relatives in England over christmas Shane was born. Three months later the family returned to Tipp where Shane lived until at age six the family again moved to England, this time to London. He is as Irish as green grass as anybody in Tipperary will tell you. Phil Chevron and Terry Woods are both Dublin born. Cait O'riordain had at least one Irish parent and I believe Spider Stacey had Irish ancestry as well. So, basically, sin e.

  • @SuperDsweeney

No offence but what does it matter? Its a well known fact the Pogues were an English-Irish band, why argue over the homeland of the members, the music is good why should it matter?

  • @Pizza23333 It may not matter to you but it does to Shane. He is Irish, from Irish parents born into an Irish family but born in Kent over Christmas when they were visiting relatives. I take it you woulnd't deny black people born in the US their African roots and heritage ?

  • @SuperDsweeney

i think youre making a big things and out something that doesnt matter, if you speak to shane and he has made it clear he considers himself Irish, which he probably does, then that is that. Its pointless to argue on the internet. The Pogues are an Angalo-Irsh band, everyone knows it so it does not matter.

  • @1catholicchick Only Phil Chevron from this line-up was born in Ireland. MacGowan, though born in Tunbridge Wells on a family visit there, was brought up in Tipperary till the age of six, before moving to London. Some of the others, like Andrew Ranken, and Cait O'Riordan have Irish roots. The band are really a mix of London punk and Irish folk. Despite what some other loonies on here may say, it's not the blood that counts, listen to the attitude. Irish irreverence and London's anger, YES!

  • @potstillbill Great post!

  • @connaught2008 Too true.

  • well coooooooooooool

  • It's funny when he does the voices.

  • Great song sweetheart. What do you think of the one they did where they talk about thousands sailing from a land of "guilt and weeping effigies"?

  • viva la pogues

  • @SadolfShitler i think the song you're thinking of is Thousands are Sailing :) its my favourite song by them i think :)

  • BEST ONE!

  • COOL ONE !
