  • Actually the biggest saxophone is the contabass, next is the bass saxophone, then the baritone,

then next is tenor, next is alto, after is the soprano, then sopranino and the last is the soprillo

  • @308Karl the main saxes are alto tenor and bari and bari is the biggest among the 3 the other saxophones are scarcely used in any kind of music

  • @THEANnetWork I know that soprano saxophone is also one of the main today because it's also used to perform in concerts also in Quartet.

  • the baritone is prety snazy

  • But how to i play it?

  • is this guy stuiped??? the alto and the tenor are not in the same key. The bari and the alto are same key. lol tenor plays diffrent notes then bari and alto. a baritone saxophone player could play a alto saxes notes. and an alto could play a baris part. but tenors cant read bari nor alto parts.

  • @fusionfallguide086 Umm he didnt say alto and tenor where in the same key he tenor and soprano were in the same key

  • @Ozscii he meant lowest common instrument

  • today i was in band class and got to feel an alto saxophone its heavy for its size

  • Baritone is the most common? Really?

  • @watermelonygoodness What he meant was that of the commonest saxes, it was the biggest; the bass, contrabass, and sub-contrabass aren't common. You are correct that the alto is the most common of all the saxes.

  • All of u shut the fudge up

  • He said in the common family.

Soprillo, Sopranino, Bass, and Contrabass aren't common.

    Stop being so overly technical.

  • thats actually an armature quality bari sax, notice on the bell its only got one key, the higher ranking models of the bari have 3 to 4 on it to get your lowest A out

  • The Baritone isnt the most commen its the Alto

  • @MrTheNickster grammar fail. common.

  • LOL This guy dosent know what he's talking about i followed him and followed what he said and i was horrible then i followed my band teacher and i started to play really good lol it's amazing how many people think he is knowing what he is talking about lol amazing

  • im 12 and play this

  • @XxMW2xProxX Goody for you, that's about how old I was when I started, maybe a bit older

  • Actually sopranino is the highest, Not soprano.

    Expertvillage?

    More like idiotsvillage.

  • @virdafjell he does say "common sax" frequently. Still, seems about a smart as any one who's played any instrument for a week and learnt some big words.

  • @59redhead If you agreen with anything with expert village you must have problems

All of their material is incorrect.

  • @virdafjell I'm not denying he's wrong. But this seems to be designed for idiots and is very dumbed down. Someone after a beginers video isn't going to want to hear about the concert or sopranino. only 4 are ever seen even if there are 8.

  • @virdafjell Soprillo is the highest

  • Ive only known that as of last week

  • Do any of you know where i can get a cheap(ish) bari

i play tenor which is great but the bari seems more exotic and just overall more fun to play!

  • Do any of you know where i can get a cheap(ish) bari

i play tenor which is great but the bari seems more exotic and just overall more fun to play!

  • is the C Melody sax still in use?

  • what about contrabass

  • I play Alto and Bari. The Bari's name is Helga

  • @brothersace I named my Bari, barry.

  • There is also bas and curved sopranoes. And there is also a c saxophone that is between alto and tenor in sound. And there is also a super soprano with even higher tunes than tha sopranos. I once thought I would bye one but they cost lots money.

  • Great intro!

  • @lamenamereally actually tubax is lowest

  • 0:11 - The most "biggest, most common" saxophone??

Perhaps he means the most common big saxophone? The baritone saxophone is not the most commonly found. I think that would be either the tenor or alto.

  • hey, im in eight grade and i just started playing bari sax. its really fun but im having trouble with the holding. i can barely reach the low c key with my right pinky. and i tried raising my sax but than its too high for me to reach the mouth piece. any sugestions?

  • @SpEsHaLLL Actually there are two types of Tubaxes. One is pitched in Eb and has the range of the Contrabass Sax. The other is pitched in Bb and has the range of the never built Subcontrabass Sax.

  • There's also Tubax which is basically the sub-contra bass.

  • @OMGMoFoMe No, the tubax is commonly confused as being lower than the contrabass. It's actually about the same as the contrabass sax, but it's a lot smaller, and has a thinner bore than the contra. They're a bit easier to play than the contrabass sax, but not as fat sounding. They have a more efficient design, and that's why it takes less air. The tubax ain't sub-contrabass.

  • i think he meant lowest of the common saxophones, soprano, alto, tenor, and the baritone

  • ive been playing clarinet for four years, and i wasnt going to do marching band until the director told me the bass clarinet player quit and he needed someone to do it so I started playing bass and my good friend plays bari. but hes graduating next year, so im marching the bari sax next year :)

  • the alto is the 3rd highest not 2nd because there is soprillo then soprano then alto.

  • @gtfomybrbk its the 4th highest actualy, you forgot the sopranino which is between the soprillo and soprano

  • PLAY MORE AND SPEAK LESS!!! SURE THAT YOU DON'T KNOW HOW PLAY IT!!! ¬¬

  • baritone is definitely not the most common but is definitely the best

  • i have been playing the clarinet 4 7 years and i just got the barry sax 2day!

  • he just meant that it's most commonly the lowest. sure theres bass and contrabass, but they're rare

  • WRONG there is contra bass and sopranino

  • anyone notice this is the only expertvillage with on time scripts!

  • The first saxophone made was the Bass Saxophone in C for Orchestra. The maker showed up with it in pieces. It was said to be able to whisper or roar like a lion. Berlioz was the first composer to write for the Saxophone and he was a close friend of Adolphe Sax. "Translated Source Readings in the life and Work of Adolphe Sax" is a great dissertation by Kenneth N Deans. Good Reading!

  • hey so I'm starting to play bari sax this summer and I don't know what size reeds to get. I've played alto for 5 years and I play on a size 4 reed, what do you guys suggest?

  • I play alto and Bari,I just love saxophones so I'll try out the tenor soon:)

  • God, people can't hear. He said it's the largest of the common saxophones, not all of them.

  • people who work for expertvillage are noobs they only have superficial knowledge and skills towards the subject

  • im playing baritone... i cant fucking play the middle part of star spangled banner..."and the rockets red glare.." that part is fucking high i cant fucking play it

  • bari kicks ass

  • Isn't there a bass?

  • I am playing bari :)

  • hm....at the beggining you said most common, i believe its less common then alto

  • contrabass is the lowest

  • tubax (subcontrabass) is the lowest.

  • @audir1thenewone well in the common saxophone family (bari tenor alto soprano) its the lowest but otherwise yupp

  • no, Tubax is the lowest. Though, Bari is the lowest out of the common family made out of Adolphe Sax.

  • @littleshortkid Tubax isn't technically a saxophone. Contrabass is, however, and has the same range.

  • @lamenamereally What he meant is that bari is the lowest of the MOST COMMON

    saxophones

  • @lamenamereally they just made a subcontrabass saxophone. this thing is really low pitched and so huge it takes 3 people to play one for the mouthpiece, one for the high notes, one for the low notes. the first two have to use a ladder to get to their positions.

  • @lamenamereally actually i think the tubax is

  • @lamenamereally the soprano sax?, know they have to invented one call the Gambino or the genovese saxophone..

  • @lamenamereally Well, there is the tubax subcontrabass...

  • @lamenamereally no it isn't there is a subcontrabass and a double contrabass

  • @lamenamereally He said, quote, "It's the lowest of the four saxophones in the common family." Notice he used the word, "Common." Lol I'm not really saying your wrong, contrabass is the lowest, but I'm just fixing the small mistake you made :)

  • @lamenamereally subcontrabass

  • @lamenamereally Actually subcontrabass is the lowest.

  • @lamenamereally acctually the biggest id the tubax saxophone but they are very rare

  • @lamenamereally And soprillo is the highest. Never trust expert village.

  • @lamenamereally Wrong. Subcontrabass is the lowest.

  • @lamenamereally What about sub-contrabass and low tubax?

  • @lamenamereally no, contracontrabass is the lowest, it no longer exists, but it did at one time

  • @lamenamereally semi contabass

  • @lamenamereally its acctuley the sasusaphone

  • yes it is true that he missed a few saxophones but he said the four "most common" saxophones. therefor he is correct

  • theirs also a curved saprano

  • I play an Alto Saxaphone but I might switch to Tenor.

  • @cannonbolt55 bari is better

  • nice shirt.

  • Actually, you are wrong.

Rank from Highest to Lowest: Sopranino Sax, Soprano Sax, Alto Sax, Tennor Sax, Baritone Sax, Base Sax, Contrabase Sax, and Subcontrabase Saxophone.

For being an expert on Saxophones, you listed less than half of them.

  • Well, he only named the four common saxes. These are the ones that everyday people would know. Not many people can own the Sopranino or a Bass.

  • you spelled tenor, bass, contrabass, and subcontrabass wrong

  • actually its "soprillo", then sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, bari, bass, contrabass, and subcontrabass. plus he said that he was talking about the common saxophone family which is soprano alto tenor baritone

  • *sigh* my jazz teacher made me switch from the alto to this....im like her slave to changeing instruments ( i went from clarinet, bass clarinet, tenor sax, alto and finally to barry)

    bleehhh...

  • You should take that as a major compliment. You switched from C to G that's amazing. You don't get put in Jazz Band period if you aren't an exceptional player.

  • yeah i guess, but i take two buses to get home...and riding the metro with a barry is...challenging

  • exact same thing happened to me. :(

  • LOL all i wanted was to learn how to play the Tenor and my teacher suggested me playing the trumbone

  • That shouldn't really matter.

In Jazz the Bari has some pretty awesome parts. And if you arn't playing awesome charts suggest that you play The Theme From Asphalt Jungle by Duke Ellington. You will never say blehh again to the Bari. And try walking miles home with a bari. It is my life.

  • im playing the bari this year i think im the only on in 7th grade who wants it lokes so cool i hope im the only one who wants it that whould be gangsta

  • i bought my new bari sax a Selmer sieries 3 a S-90 Mouth piece.. can u tell me if its good?

  • C-star mouth pieces are my personal favorite.

  • 2 people want the one baritone saxophone in music class.how should we decide who gets it (ps we only have one reed)

  • i dont have the intention span to wait through the ad so by now i have left

  • does anyone here know how where to purchanse a bari sax near toronto? tnx

  • god you guys are all idiots. if you can ply one saxaphone you can ply them all. dipshits. "oooo i can play th bari and tenor" big woop. give me any sax and i will be able to play it. bragging rights dont come with that, oh and by the way, bari is not the most common.

  • i agree i play alto saxophone and a brai, but most people think, they are different notes because one is bigger then the other

  • There's one thing that you're missing: Sounding good.

  • wha about the sampranini

  • their is no such thing as a sampranini. U might be thinking of the sopranino or the soprillo saxophone. sopranino is an octave above the alto and the sopranino is an octave above the soprano.

  • i think you meant to say the *soprillo* sax is an octave above the soprano =P

  • yeah, i messed up. lol

  • You forgot the Contrabass saxophone

  • I play, piano, clarinet, bass clarinet, a little guitar and I'm learning Bari sax!

  • Comment removed

  • I play, piano, keyboard, timbales, xylophone, other percussion, ukulele and i want to learn bari but my parents don't want it because i'm bussy enough... (i'm 13)

  • yeah i play keyboard, guitar, taiko, alto tenor and i wanna play baritone sax. but i gotta buy it and these saxes (none of these for that matter) are very cheap.

  • i have a bari, im playin for my schools band this year i played clarinet last year im gonna get guitar lessons and piano lessons

  • they are cheap!!! how much are they

  • i play alto and bari the bari is the best

  • i play alto , tenor and bari :D

and yeh the most common is

    1) alto

    2) tenor/bari

    3) soprano

not a big fan of soprano but i would like to play it but im too used to big mouthpieces lol !

  • Me play alto and barrritone bitches

  • Comment removed

  • ...the baritone is not the most common of the whole family...the alto is!

  • I play Alto and Bari=] Im pretty awesome!!

  • I have been playing alto for about a year but i dont know to play tenor or baritone saxophone.

  • I play the baritone.:)

But I need to play O Canada on it for an event, but I need the music.

Anybody know any sites, or extreamly common music books where you can find it?

    Please help!

    And thanks:)

  • ok like the alto i think what they say is the most common sax and u were just saying all the saxs and forgot the alto?!?!? thats a good one too u know!

  • You take a long time to make a point. You go out of focus. You are inconsistent for example if Bb soprano plays D when playing with a piano then what about an Eb alto sax ?. What is the pitch of a baritone?

  • and also, the soprano isn't the highest...

  • The highest in the common family

  • Bari isn't the most common, and it also isn't the biggist...

  • Yes but after learning it, how do you maintain it. Cleaning mine is a betch. xD;

I learned Bari in two weeks on my own. From Bass Clarinet. : D Its alot funner, and I love how it's low and crisp to play. <3

I hate touching the alto and the tenor is a no go.

Suggest learning it to anyone. :D Even if it often gets sucky parts...

  • I love my Bari to and I really do often get sucky parts but sometimes I get wonderful ones. I Hate tenor to lol. =]

  • I play them all

  • I play the baritone. =)

  • wtflip..

    the contrabass is

    the biggest of the

    sax fam, whats

    wrong with you fool!

  • he said in the common family contra isn't very common

  • no the subcontrabass (tubax) is the biggest

  • its the most common?! really?! :O

im one of only 5 people who have ever played bari sax at my school! theres been more than 25 alto players, and 18 tenors! :O

  • Comment removed

  • i play alto :D

  • shut up noob!

  • i play the tenor

  • yes because the band teacher is making me play on

  • soprillo sopronino

  • i play the bari sax in band.. x_x

  • Here is the order higher to lowest. Bb Soprillo, Eb Sopranino, Bb soprano, Eb Alto, Bb tenor, Eb Baritone, Bb bass, Eb contrabass (Eb Tubax is another name), and Bb Tubax.

  • gahhhh i loveee the berrie sax!!! i play alto and berrie sax and my friend plays the tenner sax :)

  • what kind of bariton sax do you play on Mr. Erickson? a bushuer??

    i play on a P.Mauriot PMB 301

  • I have an alto it is a Conn 20M

  • The bari is not the "lowest" either!

  • but he is talking about common ones

  • the lowest is the Bb Tubax

  • The saprano is not the "highest" saxophone!

  • the one that almost looks like an alto

  • ha ha he should have shown a curved soprano

  • u forgot carrytone

  • my little brother used to play alto sax and now he plays tenor

  • oh, also.... would it be okay, since i own my alto...that I not breing my baritone home, and practice on the alto? Or is that completley different? Cuz i need practice, but i am NOT bringing that thing onto my bus!! I did once, but I almost killed someone!! And it almost fell on me.....

  • I often bring home an alto sax to practice. Fingering and notes are the EXACTLY the same. the only difference is the feeling on the mouth peice in your mouth. if you have no problem switching then practise at home on an alto

  • Yeah, i noticed that. The mouth piece of an alto is tiny compared to the barrie sax......

  • every sax player nos that but its not just the fingerings that make u a better soprano/alto/tenor/bari/bass/contrabass/ player

  • I play bari and practace makes perfect i have practiced my skill up to play as loud and acurate as the entire Marching band and i can play as soft as a pillow hitting a floor I can also play alto and tenor but they dont give me the rush that a bari does peace out!

  • its really different with ur mouth position, most players who do that can not get that deep sound on there bari b/c they play too much on there alto, and end up sounding like a tenor...i play tenor and bari(mostly) ur better off like practicing with ur bari after school so u get that feel

  • thanks.

  • I played alto sax for a year, last year in my school band. Then, my band teacher this year mentioned playing baritone sax. My hand shot up in the air immediatly. I love my baritone. IT IS HUGE!!!

Do you have any tips on how not to brake your neck? I really need it, cuz i am in sports 4 days a week, and my neck hurts REALLY BAD!!!!

  • Hey, yea get a harnes.. NEVER use the straight neck strap. use a strap that goes ovver your shoulders, around the side of your rib area and comes together to attach to the sax. no neck pain. Evenly distributed weight throughout the shoulders and strong back muscels

  • thank you!! that probally would help a lot!!

  • same thing with me 2 years ago

but ill say this, playing bari sax is the best thing that has ever happend to me

  • I have the Alto sax its pretty cool

  • fuckin retard she plays a tenor u god damn turd

  • actually it depends on the episode. Sometimes it shows her with a sax that is similar to alto. then sometimes its bigger. like the tenor. sometimes it has the curved neck like the bari. Tough call

  • dude... you should have stated the COMMON family at the beginning... the highest is soprillo i think and the lowest is the contrabass... and btw, that bari is crap. no low Bb key or low A... the other saxophones were pretty nice though.

  • that bari sax is prety good compared to the saxes i have played

  • I've been playing saxes for 33 years... God, 33 years ! My take on low A baris is that having a low A is not worth it - early low Bb saxes sound far better than "modern" baris: the extra length of the bell to get the low A severely compromises the tone.
