Spot on about using the technology. There is a whole world full of stories that you will miss if can't read or log on. And the bit about learning more than your native language applies to a lot of careers besides story telling. My timer in the military was much more enjoyable because I knew German and a bit of Korean. Even my feeble attempts at learning Arabic made my stay in Libya far more enjoyable. People are so much more interesting when you have some idea what they are talking about.
