  • What sound card were you using?

  • @SiPlusTV If you are talking about for this video? If so it was either a Sound Blaster Live or it was one of those onboard Realtek sound cards. Yeah, actually I think it was the machine with the Realtek one. Realtek 97 or something.

  • @Artigkar40000000 Do you have any success of launching Quake on Realtek HD?

  • @SiPlusTV Haven't tried the DOS version since I recorded the video. But I have tried with EZQuake source port since then and have had no problems launching it on my Realtek setup. Unless you are talking specifically Quake for MS Dos? I will say that I have had some odd issues with GLQuake though, but I think that might be due to the graphics card drivers.

  • @Artigkar40000000 Yes, MS-DOS, I don't know how to set BLASTER variable.

  • @SiPlusTV Just to clarify things here: are you trying to run quake through the DOSBox emulator on a modern machine or running quake in MS DOS natively on a win95/98 machine? Because with the last one there, I am afraid I can't help you much with. If you are trying to run with the DOSBox emulator then it shows the correct variables at the startup screen (at least with the latest version) and you can show it again by typing in the "set blaster" (without the quotes) in the command line.

  • @SiPlusTV I would suggest that you maybe google dosbox and get on the official site for the DOSBox emulator if you are still stuck on this issue after my last reply. You could maybe get some help from the dudes on their forums.

  • Ii emember this! it was the best!!!

  • I loved this game when I was a kid! I still have the game, but my dad bought it for me, and its the Shareware fold-out sleeve. We used to get the full version somehow, by using QuakeCrack or something. I wish I remembered how to unlock the full version :(

  • I LOVE THIS GAME!! AHHH

  • I looked up QuakeGL and its a zipped file. Can I unzip it with XP and email the files to my PC running win 98 then put them back into Quake on my other PC? Also thanks for answering my first question.

  • you don't have winzip on your win 98 vid?

anyway yeah I think you can, but how large is it unzipped?

  • vid :D... *rig

  • Does WinQuake make this game look better? Im planning on trying this on an older PC running windows 98, pentium 166, 4MB video card and 98 Megs of ram. I just dont know if it will run it or if it will run with my laptop with XP?

  • dunno, never used WinQuake. Always used GLquake. Its a free downloadable patch and that will be guaranteed to work with XP.

This vid is recorded in dosbox btw and GLquake looks much better, its quake in openGL.

Beware that GLquake requires a shortcut to with some parameters to run in anything higher than 640x480

  • oh and I believe it will work fine for that PC since the official reqs say this:

    IBM PC and Compatibles

Pentium processor HIGHLY recommended, 486DX4/100 Minimally required

    VGA Compatible Display or better

8MB RAM minimum, 16MB recommended (16 MB required for running under Win95)

    CD-ROM drive Required

MS-DOS 5.0 or better or Windows 95 (does NOT run under Windows NT)

Hard Drive (30MB for Shareware, 80 MB for Registered)

  • It should also be noted that there is better graphical ports than GLquake, I don't know what the names of these ports but you should ask someone on a gaming forum of some kind... maybe planetquake forums... dunno its been a while since I have been visiting any quake related sites

  • @Artigkar40000000 i will have no problem running it in 9001 fps then.
