I'm playing Juror #8 from 12 Angry Men in my college production this spring. Been watching this guy obsessively. It drives me nuts that I'll never be that good.
I don't know why they would not let them talk through the host to conceal their voices. I've been watching this show for an hour now(and longer before) and usually they figure out the guest in like 2 minutes just based on the voice itself. I mean you got stars like Henry Fonda here and others, and this part of the show lasts about 2 minutes. What a total waste of entertainment potential. I still love the show though, i just wish they had been a bit smarter about this back then.
@fdsfjsdfjjl i have to admit i felt the same way. but then i watched one clip that had eve arden, in which she used a small sort of bike horn, and would honk one for yes and two for no, and they still got her within a couple of minutes. another time it was charlton heston, and they got him in three minutes, without him disguising his voice. i really think it's the questions they ask that does the celeb in, not the voice. but in any case, still fun to watch.
@serpentisma Yea it's a lot of fun nonetheless and i guess if it wasn't a 2 min. thing, they would have had a harder time getting the celebrities in, since they are probably paid very little or nothing at all, so....i guess they had their reasons.
Agreed. That is well documented. Also, he was married five times, so he couldn't have much of a husband either. If he can't be nice to his family, the rest is irrelevant, in my opinion.
Blessed enough to see him with Celeste Holm at the Beverly Wilshire in "The Oldest Living Graduate" before he left us. One of the finest talents we had who had a lot of BS in his family to deal with. What fun me and my big brother used to have quoting 'Mr. Roberts' by heart ver batim... Tks, Hank.
Fonda appeared four times as mystery guest; this is from September 13, 1964.
Fonda never allowed himself to be typecast; he appeared in a wide variety of roles during his career. His accomplishments are legnedary and too numerous to list there. He is one of my favorite actors: one that I make a point to see whenever one of his movies appears on television.
Gregory Peck, James Stewart, Gary Cooper, John Wayne, James Cagney, Bogart, Henry Fonda... and other Classic actors are brilliant and evergreen. you can't campare these classic actors with new trash actors. In new movies there are only movie effects + garbadge.
@ciroalb3 Some comment, you can't fathom that it wasn't his voice that tipped them off, it was the questions narrowing things down. Are all your comments this clueless, or were you just feeling particularly asinine on this one day, you likely ignorant youth.
Henry was a nominee for Sec of State in Advise and Consent but withdrew his nomination. He was trying to get nominated for President in The Best Man but withdrew. He was the President in Fail Safe. How did he get these jobs without anyone's permission?
It is so difficult to try to describe the high opinion the public had of people like Fonda, Cagney, or Stewart at that time. Nothing comparabel today.
I was there the statement is true - Nothing compares to the level of dignity & integrity of the performers & the level of honest sincere & deep cherished adolation from the general public- today it is all flash & Glam- here today gone in 5 minutes- cheap trick promotions - then it was a respectable honor to wear a clean suit in public - now it is sloppy drunken playing in the sandbox-
For those who have never seen Fonda in movies, "Advise and Consent," "The Best Man," or "Fail Safe", still remain good places to start.
Concerning Fonda's comment about going back to Broadway ( 3:04 ): watch TheSpindle's "What's My Line June 12, 1966" on YouTube with mystery guests Henry and Peter Fonda when Henry did star in a Broadway play. He found something called "Generations."
from this it seems like the family was very happy, but from Jane's book that really wasn't the way it was. Henry was absolutely charming and very nice here. But with his family she writes he was moody and difficult. maybe he was happier when involved with his worked. i liked him very much here and he was nice looking as well as good actor.
Jane was quoted as saying that when she saw the Off-Broadway stage play "On Golden Pond", she rushed to buy the movie rights because the father-daughter relationship in the script was exactly like the relationship she had with her father.
Gil Fates used to go on-and-on about syndicated WML moderator Larry Blyden's interviewing skills, but this clip illustrates the quality of John Daly interview skills as well.

Fonda: "Everybody's a chief, I want to be an Indian". HA
I think that shows some humility on his part.
In my own personal life (I know who cares) I always say: I prefer to be the lieutenant NOT the captain. I mean it too.
