  • Would you say "Drive" is a remake of this movie?

  • top film. charlie varrick is cool as fuck. walter plays a great part.

  • Saw this yesterday and loved it!

  • I don't know why Matthau hated this film. It's one of his best.

  • Tarantino borrowed from the scene between John Vernon and the bank manager. (blowtorch and a pair of pliers.)

  • This could be remade into a new blockbuster. Great story!

  • @FELLNORM It came out on DVD here in the States a few years back as a bare-bones full-frame release. Pretty disappointing.

  • @brujaria

I agree...I have the DVD but man, it doesn't have much to boast about...Matthau himself would have been disappointed on how unflattering the DVD release of this great movie is

  • @brujaria just watched it last night on uk telly , brilliant film!!! he's a lovelable crook isnt he? however was spoiled by the sign language guy at bottom of screen , but still a great film. so thanx for your trailer as i watched it based on this trailer when i seen it advertised. cheers

  • The movie title is "Charley Varrick", not "Charlie Varrick".

  • Wow @ 0m37s The (long gone) Riverside Casino (off of Virgina Street on the river's south-side in Reno, Nevada). Their keno game was an easy data hack -- made several grand there before they caught on -- lol.

  • Watched it on TV a few weeks ago, loved it. Gotta get it on DVD.

  • Picked up a dvd at the library will be watching it tomorrow night. Looks like fun...!

  • Un très bon scenario.

  • Classic film ... A favourite of Tarantino, actually and you can tell he was GREATLY impressed and influenced by the Baker-Robinson Trailer Park torture scene in it !

(EX : Torture scene between Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken in the Tarantino-scripted TRUE ROMANCE also occurs in a Trailer !!)

  • Don't mention that name here.

  • What make and model car is that chasing his prop at the end?

  • Best bank robbery scene ever.

The piano music seals the deal.

  • A classic film indeed

  • Great film! Saw it on Turner Classic Movies, and id sure like a deluxe DVD of it!

  • good trailer!

  • This is a great and vastly underrated film. Matthau plays it oustandingly and Andy Robinson ( Dirty Harry) and Joe Don Baker are terrific also. The late and right-on Don Siegel, also directed Dirty Harry, does a wonderful job in this top--notch caper film. I agree with the other guy who said it should be available in Widecreen. A must-see!!

  • Watergate-era 'western' thriller by Don Siegel, music by Lalo Shifrin; Matthau, JD Baker, Benson Fong, Norman Fell AND John Vernon? I'd watch this anytime on a crummy old Sony b&w TV just for old times sake. Thanks for posting.

  • Great little movie and story. Every time it appears on TV I end up watching it. Matthau and his chewing gum, he is smooth and calculating small-time bank robber. It's addicting to watch.

  • I need to see this movie. Badly. Very badly.

  • Hi. It is on Retroplex channel this month.

  • Finally got a chance to see this movie and it blew me away - hands down one of the most solid crime/chase drama's I've ever seen...it was a lot more leftfield/unpredictable than I had anticipated...deserves proper dvd treatment without a doubt.

  • The ONLY reason i didnt buy the DVD was because of the BULLSHIT FULL FRAME TRANSFER !!Turner classic Movies has BROADCAST THE FILM IN LETTERBOX OR WIDESCREEN FORMAT Preserving the 2:35.1 aspect ratio AND THATS HOW I WANT TO VIEW IT !!!....WHEN WILL IT AIR AGAIN SO I CAN CAPTURE IT AND BURN MY OWN "REAL" VERSION ON DVD .

  • Actually, the movie was shot full-frame and matted for widescreen. You actually see *less* in the letterboxed version!

  • This film just goes to show that when you've got a great story and cast, you don't need to spend a fortune on production.Charley Varrick is one of my all-time favourite crime capers. I expect I'll die of old age before it's released on region 2 DVD.

  • What a great cast! Joe Don Bakers best film role.

  • Fuck the box office. It was a classic then and it's a classic today.

  • I agree with all the comments. This is the best movie that nobody has ever seen. I saw it with my dad and brother as a kid, and today, most people you talk to have never even heard of it.

  • Joe Don was dynamite in this, so was walter matthau!!

  • Great movie,I try to imitate Charlie's cool deamenor.

  • While I'm thankful it's released at all, Universal completely flubbed the DVD release. Zero extras, not even this trailer, full frame, and not even a menu! It just starts went you put in the disc!

  • I agree. I was really dissapointed by Universal's descision to dump the film on to a bare-bones, full-frame release. You'd think that a highly respected director like Seigel would warrant at least a widescreen transfer, if not extras.

  • Top ten in "Most Underrated Movies of all Time" I'd say. Who's with me?

  • Me.

  • I'm with you, too

  • this brilliant film was a flop, mainly to the fact of Walter Matthau bad mouthing it. It's scary that a brillant film like this can be a box office failure depending on whether it's vogue or not at the time.

  • The trailer park scenes were all filmed in Dayton, Nevada on Louie St., next to the Carson River. The bank

is in Genoa, NV, and other scenes were shot in Reno and

    Mustang, NV...

  • Mr. Matthau..great one.

  • I worked with Walter Matthau in a film called "the Grass Harp" , it was directed by his son Charles. He was a very nice and freindly person.Joe Don Baker also starred in the movie. He and I spent alot of time together on the set ( 1995 )

  • WOW! That's mighty impressive!

You must have met Jack Lemmon as well! (He and Walter are two old favorites of mine)

  • Sad to see so many great actors from this film not with us anymore. Long live the great Andy Robinson!!!

  • Brilliant! Thanks for posting.

  • RIP Walter Matthau, Norman Fell, John Vernon and Don Siegel

  • starring the awesome Andy Robinson ("Scorpio" from Dirty Harry)!

  • Filmed in the beautiful Carson Valley, Nevada

  • Great movie! Thanx for this.
