  • i can't show you dis my screen shut up!

  • whats the difference between an editable mesh and an editable poly?

  • @jwmtanner1 They're very similar, an editable mesh divides the object into triangles (Try it! in 3Ds max and you'll see triangles if you select faces) Whereas the editable polygons option divides it into square/rectangle/4-sided shapes. For gaming models they usually render models using triangles but some of the more fancy stuff in 3D modeling is done using the 4-sided ones.

  • wow already 14 ?

  • can anyone help me?

when i edit the segments of an object the lines that sepirate the object into cells don't appear, how can i fix this?

    thx

  • graet

  • please get a better screen recorder 'I cannot right click because of my screen recorder' sucks. You can try camtasia studio i used it for one of my recordings

  • "I got to put this on my resume" hahaha

  • if your trying to make a face, id start with a box... this is horrible

  • @wildboy789789 That is another method but personally I've found a sphere is a great start with the poles where the ears are. My magic numbers are 12 Longitudinal sides and 8 latitudinal segments respective to the poles.

  • @Jlowe258 whatever floats ur boat i guess... its alot easier to star with a box and 2 perspective views of a face, then just add polygons and sculpt... a shere has no definition, i usually make a nose and ears then attach it to my face... trying to pull ears and a nose out of a sphere is just plain retarded... id like to see a video of useing a sphere to make a face, because i think its pretty close to impossible

  • @wildboy789789 'Search Human Head Modeling [HD] for proof of concept.Japanese description. I didn't follow it step by step because that would be a nightmare with the 'timelapse' like method used to make the video but onces I knew its was possible I tried over and over till I got my time under 2 hours. I can show you a character I used the method on. I'm not saying box isn't another way to start as well as spline cage with patches, it just matters on the final product which would take less work.

  • Dude you Rock! Thanks so much for these Tutorials. for years I've been using Maya and wanted to learn Max but the "learning curve" was daunting. You've made this fun and very easy to understand. Anyway Thanks again.

  • dude i need help. I can create stuff on here but i cannot figure out how to use it in footage that i shot. help?

  • I really liked this video! I am a computer teacher and I am trying to learn this software and have viewed many videos and tutorials but this by far was one of the best! I would love to be able to use your videos in my classroom and hopefully be able to view more of your tutorials in the future!

  • call him Jack for short. Make a jack-o-lantern video game object of the game is to see how far jack can fly with out being smashed by other objects. :)

  • THANK YOU!!! I have been wondering how to do something like that for a while now and, you sir, have just helped me out BIG TIME! I like your tutorials and they help me out as a "noob" to 3DS max design. :D

  • I have to say you saved me from going nuts in 3dsmax, im used to CAD programs and not 3d modelling like this. and on another subject, if you sell that head to crytek it ought to be featured in crysis 3 with that awesome level of detail :D.

  • Many many thanks for your work, man! You're a talented teacher and this tutorial is better and clearer than many professional courses.

  • how can i create more editable points on a object to edit it more precisely?

    and nice tuts btw :D

  • Your tutorials are GREAT!! =D

where did you learn all this stuff??

    tnx

  • Once again I have learned so much inn such a short time. I like when show how to modify an object you throw in details of terms, yet you keep it simple with beginning terminologies that I can comprehend. Mahal once again

  • Your tutorials are brilliant, every other one just seems to leave me in the dust.

  • I like how you say "Sup, guys?" in the beginning of every video =)

  • 4:07 only the ones porning towards you xD

  • I have a question...how do you subdivide/segment an editable poly? Like the tessellation tool, except only in certain directions?

  • Amazing bro!

  • at 2:04 usaid poly instead of vertex

  • I'd tap that

  • we made a dude, thx :)

  • best teacher ever

  • i know this might sound stupid..but how do you bring up that menu thing on the right side?

  • @DragonKnightDrazil It's set there by default, but if you mess up you can find it again by clicking Customize (top menu) > Show UI > Show command panel.

Kind of looks like the moon from Majora's Mask. xD

(sigh) How come you're not my teacher? I'd totally pay you for tutoring, yet you're giving away your teaching on youtube for free. You are awesome sauce, dude.

  • OK, quick question, when should i work with editable poly and editable mesh?

  • great tutorials. can you please make one about making movable joints, sockets or how to use the biped for animating? ive made this robot but have no idea how to animate it. would really appreciate it.

  • loooooool

  • hey thanks, do you know how to import a picture of a gun for exemple and then you can just create the gun by placing forms on the picture. I'd like to be able to rotate the picture not like a background

  • Nice Work !!! Thanks

  • @xld3000 Notice how you say "2010". This was made in August 18, 2009. Please think before you speak.

  • *Facepalm* both of you fail.

  • @IExiify Notice how this tutorial is in 3ds max 2010 version, so please think before you speak.

  • @yzbi Sorry I'm not jesus.

  • and 3ds max 2010 came out in april of 2009, maybe you should think before you speak, asshole.

  • @xld3000 Sorry I didn't know jesus.

  • hmm i dont get the dots around the ball =/.. at least i can't see them

  • i cant see the small dots around the ball, tho i can select them (without seen em), can anyone help?

  • are you enabling the vertex in modify?

  • This may be rude, but wouldn't it be smarter to add "Edit Poly" from the modifier list, so that in case you screw up when you have made an object with edit poly, add turbosmooth, and then add edit poly and make a mistake, then you can just delete the edit poly and you start where you left off. But that's probably just me being picky, but I find that safer.

  • @TheOddApple I didn't get it...:)

  • @TheOddApple Hey thats a great advice, hope bucky takes that tip in consideration, its just like adding an adjustment layer, very smart

Thanks for the tip Ps. do you do tuts?

  • the arrows for moving, rotating, scaling dissapear they just remain red lines how can i fix this?

  • O thank you sooo mush!

  • So what is the difference in using an editable mesh and an editable poly?

  • there's a big diffrence between editable mesh and editable poly, the main thing in mesh that every poly is consist of 2 triangles instead of 4 sided poly in editable poly, but in editable poly you can apply mesh smooth from the editable poly menus but when you're using editable mesh u cant..

check my website for tutorials from basic to advanced

    Blackartx.weebly(dot)com

  • hahaha bucky is the funniest person ever, not a laugh out loud like russell peters, but one that puts a huge smile on your face and makes you lol inside

  • Thanx for the tutorials! You make it actually interesting to learn, unlike the ones from autodesk...puts me to sleep.

  • i agree lol

  • download plz ?

  • @skud9999 I know i swear that thing is a freaking robot! its sooooooooooo boring to listen to

  • that was indeed a master piece lol

  • im just learning 3ds max in school and am having problems that even my instructor cant answer. does anyone know how to work on 2010 files in 3ds max 2008? i cant open them at school they have older version.

  • Ofcourse you cant... Cuz its not possible to make them from 2010 into 2008 files.

  • Actually I found if I save them as DAE files, they can be opened in 2008, the only problem is the lights have to be done over and do not transfer. Thanx for the reply.

  • Ohh.. Then i was wrong :D. Great job finding that out!

  • "so now we have this little dude ..."

    i like it ..

thank you so much for the great tuts .

  • thanks for the vid!

  • i have the full version 2010 and mudbox from torrents

  • Just for the record there is a 30 day free trial version that does everything the full version does. If you know what you are doing there is a totally legal way to keep getting it.

Seriously enough about the torrents, some countries you can get away with it others you can't enough and lets enjoy these great videos.

  • how? i have a student license but it expires. i'd love 2 know how to keep it free & legally.

  • awesome, keep em coming!

  • wow

    you are great ^^;

    keep going man ;)

  • downloading from a torrent is illegal you can pay more than $3000 if your caught ;)

  • okay everyone just shut up and stop arguing about buying it or downloading it for free!!!

btw thenewboston i love your tuturials keep going!!

  • u shud put that in ur resume for sure lol haha ....i love these tutorials ...

  • link for a torrent

  • n00b, sammanu. BUY IT.

  • n00b, JESUISAMERICAN. BUY IT.

  • Real n00bs spend 3,500 dollars on things when they get them for free :D

  • No. If everyone were to download it illegally, the companies would stop making software.

  • but not everyone downloads it illegally, so they continue to make software

  • No, but more and more people do. Please, just buy it. Trust me, if you really need it ( game development, etc), you'll just buy it and write it off.

  • $3000 is not an accessible price.

  • im not gonna trust someone who doesnt know what the hell theyre talking about, not everyone can afford 3500 dollars worth of software.

Im not going to download the torrent because idc too much about the software, but im just saying its an option

  • Can you afford the 5000$ fine then?

  • lol, its much more than 5,000, try 5 miliion

But the feds have more important things to do than trace people who do this, i havent done 3D max but i know people who have. The feds go after the source, the people who uploaded the torrent to the torrent site in the first place. Not the seeders

  • Many people have uploaded torrents and they arnt caught either.

  • i know, i know, but theres little-no chance that seeders will be caught, if anything, ithe LITTLE chance there is, the feds would go after the uploaders

  • the way you talk about it makes it sound like a drug lol

  • I don't agree.

The ppl who download these kind of softwares via torrents are usually noobs. They think they can do fancy things within a day but soon figure out it's way above their skill/knowledge and give up. Then there's a very small group who keeps on learning and eventually make a living out of it. Once that happens they will buy the software.

    Bottom line: It's a win-win situation.
