  • As a Brit living in the states for more than 4 years now i must say how astounded i am that neither the news media or the politicians ever speak of inflation. All it seems to be is tax, tax , tax as though there is some kind of fixation on tax. While the topic of tax is important it is no where as near a killer as inflation is. Unlike tax, inflation is totaly indiscriminate hitting both the old , young, rich and poor.

  • "Oh god."

  • I just love Tobey in this scene, clearly he is enjoying the tongue-lashing that Josh is getting but towards the end he realizes they have other things to worry about.

  • "No I did not. Let me be absolutely clear. I did not do that. except, yes, I did that."

  • This must be my favourite tv-show scene ever. It´s so damn hilarius.

  • I wonder if this is in Berry's list of YouTube favorites?

  • 4 People don't have a secret plan to fight inflation.

  • @an0gr0br Do I have to come up with one in order to "like" this?

  • *huge smile*

  • "No, I did not. Let me be absolutely clear, I DID NOT do that. Except, yes, I did that." An amazingly written line, delivered with absolute perfection by Bradley Whitford. This scene is fucking phenomenal.

  • I wish you kept in Toby's response "As much as we love seeing you beat the..crap out of Josh, we actually have bigger fish to fry." LOL

  • "When you put it like that, Mr President..." Class! :')

  • 4 people like inflation.

  • I miss President Bartlet. And Josh - boy, do I miss Josh.

  • seems like legendary Harvward/Jale education failed in press briefing :D

  • Inflation's better than unemployment, 'nough said!

  • @gallstonethefirst An increase in inflation only provides a temporary boost to employment until people adjust to the new "normal" at which point employment returns to previous levels.

  • One of the best episodes of the series. Loved the Mendoza parts as well.

  • No, I did not. Let me be clear, I did *not* do that....except yes, I did that.

    I love Josh

  • I hate when people try to set me up Oprah!

  • "I'm tired, I'm cranky, and my wife's in Argentina. Let's get this over with."

  • Don't see the problem here. Plently of liberals support plans before they oppose them.

  • @BelieveIt1051 god, you're so clever (yawn)

  • Thanks. It's funny because it's true.

  • O.K, before we go on, CJ, if blood is gushing from the head wound you just received from a stampeding herd of bison, you'll do the press briefing. Classic WW

  • last line's my favorite...now you don't support it?

  • hillarious

  • which episode is this from?

  • It's from Season 1, episode 15: "Celestial Navigation"

  • no i did not, let me be clear i did not do that, expcet yes, i did that....lmao one of the many reasons why i LOVE this show haha

  • This is one of the better West Wing episodes, so well done from start to finish.

  • "Sir there was this idiotic round robin, it was sarcastic. There is no way they didn't know that. They were just mad at me for imposing discipline and calling them stupid." Josh's conviction for his actions even after admitting his error is both the brilliance and hilarity of this man.

  • "No, I did not. Let me absolutely clear-- I did not do that. Except...Yes, I did that."

    Josh x)

  • OK - before we go on - CJ, if you are gushing blood from the head would you received from a herd of stampeding buffalo, YOU will give the Press Briefing.....

  • @PeterFormaini that line was awesome!!!!

  • hard to tell whether President Bartlet is angry or close to laughter

  • "they were just mad at me for imposing discipline and calling them stupid"

i miss this show so much. it was so good.

  • After this, Sam mentions that Mendoza would take Interstate 95, but being from Southern California, he should have said "the 95."

  • He probably picked up the pattern of east coast natives. I grew up in New England, but I call them "the 10," "the 405," etc. now that I'm living in LA.

  • Actually here on the east coast it's "95"...you left coasters need to convert

  • Only in SoCal. Everybody else thinks it's weird and sounds wrong. Clearly they're the crazy ones.

  • This cuts off before Toby's next line which is "Sir, as much as we'd all love to watch you beat the living hell out of Josh..."

  • Bartlet would have never said "by who?" He would have said, "By whom?"

  • Yeah, I've seen this so many times, I know most of the lines, and I still keep expecting the President to say "by whom".

  • I noticed that, too. The prez's perfect grammar would never have allowed him such a gaff.

  • he was clearly groggy and grumpy from his trip. i'm sure his grammar would much improve after that second cup of coffee.

  • That's probably it :-)

  • @juliamacadam He'd been woken up after about two hours of sleep and was confusing Charlie with his wife. I think the occasional grammar slip is excusable.;)

  • No, I did not. Let me be absolutely clear, I did not do that! Except, yes, I did that.

  • OMG, this made me laugh so hard, I have tears running down my face. I must did did out my WW DVDs and rewatch.

  • Hahaha, I love it!

  • "Are you telling me that not only did you invent a secret plan to fight inflation, but now you don't support it?"

  • @Prod1Kh "Mr. President, as much as we would all love to watch you beat the ever-living crap out of Josh, we actually have a bigger issue"/"What did Mendosa do?"

  • @japorche Followed by my favorite line when finding out that Mendoza will take three days to come in from Maine: "Is he coming in from Neptune?"

  • @Prod1Kh that comment of his had me in tears :D i love this show!!!

  • Oh my God, I miss this wonderful program!

  • Here's your shovel Josh, keep digging.

  • Cj couldn't brief

    Who did

    I did

Oh God....This show ruined TV for me, nothing comes anywere close to been as good.

  • So true. If all tv was like that, people would spend their lives in front of the tv [and see quality entertainment, let's differentiate between something of this level of quality and The Bold and The Beautiful].

  • @kkjimbo praise God!

  • @kkjimbo I know what you fuckin mean!!! It's soo damn annoying!!!

    On my 5th rerun now!

  • @kkjimbo you have to resist the impulse to compare The West Wing to anything...it's incomparable

  • true dat, best show there ever was. With an assortment of actors that really clicked.

  • @kkjimbo - so agree with you...

  • @kkjimbo

im hoping Aaron Sorkin's new show will have some of what made TWW so amazing...

Studio60 may have not been a masterpiece, but it did still have some hilarious writting behind it.

  • BAHAHAHAHAH!

I cry every time I see this one!

  • the whole bit with Josh saying, "I did not do that. let me be crystal clear, I did not say that. except...yes I did say that"

that's a brilliant performance, but it takes a genius to write that line. on paper it sort of makes no sense and isn't really funny, but Sorkin had faith that Whitford would nail it, and he did. just a perfect team.

  • This is my favorite episode!! Josh was hilarious and Sam/Toby were awesome driving to Conneticuit.

  • That's the thing with this episode isn't it? Let's see...

    "We gotta bwief th' pwesident."

"CJ I swear if you say the words 'pwesident' or 'bwiefed' one more time..."

    vs.

    "I'm using celestial navigation!"

    "TURN AROUND!"

Good thing both plots of this episode were equally hilarious -- each one was so brilliant that were the other one just average, it would've seemed glaringly bad in comparision, no matter how good "average" is for TWW.

  • I love Jed's "oh, God" when Josh said he did the briefing. He knew right away that Josh had done something stupid, he could see it coming. This scene is great!

  • This is my alltime favorite episode; I actually clipped the part where CJ first says "A secret plan to fight inflation!" right after the press briefing and made it my manager's alert tone on IM... she was a worthless manager who was always going around saying 'I have a plan...' and no one ever heard what that plan was. LOL

  • Looooooooove josh!!!!!!!!! he and donna are the cutest couple ever!!!!!!!!!!!

  • love this episode, sooo much!

  • Celestial Navigation is my favourite episode (one of many), i miss West Wing....

    *sigh

  • Oh man me too...although Season 1-4 is pretty much all my favorite episode lol...but Sam at the Wesley Police Station in that episode was so alpha haha

  • Gosh, how I miss this show!

  • WOOT CANAW!

  • so youre telling me that you not only invented a secret plan to fight inflation, but now you dont support it?

  • i liked this video :)

    this video was good kO

  • "Oh God"

    Hilarious!

  • "They were just mad at me for imposing discipline and calling them stupid!"

Josh is such a little kid. XD

  • 'i want to be absolutely clear, I did not do that.............. except yes, I may have done that'

    fantastic episode

  • qotta love Josh

  • "OK, before we go on: CJ, if blood is gushing from the head wound you just received from a stampeding herd of bison, you'll do the press briefing." Hee.

  • i love this show... =] never fails to make my day

  • Brilliant - Love the quietly uttered "Oh God" - reminds me of MASH - how both these shows could go from making you cry to making you laugh often in the one episode !

  • i now use the whole *dead silence* "...oh god" in everyday life

  • "Are you telling me that not only did you invent a secret plan to fight inflation but now you don't support it?" "When you put it like that Mr. President..." I would have loved to hear the remainder of that answer and Bartlet's rejoinder.

  • Toby jumped in and told the president that as much as they would enjoyed watching be the crap out of Josh, that they had bigger fish to fry with Roberto Mendoza.

  • ***sorry about typos. Toby said that as much as they enjoy watching the president beat the living crap out of Josh, they had a bigger fish to fry.

  • Again I have to ask. Was it an unwritten clause in Josh's job description that he had to drive CJ totally insane whenever an opportunity arose?

  • Which was followed up with "What did Mendoza do?"

The end of the scene has Josh saying "If anyone asks you quit smoking years ago and the cigarette you bummed on Air Force One was for a friend"

    "Get. Out."

By a fair margin the funniest West Wing episode ever.

  • LOL!! Yes it was. This clip made me go out and buy Season 1 on DVD.

  • the secret palny to fight inflation just never gets old!

  • oh wow... this is hilarious!

  • "no I did not. let me be absolutely clear. I did not do that, except yes I did that." "they were just mad at me for imposing discipline and calling them stupid." :o)

  • "Oh God."

That is why I love Jed Bartlet.

  • so funny!

  • Oh Josh!!!

    Thanks for posting!
