NOTE TO ALL TOURISTS... Minnesota's business people are the biggest thieves and liars in the world. It is also a shit hole, nothing there to see. Save your money and go somewhere else worth visiting.
Try living in Minnesota for a couple of years.... People in Minnesota are fucking assholes!!!! "Minnesota good-bye Takes 45 minutes"
That's a joke... When in reality most Minnesotans are incapable of carrying a conversation and are a bunch of lifeless fucktards with no personality or a sense of humor.
"Minnesota Nice" is a big crock of horse shit. It's more like a marketing ploy for tourists to come and spend money...Minnesota nice is really to smile in someone's face, then talk shit behind their back and try to screw them over!!!
My friends and I live in central Minnesota, about 50 miles north of the cities, and we took a trip to Northern Minnesota to Isabella (near Ely, I believe). Anyways, we got lost in the woods up there while hiking in December, we found a road after a couple hours, and the first car we saw (which was about an hour after we found the road) the woman stopped, had her husband come to pick us up since she didn't have enough room. And that's the beauty of it all: you can trust people in Minnesota.
Minnesotans have manners and are polite, you may label this "nice". A smile and eye contact can go a long way in how others perceive you. Also, the people of Minnesota have one of the highest rates of volunteering.
For those people who say Minnesotans are not nice, take note that many people living in the Twin Cities (St. Paul/Minneapolis) are "transplants" from other areas of the USA (MN nice doesn't rub off onto these people).
I want to visit northern Minnesota some day, and also upper peninsula Michigan.
It's sad that in Europe, and probably all around the world, Americans are viewed as those idiot yank or redneck politicians. Sometimes it would be good to think of the different states as different countries, like in Europe. Or even, maybe the US should be split into different countries, would make the world a happier place.
I've lived in MN since I was six years old. What they don't tell you is that, first of all, there are plenty of people all across the state who talk like dat, and second of all, in exchange for non-confrontational behavior, you get a whole culture of people who can never seem to get to the point. Sure, a smile on the face, a friendly wave, but inside that Minnesotan skull, busy busy busy. Judging away your every feature, comparing it to blue-eyed Jesus.
@pbmdh im nto nice to that bitch. and she wants to run for president. and i am usually very nice. example of Minnesota Nice, someone hit our car. i had a concussion. someone living right next to where we crashed gave us a ride to the hospital. thats Minnesota Nice.
I've lived in a smallish town for most my life and I think that Minnesota nice is a real thing. Especially a lot farther up north. In general people who live down in the cities tend to be less outwardly nice. Also I think that people need to lighten up about the accent. A lot of people have a Minnesotan accent, it just seems to be a bit of a sliding scale. Vowels obviously tend to be the big thing that lets people notice the accent. All in all I love Minnesota.
yes, Fargo IS in North Dakota but the movie Fargo takes place almost completely in Minnesota. A lot of us do have accents but not nearly as thick as in the movie Fargo.
@ellnorth Do you live up here? The Minnesota nice is defiantly made up, its to superficial and political. I wish people would just be themselves and be genuine.
What a wonderful insight. I'm a student at the University of Norhtern Colroado with a childhood based in Minnesota. I, too, am writing a paper based on this topic. It's great to see a video representation.
Hey, they had Fargo on tonight on Bravo. Had never seen it all these years. As usual, I had to go to Wiki to know more and that's when I found out about "Minn. nice". I thought your docum was excellent, esp Dr Kit Christensen's comments. I enjoyed it more than the movie. I can related to some of the folks getting 'offended" & such...H'wood has a nasty habit of exaggeration..... all the NJ folks are mobsters, all southerners become hicks, etc. Once again, good job guys!!!!
Sometimes you literally do have to say no thank you at least 5 times x) But I know they’re just being nice, and making sure everyone has happy stomachs.
As a visiting Englishman I have spent 5 weeks in New York, loved it and met nice, friendly people.
However, having been to Minnesota (and only a few weeks away from my second of many trips there) I have to say that 'Minnesota Nice' DOES exist. What a warm and welcoming people.
I have yet to see Fargo but it looks like a fun film. I don't think any film should be taken too seriously so do not get too upset all you Minnesotans.
I met these guys when they were filming the final clip where he's talking in the field. For months I waited to see just what it was they were coming up with. Now I know. Thanks to the guy in the BSU film editing studio for helping me out.
Hahahaha Robert. I was just hanging out with him the other day, he's from my hometown. I was just surfing youtube, and when he popped up I was like 'ooo, I like this guys outfit!' Than he started talking and I lost it laughing - cause I recognized Rob and stumbled across him on here by accident.
I just don't know why we're so nice here in MN. And it IS true that we're just nice to APPEAR nice but inwardly we're just itching to draw some blood. It's like "Here's Some Food, now either entertain me or GTFO!" Maybe thats just me but it seems that it's that way here. Man I love this place!
haha i am gonna have to say..i am on my friends name but i am gonna say...this is awsome! im from wisconsin and when i walked to mcdonalds during bemidji's snowstorm when we got like 4 feet of snow. i got asked by eveyone if i needed a ride cuz i was walking to mcdonalds from campus. it was a sign of minnesota nice.

Who would you rather have as a neighbor--Marge Gunderson (Minnesota), Red & Kitty Foreman (Wisconsin), or Al & Peg Bundy (Illinois)?
I rest my case. Being "nice" is a good thing.
