The reporter was wrong. She said that the denier determines how durable it is, but that isn't true. You can get ultra sheer hosiery at 70 denier, and thick opaques at 20 denier.

The reason is because of how it's put together.

Fibres are measured in denier, and they are put together to make yarns. Yarns are knit together to make fabric.

To make ultra sheer hosiery, you could take thick fibres, and make yarns. Then you'd knit the yarns loosely and sparsely, and then you'd get an ultra sheer fabric.
